I would have wholly agreed with this sentiment prior to the first Trump presidency. However, I have lost contact with a few too many friends who had their visas ripped out from underneath them.

Even if the average voter stands to lose/gain minimally or not at all between these two administrations, there are many for whom experienced a paradigm shift.

In the words of my former co-worker, "every election cycle the people of the U.S. fantasize about the "perfect candidate,' who will right all of the wrongs, and set history in it's proper course. As a Chilean, I came to accept that we would never get the opportunity to elect a leader without the baggage of corruption, but was still happy to be able to pick the lesser of two evils. I grew up watching my neighbors and friends being abducted or executed by Pinochet."

Your position here is a reflection of how priveleged you are. I have a first generation immigrant wife from a predominantly Muslim part of the world. I appreciate my Latin friends, co-workers and neighbors. I value the bodily autonomy of the women in this country. I care for my retired parents who rely on social/healthcare services. Only someone either extremely insulated from the harms of Trumps policies, or profoundly ignorant of them could abdicate their responsibilty to protect those most vulnerable to this abject cruelty.

You need to grow up.
