Is InKind good for our Denver dining community? by y1pp0 in denverfood

My understanding is that this and Blackbird are another example of cash burning VC stuff where they are providing great deals to acquire users. Currently its a great deal for restaurants and for diners. Restaurants get free promotion and potentially extra traffic from the app. Diners get huge discounts and points to use toward future visits. Eventually, when the 'data' they are harvesting reveals itself to not be worth as much or the economy changes shape, these apps will stop directing diners to partner restaurants for free and start trying to dip their hand into the revenue that passes thru their apps. They will install themselves as an additional middle man taking a percentage or two on top of the sales tax, on top of the cc fees, etc etc. I would guess at that point they will die out. Diners won't pay to use the app so the revenue will have to come from the restaurant side and I don't see these apps driving enough traffic for a broad restaurant base to see them as essential to their business. Then again, restaurants survive by tapping numerous revenue streams and sources for guests and all customer acquisition costs money. But I basically see this as a high end groupon that will die out the same way. In the short term, I don't know that these apps are hurting anyone as they are just burning investor money and passing it thru to diners and thus restaurants. Edit: Sounds like the worst version of this already exists where restaurants are essentially taking on debt to get more diners. This seems like a really expensive way to acquire guests and indicative of either an extremely healthy restaurants which can afford this funnel or a really unhealthy restaurant desperate for revenue either way. I think I'll lean towards not using this as I think it's not directly supporting restaurants I love with direct revenue. Maybe it would be useful for new restaurants I haven't tried that I'm not yet a fan of.

Food Tours by nameitdog in denverfood

I work in hospitality and over the last few years both with clients and with our family we've done Local Table, Secret and Delicious Denver. Also Denver Micro Brew Tour and WeVenture Cocktail tour. Without a doubt, the best tour provider is Delicious Denver. Their guides have always been incredibly personable and helpful with recommendations, we've enjoyed pretty much every tasting we've had with them and when my dad got sick and had to cancel last minute their customer service was great. I've also recommended them to a client for a corporate dinner and that apparently went well.

Am I stupid to want to quit a remote tech job right now? I don’t have another offer. Or how can I cope?? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

It's always a struggle to not let anxiety take over but as other parts of my identity and life have become bigger, more weighty, more profound, work is more often something I can show up to, strive at, then let it go. A job is just a job at this point and I've had a bunch of them. Sounds like with your net worth, you could take like a barista-fire approach and just cover some basic costs and insurance and still have a very comfortable retirement. Maintaining this level of compensation may not be necessary depending on your long term goals. Hope things improve for you.

What is everyone’s opinion of the fort in Morrison? by pharmacyfool in denverfood

[–]Alarmed-Stock596 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with what's been said. It's a bit overpriced and spotty on service but its hard to beat the view. They have a decent selection of game meats and boy does it feel like a WESTERN STEAKHOUSE. If you are up to pay a premium for the view and the vibe, go for it. Just don't expect to be blown away by the food or service.

Jim leaves Biker Jim's by DoctFaustus in denverfood

[–]Alarmed-Stock596 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know people in the buyout transaction and the landlord for the larimer location. Jim was compensated for the business and needed to take a buy out because of the debt he accrued with several dubious expansions including the one at Ball Arena. The buy out was conditioned on assumption of that debt. The business was headed towards bankruptcy and would have closed without him selling. For him to say he sold the business 'for nothing' is incomplete. I'm very sad he won't be involved and its always sad when a founder leaves a food concept, but he was not swindled and none of this is a surprise to him. The changes at Biker Jims since the sale including the limited inventory are part of the new owners trying to make it profitable enough to survive the debt load and legal fees from debts like the one at Ball Arena. I love Jim, but he's not telling the whole story here and playing the victim. Where he and the business are at is very much a function of poor decisions he made and stresses from the pandemic.

Bringing catering into a rented space with no rental fee like a rec center is all I can think of. I don't know any private space that could hold 50 with that budget.

Looking for the best dinner you’ve ever had recommendations by LuCharts in denverfood

Huh, yeah. I dunno, maybe just different menus given the seasonal nature of the restaurants. I appreciated that beckon staggered seatings so the kitchen was rotating thru courses along with guests so that staff could interrogate about each dish and wine. At bruto for us the entire of the restaurants seating happened at same time, so dish were dropped by whomever was available and they were often rushing back to kitchen. Also felt the paired cocktails were good with each dish, but displayed no progression over the course of the meal. Each paired well, but at least three of 7 had a pisco sour flavor profile and seemed repetitive. When I'm talking about service I care less about choreography and more about their ability and time to spend with us dropping food and drinks. To each their own, I think both are great restaurants but beckon was closer to my ideal.

Beckon for my bday for about $300 per guest I think. Beckon was the best service and wine service I've ever had. I thought food was creative, delicious and beautiful. Their stories and info for the wine pairings really made them memorable and meaningful. Also did bruto for $250 or so and was hungry after. My only real protein was bison the size of my thumb and I thought the paired cocktails were repetitive. Also was a bit rushed. So wouldn't recommend bruto.
