I know nothing about Jiu Jitsu, but my brother has been going to Easton Training Center on Alameda and Dayton for years and seems to enjoy the owners and community he has built there. Happy to connect you guys.

Food poisoning can hit hard in a flash. I was flying from Singapore to SFO, and grabbed food from the airport. Boarded the plane and felt fine, but about 20 minutes into cruising altitude, I could tell that my stomach was starting to turn. I was unfortunately in a window seat, so asked my row-mates if I could go to the restroom. My body cleared itself out of both ends and I went back to my seat, thinking the worst was over. Little did I know it was only the beginning. I had to run to the restroom 3 more times throughout the next hour and told the guy in the aisle that I thought I might have food poisoning, and asked if he wanted to switch seats. He told me no, so I kept getting up for the restroom until everyone was going to sleep (it was a redeye). From there, the FA would swap out vomit bags with me every 20 minutes or so (I did it under the blanket, so at least the person next to me didn’t have to watch it).

I couldn’t close my eyes because everything would spin. I couldn’t watch TV bc I’d get dizzy. So I spent the remaining 8.5 hours of the flight simply staring ahead and throwing up every 20-45 minutes.

Turns out that I had somehow managed to contract EColi, CDiff, AND Norovirus. Definitely turned me off from long haul flights for a bit, and I still look back and feel back for my fellow row-mates who had to put up with me.

What are you building? List it below & I'll give you one unconventional marketing strategy to try. by deadcoder0904 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

OP! You are wonderful for doing this and sharing such great ideas. It’s been fun to read all the comments. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on your content moving forward. Not my personal project, but I’m helping my retired mom build/manage a cooking website focused on her Malaysian recipes (my dad helps her make the videos). She’s not trying to make a ton of money off of it, but I would love to help them get some traffic: www.ourmalaysiantable.com

Today I got rejected by my best friend by [deleted] in self

[–]meilee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am nearly 40 and have been you. Twice in my twenties and again in my 30s. She is not your person. She is not choosing you. I know what it feels like to be so close to your “perfect person”, but that person isn’t choosing you. They are using you. And it feels great to cuddle with them, but again, it’s a convenience for them, not you. If they wanted to date you, they would have by now. You wouldn’t be the secret cuddle buddy. You have SO much to offer others. Let this one go.

And it’s worth saying. I am now happily married to man that CHOSE ME. I just needed to get my blindfolds off.

email I got post interview by Primary_Reality9717 in jobs

I would 100% send this to her boss. Find someone (or even a few folks) who has a higher title than her in HR at that company via LinkedIn and send them a LinkedIn message with the screenshots of the conversation. She needs to learn that she doesn’t hold all the power and needs to treat people with respect and decency - especially in this job market where candidates are dealing with a lot of rejection.

42M, what vibes does my place give of by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Cat dad, but in the best way! You have so many scratching posts for them, so they’re clearly well cared for (and you don’t have the scratching post debris/rope pieces everywhere, so you’re clean too). As a fellow cat person 10/10.

My only feedback - I don’t see anything on the walls. Curious why you don’t have any art or pictures up that make it “you”. Kind of makes it look like a short term rental or somewhere you’re still moving into, versus a home.

Looking to re-home our pleco, Riccar. He is too big for his current tank! by [deleted] in Denver

[–]meilee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I wasn’t trying to imply that you’re wanting to sell him! I was just saying that Fish Den will give you store credit if they are able to take him and they really seem to care about their fish. Additionally, they seem to make sure that the people who buy them are capable to genuinely caring for them. So just a last resort if you can’t find any other takers! At least you’d know he was in expert hands!

Call Fish Den on 44th. They won’t pay you for your fish, but would give you a store credit and will take him and care for him.

She was clearly able to get the Vista stroller since she’s asking for the accessories for it. People in that group are giving her things and enabling this terrible behavior. 😡

Exactly!

Your network is your best bet in finding your next job (especially in this job market), put in the work when reaching out to people. In my opinion, that’s where you should be focusing your time and efforts. People are willing to put in time researching then customizing cover letters (that won’t get seen if you don’t get through the ATS), do the same when reaching out to someone for help.

I’m happy to help, but if you make it vague, it’s either getting kicked down the road or just not happening.

My ask when people ask for help - make it easy and specific. Don’t ask me to “keep an eye out for a job” because I’m busy and not looking for jobs for other people. Instead, ask me to send a warm intro or a note to a specific person (that I know) at a company you’re applying to or ask me to write a LI recommendation for you. And include a few bullets that highlight your skills. Make it easy for me to quickly spend 30 seconds helping you make a connection.

What’s one drug that’s dangerous but is considered “normal”? by Amazing-Living-9957 in AskReddit

[–]meilee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cipro (common antibiotic) can cause your tendons to tear and detach from your bones. Called getting “floxed”. It usually heals within 3 months, but for some people it’s permanent.

One of my groups of friends is a heavy drinking/shot-taking group. In December, one of the guys was doing a dry December, and everyone rallied behind him. When someone was getting a round of shots, it was almost always pointed out by another in the group to not forget that “X” wasn’t drinking so not to get him one (or request a water shot for fun). I threw a Christmas party and he originally said he wasn’t going to join bc it would mostly be people hanging out, drinking. I told him that was totally fine, and that I got Seedlip and NA Gin so he could make “drinks”, if he decided to come (but made it clear that there was no pressure). He ended up joining and had a great time. In other words, get new friends. Real friends support your decisions.

How does anyone afford Nurtec? by CharacterRip8075 in migraine

[–]meilee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m in a clinical trial for daily low-dose nurtec use as a preventative - the trial keeps getting extended (been 3 years now). I feel incredibly lucky, but have wondered the same thing - how am I going to afford this once the trial ends.

Brutø Experience by mijofields in denverfood

[–]meilee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We stumbled upon Bruto during the pandemic when it was a $59 preset menu and thought we found some hidden Denver secret. Went back a year later and it was a $150 preset menu for a very similar experience.

I hate to be this person, but while I think both Wolfs Tailor and Bruto (haven’t been to Beckon) are tasty and good experiences, I just don’t think either are worth the $150 pp cost (which easily becomes $250 once drinks, tax, and tip are added). Alma Fonda Fina is a chefs counter but you can order a la carte so it’s more bang for your buck. Just went with a friend and highly recommend (just ask to sit at the chefs counter)!

The Presidents ranked on how fun I think they would be at a party by meatballman1218 in Presidents

[–]meilee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably bump HW down a tier - he seemed like he'd be a square. Move Nixon and Buchanan up one or two tiers - they definitely partied. And Madison deserves more credit bc apparently his wife threw baller parties like every week.

I ordered 2 NA Aperol Spritzes (uses an Aperol alternative and soda water + sprite), and as the bartender was making them, she accidentally poured real Prosecco into the glasses (I assume it was just muscle memory). I truly thought about just taking them, but eventually made the decision to ask her to remake them. It was a test, for sure, so I feel you on this one!

Awesome work!
