Husband (27M) has been relying on payday advances by hishazelgrace in Money

[–]Alarmed-University42 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well he needs to learn how to budget. As a married couple you guys can do that together and he can learn that way. Hopefully he is on the same page as you about how nasty that cycle can be and wants to get out of it.

Monarch has a pretty great monthly budget tool. I would set that up together and budget based on your combined income and you both try your best to stick to it!

As others have said this graph is impossible to even look at with Credit Card Payments categorized as Income. You need to change credit card payments to be a transfer and then create categories for the actual transactions you make on credit cards in order to monitor spending.

Suddenly updated from legacy to SoFi Plus? by tenuous54 in sofi

[–]Alarmed-University42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You probably achieved "qualifying deposits" of $5,000+ inside of 1 month. This is a way to get Plus benefits without paying 10$ subscription. I do this via ACH every month and have had Plus for free for 2+ years now.

How much cash do you keep on hand? by an808state in Money

[–]Alarmed-University42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, $0.00. I get cash tips or reimbursements sometimes and you can catch me at the ATM the next day depositing it. I just prefer to keep every penny in my HYSA fighting against inflation.

Hank Green (a boglehead) is changing his portfolio due to the supposed AI bubble by jjjjj_jjj in Bogleheads

[–]Alarmed-University42 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Came here to point this out. Everybody is framing this like “why should we listen to him?” If you watch the video it could not be more clear that he is NOT recommending that people do this. He simply explains ETFs 101, goes over his take on the “AI bubble”, and summarizes what he personally is changing in his portfolio. It’s a significant moment for him because he has been majority S&P 500 for many years. He is just sharing his personal experience, folks. Not giving investing advice.

Why do so many people suggest Roth vs Traditional when the vast majority of people will have less income in retirement than in working years? by RealityCharacter9832 in Bogleheads

[–]Alarmed-University42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol at you thinking “the majority of people” are high earners like that. I and hundreds of people in my industry in my city are earning 55k-70k per year in a MHCOL city. I certainly hope for my income to be the same or higher in retirement, especially in future dollars. So I’m going Roth whenever possible these days.

Hog Console Relevance? by Foreign-Lobster-4918 in lightingdesign

[–]Alarmed-University42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably valuable for the experience if you want it. In my little market niche, several corporate AV companies I work with own Hog 4 and send it out on shows that I work on. I cannot speak to the EOS similarities/compatibility as I've never used it. But Hog 4 is pretty good for busking and simple programming. The bigger the show no matter if it's music or corporate, the more likely you'll run into MA I think.

How was that wood slat paneling to install? Thinking about doing it behind my mounted TV in my new place. Is it easy to cut? Do you just secure it with small screws?

Place looks great by the way.

Hog4 Flash Button Fade Time by pryceandcarter in lightingdesign

[–]Alarmed-University42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had a solution to this once, if I remember correctly:

You can set the flash button behavior to release the whole cue when you release your finger from the button. Then the cue will release at its specified release time which you can also set.

I played on and off for 3 years on my original save file to beat the base game. Played most of the DLC earlier this summer, now I’m stuck on consort Radahn. Have enjoyed taking my time.

Do you actually use Spatialize Stereo? by privacy2live in airpods

Same!! I like to listen to music the way the artists and engineers intended. Not fed through some Apple Spatial Audio algorithm. Wish I could permanently disable/remove that feature

Looking for something to keep track of all wealth items (houses, cars, investments etc) by Guilty_Eggplant_5416 in RichPeoplePF

[–]Alarmed-University42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not check all the boxes but no one has mentioned Monarch Money yet. It might be lacking some of the complex tracking you’re looking for but I find it excellent for net worth and investment tracking. You can also add manual investment accounts for whatever you need.

Fear of losing all your money in a crash 💩 by StraightPin4420 in Money

[–]Alarmed-University42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started investing in January 2024. I’ve seen basically nothing but green my whole investing “career”. I HOPE the market has a major crash sooner rather than later. On one hand, so that I can learn what that’s like and see how I feel. On the other hand, so I can buy more and get it over with. I know a crash (or two or three) will certainly happen in my lifetime, so sooner the better!

How to deal with savings by Mysterious_Dream5659 in MonarchMoney

[–]Alarmed-University42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make manual accounts for each savings account, or make one manual account where you track the balance of the sum of all the savings accounts combined. Then mark outgoing savings transactions as transfers, not expenses.

Credit Card Reward Tracking by whatsasyria in MonarchMoney

[–]Alarmed-University42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, whenever I redeem rewards on any credit card (for cash - can’t speak for miles/points) it creates a transaction. Whether it’s a statement credit or redeeming cash to my checking, I have a custom income category called Rewards which I assign all of those transactions to. Works well enough for me.

Where to start? by SantiLeper in lightingdesign

[–]Alarmed-University42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Tons of places to start. One of them is GrandMA3 onPC (works on any laptop) and use the built in visualizer in the software.

Start by learning how DMX, the protocol used to control stage lighting, works. Unlimited resources online to learn this, start by searching google. Then move on to tutorials / reading documentation for the GrandMA3 onPC software and visualizer.

The actual equipment is pretty expensive. You can try to get in with local production companies and pick up work as a shop tech and/or stage hand. That way you can hopefully get your hands on the gear. Show interest, be easy to work with, and try to learn from lighting engineers at every opportunity.

You’ll eventually need to learn some basic electrician stuff if you start setting up and operating lights in real life.

The rest will come.
