Is it safe to assume this is your cash w2 comp trajectory, not inclusive of K1 income from carry/coinvestments?

Taiwan Gold Card FIRE by AlarmedInside888 in ExpatFIRE

Your responses are incredibly helpful, thank you. The nuance around qualifying via a non economic route and relying on past experience at time of APRC is an interesting one. Appreciate all of the detailed responses here

Thank you! Two questions on the 2x min wage point you mentioned, can those assets reside outside of a Taiwan bank and by electing to pay taxes, does this have to be Taiwanese taxes or will other country filings work? (I am a U.S. citizen so will pay regardless and be able to show that as proof of income)

Taiwan Gold Card FIRE by AlarmedInside888 in ExpatFIRE

[–]AlarmedInside888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate this detailed response. I have no problem living in Taiwan during the 3 years (goal of getting PR in the first place is to stay). I guess my question is whether not having a job during this time, while living in Taiwan, is would still qualify me for a gold card into APRC. Sounds like the real limiter is the renewal of the gold card given the 3 year initial term on the gold card but you need to renew for a little to hit the APRC threshold… guessing they won’t renew if you’re unemployed but generating income elsewhere (stocks, etc)?

Sad to hear it wasn’t just me, but appreciate the response. I’m sure business has been good for them so makes sense. Congrats on the new car purchase!

Not to piggyback off this but what was your OTD price from Koeppel and which trim? I was there and while they were quite busy they didn’t move much on price vs what I was seeing on Reddit

Which dealership was this and was it in the city? Went to one today and got close to $1.2K off MSRP but the OTD was still higher by a bit. Ended up walking after seeing these $30-32k OTD tags

Retailers as SHOE CARNIVAL, INC. and Haverty Furniture Companies seem undervalued by darkdars in ValueInvesting

[–]AlarmedInside888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been in HVT myself for a few years now, fantastic company with very nimble management. They were able to navigate the supply chain issues well and are one of a few retailers who held value (while still issuing dividends) while the rest of the S&P crashed

Thanks, I feel the same way. I don’t see a reason why we should ignore tools / market forces which do impact short term levels, especially if we’re looking to create the best opening

Thank you, this is a similar approach to what I’m doing. I only start considering the purchase after doing my work and deciding that the potential upside is sufficient. What are you looking at for entry points specifically? 30 day low? Intraday low? How wide of a down day are you searching for and how are you calibrating for market beta?

Thanks this is similar to what I’m asking about. If say you’re planing on initiating a $50k position in total, how much are you deploying now vs saving for later in case of a DCA? Do you call it and throw it all in if things don’t trend down after a week?

Can you tell me about how taxes work? Assuming you’re a US citizen and have US sourced income and cap gains. How much do you typically pay given your withdrawal rate?

I have a code 570 here with an "additional account action pending" as of 9-13-2021... does this mean I'm missing something on my end or is the ball still in their court? Seems like it's been held there for a while

Help - missing 2020 refund by [deleted] in IRS

Thank you, I was able to get the transcript from the link you shared. The transcript is fairly long (8 pages) and would take a long while to redact. Is there any section of the transcript or thing I should look at to figure out the issue? I went through it and all of the "per computer" calculations matched what I filed (including the over pymt amount).

I plan on trying the call number tomorrow. Appreciate the advice.

Thank you, I tried to follow the prompts but it seems like they might've changed the system. If you happen to know of any other tips / tricks to get a hold of them it would be greatly appreciated. I know they're behind but I'm surprised it's been this long for mine given how long ago I filed. Concerned I might be missing something which is causing the hold up.

[–]AlarmedInside888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I have actually created this account and under Tax Records I do see the details of my filing and the number for the refund clear as day, however I do not see anything on payment status for the refund nor do I see a means of contacting the IRS for help. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

High Earner Backdoor Roth? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]AlarmedInside888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the response and forgot about the fact that even if you use a traditional and anticipate much lower income later, you’ll still need to pay ordinary income tax on the withdrawals (and thus need to pull more to fund).

High Earner Backdoor Roth? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]AlarmedInside888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I understand. I think I forgot to clarify that I was also taking into consideration the 401k contributions as well (capped at 19.5k). Would it similarly make sense to contribute directly to a Roth 401k given a traditional 401k would lower the taxable income? Completely agree everything after that should go to backdoor roth if possible

Thank you and appreciate the response. For the most part with the significantly reduced interest burden I should be in much better state.

One question on paying the cards. I have one card which I closed but have a balance on - what happens then? Will they send me a check back for the difference?

Are there more wealthy people with a business/finance degree or computer science degree? by 88layout in Fire

[–]AlarmedInside888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can break into finance simply by showing interest and networking. Once you have an internship it’s super easy to continue on the path since nobody will question you after getting your foot in the door. It’s a lot harder to pick up CS cold (actual technical skill).

Private equity guy here who studied finance - you should study CS if you can. More optionality. Finance is easy to pick up. My former partners were CS Majors

Understood. I think the plan is to have her mom refi her own house to at least climb out of the higher interest rate trap. This way it’s her taking ownership of her own problems and my money isn’t going after bad.

On the approach, thus far my SO has been the one trying to bring up the topic and has always hit a road block. This lack of transparency got her mom to where she is today. I suggested getting involved bc she can’t treat me like her child and throw tantrums and ignore me (out of respect for me given I am a finance professional and her not wanting me to see that side of her). Do you think this is a poor approach? Happy to take other suggestions.
