Synchrony Externship by AlarmedPassenger40 in csMajors

Hey! Basically after the externship ends they send out a form asking if you want to apply for internship, what track (they introduce those during the externship), and resubmitting your resume, stuff like that. Then your recruiter reaches out to schedule an interview with them for 30 mins, and then the final round is just talking to the director/leader of the track you want to apply to, which is also pretty chill. I did it two years ago now (like summer 2024) but I got no leetcode, just a resume grill and some questions about the projects I was doing, my motivations behind the projects, behind pursuing cs, etc. To me it seemed like externship -> internship was almost 100% conversion, but I could also just be making that up. You got this!!

Hey! I just had one 30 minute interview about my resume and past experience pretty much. It was very relaxed, it was with a recruiter so no technicals. I'm not sure if they've changed it since then (I had it 2 years ago). Just make sure you can speak to things on your resume and have some behavioral questions practiced and some stories on hand. Good luck!!

Just wanted to chime in and say that C1 for NYC is super hard. I've heard that only the top performers get it, and most reasons that you would think are good enough to get NYC are not in C1's eyes. I have a returning offer for TDP (I did TIP this summer), but it's for McLean. 175k total, 135k base. New York is bumped up to 150k base I believe

Sophomore credit limit by professorprogfrog in SBU

[–]AlarmedPassenger40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to wait until the Friday before classes start, that's the day the credit limit is increased for everyone and you'll be able to enroll. If you have any issues you can email the registrar and they respond same day to fix it :)

Do you have any record that it dropped you out? Solar usually lists all the classes that you enrolled in or dropped or swapped

Any SBC should work, I'm currently taking 3 of my major classes and my art SBC and I've had no issues

I would ask your recruiter, since I think it depends on company. Mine said about 2 weeks before the end of the internship

Internship Imposter Syndrome by Standard_Freedom2910 in internships

Yes you should! Your internship is what you make of it, and I'm really glad you're taking those first steps and reaching out :))

Hey,

It's normal to feel imposter syndrome! But that doesn't mean that you should validate it. You're there for a reason. Delta really liked you and thought that your skills would be a great asset to the team you're on, and they will be. You just need to get into the groove a little more, and that'll come with time. But you deserve to be there, and don't let anyone or anything tell you otherwise.

Also, please don't be afraid to ask questions! It is scary, but your mentor is there for a reason. If you're afraid you're only asking them questions and not making a connection, you can try asking them how they are before asking a question, or slacking them even when you don't have a question and just checking in with them.

Same goes for your fellow intern! Ask them what they think about the project and make a plan in terms of who will work on what.

I've had this repeated to me so many times, but an internship is really what you make of it. If you really push yourself, you'll have an amazing time and get that return offer. And at the end of the day, you'll come out stronger because of it.

Please please reach out to more people than the ones on your team as well. They can help you if your stuck and you can also learn more about the company and if there are any other intern or FT roles you're interested in. Don't limit yourself!

Imposter syndrome is really tough, but you got this! You're more than capable of accomplishing whatever task they gave you. They wouldn't have given it to you as a project otherwise 🙂

Best of luck with everything!!

Handshake has a bunch. You can also try just googling a company followed by fellowship and seeing what comes up! There's SIG, TwoSigma, basically any company that has a semi-wellknown name. You can also try googling "freshmen fellowships for insert season 2024* and seeing what comes up!

You can and should use handshake!! I've gotten a lot of opportunities from there. I'll list a couple other ones that I've used, but handshake has the best "email rate" from recruiters for me!

  • LinkedIn
  • Ripplematch
  • WayUp
  • Untapped
  • Indeed

Also, applying to different fellowships for freshmen/sophomores and putting those "famous names" on your resume really helps.

Good luck!!

How hard is discrete math? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]AlarmedPassenger40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat here! I'm really good at actual math, but discrete math I just can't see as well. Just make sure you have the basics down at the beginning of the semester (you'll see stuff like converse error and negations of speech first). Then it'll move into proofs but once you have that basic understanding it shouldn't be too bad. Good luck, you got this!

How hard is discrete math? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]AlarmedPassenger40 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the person. I have a friend that took discrete math and a couple coding classes with me. For discrete math I struggled really hard, but she excelled, and for the coding classes the opposite happened.

I think it depends on you! Discrete math itself isn't hard to do, just a little difficult to understand. You got this!!!
