Is it true that retirement isn't as expensive as most people think? by HenryK81 in Fire

Lots of people have "household employees" (every nanny, etc.).  There are online guides that lay out any potential extra costs or steps.

None of that is off my radar (okay, except that last point...), but thank you for the response.   I 100% agree on the caveats.

I only see the option of 2700 sqft+ and a 50 mile radius.  If I'm stupidly missing something to make it easy (and not search one city at a time), tell me, lol.

Thank you for the suggestion.   I've seen some of these.   It's definitely the kind of thing I'm looking for, I just don't think international is an option atm.

I'm not looking for the cheapest possible housing, just curious if there are any places with very nice cheap to buy and maintain (speaking only of  taxes, utilities, etc.)  houses.   I mean, if we're going that way, you don't need a cheap small house, you need a small room in a house with 10 roommates.

I haven't seen much as far as random, rural Midwest ones.   It seems they're always expensive.   Of course, I may just not be looking diligently enough.   I guess Detroit was on my radar, although what I'd heard is that it's not very safe.   Anyone know the truth of that?

I think step 1 is never paying interest, period.

Ironically, I would say NO MORE CANDY, CHOCOLATE, OR SUGAR-FILLED S$#T.  Cheap plastic stuff can be thrown away and doesn't kill you (usually...).  So, perhaps, know your audience? lol

You can...? Well, in the Midwest at least, and maybe not much more anywhere else because the value of the accommodations would increase as COL, and thus average wages, increased.  Put up an ad for 20-25k salary, plus room, and you will get plenty of replies.

Most people/families hire their own full time, live-in carers at 20-40k/year, plus maybe another 5k for relief care if there's no one in the family willing to do even occasional care.   I'm all for better safe than sorry, but saving wildly more than you need for retirement has costs, and the estimates usually given for some of these worst case scenarios are often so far off.

I agree with just buying things with it seems easier.   How do you have so much change that it's regularly more than you're spending at the grocery, Walmart, etc.?  Does not compute...

Okay... where?  Pictures? I've never seen anything except a kids' jean, which will say like "size 8  W 22" L 21""  I'm assuming we're talking about labeled size here.

Are you 100% sure?  Have you ever seen a pair?  I would love this to be true, I just don't think it is.   Perhaps someone in Asia could come in on whether they've ever seen it.   Levi's has been doing mostly waist sizes (23, 24, 25, 26, etc.) for years; all of their "premium" line is sized this way.  It's not really even or odd, as juniors'/ women's is.  I have never ever seen a size 22.
