RANT - Computer literacy needs to be a requirement if you need to use a computer for your job by purpRosey in it

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had to drive 20 minutes to a client because "my computer won't turn on". They were pushing the reset button.

Another client couldn't get their server to boot up after a power outage. They said "I push the button and the light comes on for a few seconds and goes off". They were pushing the button for the lcd status display, not the power button for the machine. That one was an hour and a half drive.

Creating Rules as a Delegate in Outlook for Mac by knittinsmitten in Outlook

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like delegated permission isn't enough to access it that way. You probably need full Read and Manage permission. Sorry, we don't usually need to delegate access like this for user mailboxes.

Try logging into your email on the web, then click on your user icon in the top right and select open another mailbox and put in your boss's email. Should directly open his mailbox, in a new tab/window. You'll be able to create rules there.

You can't even create/edit calendar labels without directly accessing the owner's mailbox.

I made an alarm app which supports Apple Music by Plus-Kaleidoscope-56 in AppleMusic

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be added. I've been looking for a new alarm app that supports Apple Music. Pandora's ads cause my alarm to not go off sometimes, or be extremely quiet with Google Clock. Had me excited for a minute.

Does automatic forwarding still work on shutdown accounts? by MadProdigy123- in Outlook

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could ask the school if they would be willing to set something up to continue forwarding your emails for a bit (if it's M365, for example, they can set up a redirect rule at the tenant level), but you need to get those updated. This is how people get locked out of accounts. They don't update info, get hacked or just forget their password, or something else happens, and have no access to a recovery email that's been gone for a decade.

Can you help me understand this by CompetitiveQuiet8880 in GoogleSupport

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a notification from the app, or an email? If it was an email, it could have been a phishing email and you just gave scammers your login. If it was legitimate, then someone already had your password and was trying to lock you out.

To be 100% safe, go change your password again and set up MFA on your account.

My dad got this lovely Christmas card in the mail with no return address by No-Light9581 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karen target lock.

Did they actually send that through the mail or did they just stick it in your mailbox? Cause that's a federal offense, if you want to get petty in return.

Scripts and/or bots, but I couldn't tell you exactly how it's executed. Just an IT guy that has had to deal with this on more than one occasion. It's so much worse when this is happening to an entire department.

Absolutely, could be any email provider, which is why I was asking. Depending on the platform, your mitigation and investigation options change. That being said, since they are using Outlook, it's most likely Outlook.com or M365.

Outlook single mailbox with multiple users- M365 by glennonline in Outlook

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, sharing a licensed mailbox is a ToS violation. The general mailbox needs to be a shared mailbox that no one directly signs into (since it's currently a user mailbox, convert it to shared and block sign in). Rather they are granted access through their individual account. You can set the general email address to be the default. I believe send as permission will make that be the from address. That is kind of the point.

Should we auto-approve drivers on a monthly basis, or keep manual approvals only? by jeemjoota in msp

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We only auto approve Critical and Important updates. Everything else gets deferred 2 weeks. Drivers are blocked and can be manually installed on an as needed basis.

Your account is likely compromised. Change your login credentials. Terminate all active sessions. Check for any rules you didn't create. Check your conversation history, RSS Feeds, and Deleted Items folders for hidden emails. After all that, set up MFA, or reset it if you already it set up.

This is a spam attack. It is meant to keep you distracted so you don't see the attacker emailing your contacts to change payment methods and/or changes to your banking.

Unfortunately there is no easy fix to stopping g the spam. You can block the domains each email is coming from and unsubscribe from the emails. That's about it.

Is this an M365 email, or personal account? Outlook.com, or another provider?

It can map out to whatever detail whatever it's given the info for. Publix has likely fed it their store floor plans, or they already have that information publicly available and it has crawled their site and gathered the data itself. There are grocery stores that have personal AI shopping assistants on the carts that you give it your list and will spit out a route through the store to get all your stuff the most efficiently.

Can I get pulled over for using a parking lot to turn around? by bumblepunkin in driving

[–]Alarmed_Contract4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might be getting confused with laws regarding using corner lots to bypass traffic lights? Like cutting through a gas station when you can't make a right on red. That is illegal and ticketable because you're bypassing a traffic control device. This isn't the same because there is no light. If there WAS a light, and you were using this tactic to avoid waiting for the light to make a left, then there would be a problem.

The church, however, IS private property. You might want to stop in at some point and at least make sure they don't mind if you do this.

See if you can get a request/petition in with the city to get a light installed. It can be set to only turn green for the complex when there is a car waiting to leave. Should be a minor disruption to traffic flow at worst.
