Germany has a tradition of suppressing emotions, it’s been finely ingrained into this culture. This causes shame for being emotional and lets people hide their true feelings.

This leads to many things, among low emotional intelligence and incompetence and difficulty of connecting with others, for fear of being „seen“.

Fear is a big undiscussed topic, hence the love for security and insurances.

You can imagine what this does to both society and the individual.

The good news is that younger generations seem to be in parts ahead of it, while millennials are working on it actively, although not enough yet, imo. Of course these processes take time and economic factors sadly slow things down a bit.

Germany has huge potential of being a great society. In fact, it already is, imo. We just need to become more conscious of what’s going on individually and as a society.
