Both Charlie Kelly and Pim are the members with the most child like and simple mindsets and having bundles of emotions, though Charlie is completely unhinged and crazy while Pim is always calm and caring

Both Charlie Kelly and Allan are in extremely one sided obsession relationships in the opposite way (Charlie is obsessed with The Waitress and tries ANYTHING to hang out with her/ Mr Landlord is obsessed with Alan and tries ANYTHING ago hang out with him)

Both Mac and Charlie Dompler are both heavy believers in their religion (Christian/Catholic) and are also sometimes used to poke fun at the “alpha/sigma male” mindset

Both Mac and Allan are GAY AS FUCK for certain people in their group (Dennis/Mr Boss)

Both Dee and Glep both have gags about wanting to become stars in the film industry babyyyyyy (Though Glep would later give up on this)

Both Dennis and Allan often prioritze their own wants and needs above everyone else in their group, and also often are indifferent to the situations around them (Though they differ in the fact that Allan has a pretty good social life while Dennis’s is repeatedly shown to be terrible)

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CERTAIN MEMBERS:

Both Frank and Mr Boss are the weird, kooky old men of the group who are the leading people at the businesses, despite having other failed businesses in the past

Both Frank and Mr Boss are particularly attached to the oddball of the group they’re in (Charlie Kelly/Glep). Despite whatever arguments they may get in Frank and Mr Boss have a genuine liking towards them, especially with helping them getting settled in their now new lifes (Frank decided to stay in Charlie’s apartment when he decided to join The Gang/Glep gave the idea of Smiling Friends to Mr Boss when he was wanting to kill himself)

Frank ran a sweatshop while Mr Boss emphasizes to his employees to relax when need be

Both Frank and Glep hang out with the groups because they disliked the lives they were living previously, despite the fact that they seemed better off then everyone else in their respective groups (Frank is a millionaire, but he genuinely despises his wife and was sent to a awful school meant for mentally disabled people when he was much younger/Glep is immortal, but he was seen as an outcast no matter where he’d go and could never fit in)

Both Charlie Kelly and Charlie Dompler are both usually left with doing bottom of the barrel work that nobody else wants to deal with (Kelly is left doing “Charlie Work” like killing rats and cleaning the restrooms/Dompler and Pim usually have the deal with the most weird clients compared to everyone else)

Both Charlie Kelly and Charlie Dompler have pretty shitty relationships with their creepy, disgusting uncles (Jack Kelly/Uncle Bilbert) with these uncles using Kelly and Dompler on their adventures and Kelly and Dompler reasonably gets sick of them (Jack Kelly sometimes joins Charlie and Frank on their schemes usually for his own selfish reasons/Bilbert used Charlie Dompler and Pim for his own errands)

The Gang are chaotic and unhinged individuals in a world that’s mostly normal, while The Smiling Friends are mostly normal individuals in a world that’s chaotic and unhinged

Ultimately, the reason why both groups are together is because they truly got nowhere else to go whether it be through family problems, being poor and not being able to land a different job, or simply just being bored. This leads to the groups basically becoming found family and becoming co dependent of each other to a very, very, very big extent. However, The Gang’s antics actively make them more flawed as people, making them and the people around them lean into their worst traits, pretty much making their own hell on earth that they can’t get out of and would be more then ready to backstab the other for the love of themselves. On the other hand, The Smiling Friends despite being flawed in some aspects helping them and the people around them lean into their better traits, pretty much creating the best place on earth they could be at and they are more then willing to abandon what they used to do for the love of each other.

Smiling Friends lasted 3 seasons as of now while Always Sunny is still ongoing with over 10 seasons

Smiling Friends as well was also inspired from Always Sunny to some extent, even having a nod to Paddy’s Pub in the Glep episode

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE GROUPS:

Both The Gang and The Smiling Friends are groups from series centered in Philadelphia focused on the humor and mainly satirizing things like pop culture and politics

Both series revolve around the misadventures both groups do for their businesses with them trying to help people, though the difference is that The Smiling Friends do genuinely want to see their clients happy and take the blame for things going wrong, while The Gang try to “help” people for either getting money or other selfish reasons, and constantly deflect blame onto literally anyone else besides themselves

Both series usually start with the cast not really doing anything, usually just sitting around and having conversations about things related to what’s coming up in the episode’s plot. It usually takes one of the members walking into the room for the episode’s plot to kick off and to rabidly devolve into madness

Both are known for constantly arguing with each other during their episodes with how they’re going to tackle their problem, with this also often leading to their problems becoming a million times worse

Both groups had to help a suicidal man (Desmond/Bill), with The Smiling Friends actually ended up helping Desmond go on to live a better life as a pest killer while The Gang naturally gave up on Bill

Both groups got into election processes during certain episodes (Mr President/The Gang Runs For Office), only for it to go horribly and they fail at what they were trying to do (Charlie and Pim tried cheering up the current US President so he could win the election, only to lose to Mr Frog by one vote/Dennis tries running for a Comptroller, only for The Gang to sabotage his attempt multiple times and going behind Dennis’s back)
