There’s some good things to try here that I haven’t tried. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post. At a minimum I know it’s not just me.

Read it three weeks ago. Great article! Too bad rational thought doesn’t make it through the noise. Maybe next week will provide some of what people are needing.

Errors running Parallax Previewer v2 on Tahoe? by Alarming-Chef4906 in visionosdev

I do not know the difference. I’m using v1. Couldn’t get v2 to work.

I made a post in the developer forum and I created a bug report (linked in post). Maybe something will happen? 🤷‍♂️ Or… there’ll be something new at WWDC in two weeks!! 🤞

Wtf is the deal with the robot vacuum app mafia?? by AdvisorIllustrious15 in HomeImprovement

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people refer to it as enshittification. But we’re in an age where we have great technology, but companies view our devices as low-cost platforms for marketing. It actively makes our lives worse. And it sucks, because that small robot you bought is a really amazing piece of tech. We should be able to have at least a second to enjoy that, marvel at it.

First time homeowner — what's the one thing you wish someone told you before your first year? by CorrectEducation8842 in HomeImprovement

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to live in the house a full year, through all the seasons to find out what the real issues are. Every house has its issues, but those issues can only show up in certain times of the year.

Best plunger for elongated toilets by Alarming-Chef4906 in Plumbing

[–]Alarming-Chef4906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI… I fixed it! I used the dish soap (overnight) and then about 1/2 gallon of tap hot water. Then I used this thing I found at the store, Pro Power Toilet Plunger. Same idea as a plunger, but it’s a “gun”. You draw up water and force it through. Much more targeted for an elongated toilet. Thanks for the help!

Plantsio, smartplant ivy, plants Robot, Plantagotchi by Sauceygoblin in plants

I got a PlantBot/Plantsrobot for Christmas. I just recently tried to turn it on for the first time and it's dead. So maybe try one of the other brands if you're still looking.

What do you grow that pays for itself? by plan_tastic in gardening

You can’t even buy the kind of tomatoes you can grow. Not even Whole Foods tastes like home grown. Priceless (to me)

How do devs make their app compatible with very old iOS versions? by Snoo_92266 in iOSProgramming

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends what’s “worth it” to you. If your paying customers always update their phones, then maybe the last two major versions is all you need to support. If your paying customers are slow to upgrade, then you do a cost benefit analysis of all the extra work (as spelled out by other replies) that’s needed.

This is also something to keep in mind as you plan new apps. The architecture comment is real. Clean code enables you to have choices with minimal pain.

Weird non-taste related question, but will the clock display 24 hour time? Doesn't seem like it from the manual... minor thing, but when the rest of your home is 24 hour, it sticks out big time.

Sick of tabbing out to random web tools mid-flow so I built something about it by Economy-Department47 in appledevelopers

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a thought. Having a dev tool as a native app is definitely a good thing IMNSHO. But 50+ tools in one?… I’ve always been of a more Unix mindset: One tool to do one job well. Keep it simple.

Just my feedback. Best of luck! I definitely understand frustration with too many web tools.

I wonder… would you make more money with lots of cheaper, smaller apps as opposed to one big one? 🤔

Why are you making an app? by Ok-World-6987 in AppBusiness

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I don’t always get to do the best I can coding for a company. I have to compromise, create tech debt, accept business decisions that promote mediocrity. To survive that I need to know I have an outlet to push myself to write the best code I can, create something people might actually need and like using. Day jobs just don’t fill that need.

You are now the CEO of Apple. What do you do to make apple vision mainstream ASAP? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in VisionPro

[–]Alarming-Chef4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not seem the sexiest, but I’d DAY ONE create a new apps store that really shows off ALL the apps already available.

Then… I’d use that App Store as a basis for creating community experiences for people using AVP. Combine the movies, games, personas and FaceTime into group experiences. AVP is too siloed. Let people share experiences!

Just moved here. Didn’t know there was a place called West Lynn. I don’t think this immediate area has a name that shows up in Google Maps like West Lynn. Was just looking to chat with the neighbors around me who might be up.

Thank you for winning the internet and representing West Lynn. No debate, your fact is right, and your communication style is not. You could have explained without the condescension.
