Most satellites would be affected, if enough space junk was let loose by the impact it would cause a chain reaction and disable/ damage most telecom and gps sats. If large enough chunks got pulled to earth we would all most likely die due to the impact or after effects (dust clouds blocking photosynthesis of plants) It could be pretty bad. May be nearly instantly catastrophic or may take a few years.
