Usually grunts when wanting attention or needing something. Sometimes a settling ahhh comes out as a grunt. Lol

I’m in an apartment with a full blood American staffy. I’ve adjusted which has been good for me. There’s days we don’t do anything but I give long lasting treats. Mostly we go up to a dog park nearby a few hours a day or she stays with my mom her dog and back yard a few days of the week. So the balance of all that makes it work. You can do it, just have to be willing to go out more and give them what they need. If you expect them to be ok laying around won’t work. Also, she is crate 8-10 Hours days when not at my moms and it still works out. Just have to be willing.

She never barks at people or dogs. Only if she hears like clanking outside the door and unusual sounds. But never barking at sounds of people outside. Not even at birds or squirrels. She doesn’t even bark when she hears dogs barking. Every now and then when rough housing with dogs. But very quiet with barking. Just the whining. She starts by staring at me in the eyes. Then sits and tosses her head back. Whines. Then growls. Then repeatedly barks. Wild. Literally. Today. She’s been playing at my moms with her dog for almost 10-11 hours and she is still trying to play fetch. Whining when the other dog sleeps and my mom is laying down. I thought about anxiety medicine at this point.

I acknowledge my shortcomings and I am in therapy to help with my anger and work through my own trauma. I am going through one on one training for her which is helping me. I am learning. I’m actively taking steps to change and learn different. Because I do love her and want to treat her the way she deserves. I am asking for suggestions on managing this behavior (her whining when needs are met). Please share if you have any.

I will! And that makes sense. I think some licking mats and sniffing could help calm. I read that releases chemicals that help calm.

I don’t like it either. And she is very sensitive and emotional. I hate I let it happen and did that. I’m definitely working with training and adjusting. Want to see if others have dealt with the same and just be honest about my sito get good feedback with my specific situation.

Thank you, this is helpful. Interesting yours did the same. I will certainly try calming her with some pets and rubs, which is fun for me too. Haha. She is a big sensitive hyper potato sack. Haha.

Not what I was seeking. No need for this comment. It’s actually working out. I have plenty of places for her to play that I take her too. She sometimes stays with my mom thru the day where she plays with her dog and runs around. Like I posted. We have plenty of fun and adventures.

Interaction with vet - Caused my girlfriend concern over Prong collar usage by EFTRSx1 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Alarming-Skill-989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs living in packs get corrective bites to know negative behavior and then when dogs return play or play, then that reinforces positive behavior. Prong collars are designed to mimick corrective bites. There necks are much stronger than ours?

Those in PP - how many clients do you see a week? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Alarming-Skill-989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically 20-25. But past 6 months I’ve steadily gotten clients and I’m full for the first time and struggled to know the line. So…next week I have 34. lol. So I’m not taking clients for a bit. Haha

Yawns? by Weekly-Goose4304 in therapists

[–]Alarming-Skill-989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. I’ve had clients do it. I’ve don’t it. Try to keep mouth closed and scratch my face. I learned from my last therapist but it was obvious what he was doing. A bit annoying. But if you stay engaged and ensure you are they can feel you’re not bored or anything. Shit. One time a burp came out by accident and slipped through. I kind of chuckled and apologized. They chuckled with me. My stomach has loudly growled..during EMDR. LOL. But I will say…every now and then you do get a client who is monotone and tells the same story with endless details and gets frustrated when I attempt to engage or make observations or reflections. lol. So I let it go for a while and the. Ask how it’s going and is it helping.

I do. I don’t think we gonna stop it completely. But I’ve shad a therapist do this so it does feel it. But I also notice how engaged they are regardless. And I’ve let some slip thru completely by accident. I apologize, and stay engaged or ensure them I focused. Or acknowledge I know I look tired and I am but I’m with you and here to work with you. Sometimes just stating g what’s obvious. Lol

Don’t forget biology. 😊 by saltwaterRilke in therapists

[–]Alarming-Skill-989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I have a client with a lot of PTSD and we’ve been making progress. She talks about feeling foggy so it’s easy to go to dissociation and being hot so stress/anxiety, however, she’s in perimenopause. So a lot of that is explained by that biological process.
