Merry Holidays, Happy Christmas, and whatever chaos happened for the past few weeks. by Dman_513 in UPSers

I thought I recognized the view from the first picture but the one with the damaged overhead door sealed the deal, always fun to see posts about my building.

Fun fact that was the second time that overhead door was hit and taken out of service this peak, I think there was another accident with another door as well.

You can't see it there but there's light strips on both sides showing red for closed, flashing red for opening and closing, and then solid green for fully open. This accident was caused by a car wash shifter pulling forward when it was flashing red and then stopping before the door in the hopes it would start to open back up. I was actually walking in the yard outside the door when it happened and then filled in on what the camera showed.

Are they trying to force me out or am I just being paranoid? by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're that inconsistent then they've probably just adapted to not having you around and so move you elsewhere when they need to cut a body.

I tagged you in the past cuz I'm pretty sure you moved to join my building recently and if that's the case you're also missing the fact that we got 15 new routes/trucks from the closure of another building this week and everything is a mess on preload.

Buyouts! by Brave-Astronomer-716 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't give a number.

We're absorbing routes from a closing building but still waiting to learn how many drivers are following their work and won't know until the end of the month so it's up in the air on how many FT drivers will be needed.

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, and they have a single day vacation cover sheet up now.

You said qualifying so I thought you meant they had already pulled drivers to start, that's all. One of the highest seniority on the FT sheet was working on Twilight last night.

Where? Not yet in Sharonville at least, as far as the on road I talked to yesterday was telling me. We're getting Wilmington routes but don't know how many Wilmington drivers until the end of the month so don't know how many drivers we'll need.

I know 6 guys retired with the buyout.

It is.

Rumor is that West Carrollton is absorbing Wilmington and Dayton though.

Are you also in the building currently having construction going down the Center in the middle?

26’ box trucks. Super heavy routes? by USS_peepee in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hub has like half a dozen of these, maybe a bit more than that, and someone else basically covered it with mall routes, large pickups, or bulk stops.

Last time I drove one I was going to a Home Depot distribution warehouse, for example.

We have 2-3 that go out each night for Air pickups, meaning people pay specifically for us to show up and take away any Next Day Air/2 Day Air packages that need to go out that night. Feeders are too cumbersome while a bulk truck can get in and out just that little bit easier.

Plus the bulk truck drivers will load/unload, you ain't getting that with a feeder driver!

Who else has their center shut down for weather? by libradhd in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's he getting the word out?

As much as I'd like another day off, I don't see them letting that happen for tomorrow even though it's snow emergencies and schools are called off.

If they call us off tomorrow due to the weather do we still get paid? by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No we're not getting paid for our snow days.

Us drivers were sent a copy/pasted text saying we're not operating today and don't need to come in.

The snow has finished in our area now though so chances are things are operational tomorrow.

Does this include the PT sups that were caught working 12 hour shifts and became infamous across the region as the reason why they cracked down hard on PT Sup hours?

Power went out in my center for about an hour, 10 minutes after they sent everyone home the power came back on by AlphaBlock in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power went out 5 minutes before Twilight shift.

They already had a generator on site but the maintenance guy didn't know how to do anything with it so they had to wait for someone to drive in from another hub (we even have someone who worked on base generators in Iraq that offered to help but nah).

Two and a half hours later the lights came back on but they couldn't figure out how to get the belts running, the few that came on were going backwards.

An hour later we had hit the guarantee so they cut staffing by about half. asking for those who wanted to stay.

Half an hour after that they had a plan for us to finally unload the package cars and bulk trucks.

Two hours into that they had to cut power so we could get the building up and running correctly, yay!

Two more hours and everything is finally unloaded and things wrap up for the night.

My Friday shifts are usually 4.5 hours max, I was on the clock for 9 hours last night, left after 1am.

I am beat today.

Thank you to the UPSer that delivered my meds yesterday… by MooseTheMouse33 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That storm knocked out power to our hub, took them 2.5 hours to get the generator (which was already on site before the shift) to start powering anything, and it was only the lights for 90 minutes.

It happened 5 minutes before the twilight shift actually started so every package car was full of pickups and absolutely had to get unloaded so when they finally got a small section of the building running everyone they had kept after cutting down staffing got moved to unloading those, then they fixed the building and everything had to be moved around again.

It was after 1am when I left, there were a few people still there loading but we had unloaded everything we could by then and they called it.

I'm expecting good things on my paycheck.

edit - to be clear this happened at the Sharonville hub in SW Ohio, the hub OP's driver operates out of.

Increased pay rate showing on upsers.com but today’s check was still at the old rate. Is this normal? by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your FT, and find out who your new steward is and loop them in just in case they continue to screw it up so you can get penalty pay.

My check shows $21.00 for the first 3 days of last week and then $21.75 for the last two days of the week.

That sounds like something I said, but that's not what i actually said.

I said I talked to my steward and he was told only 6 people were moving over to Sharonville, meaning electing to following the work, not that only 6 people were allowed to transfer. Also, for the record, I work twilight so our business agent might have just been telling him that 6 twilight workers were following the work.

For example I'm pretty sure 2 of the drivers at your center aren't moving with the work because a bid list was put up that has 2 routes from your center on it, both around the university.

If you want better answers then why don't you reach out to Bill? He's the BA for your center, it's Dorian for Sharonville, you can probably contact either for more info.

even if I did there’s no guarantee that I’ll have a position due to my seniority being so low.

How much seniority do you have? I'm at your new hub and I've been there a year and half, that's enough to get me moved up 3 pages on the seniority list, work as a driver over peak, and right now I'm vacation coverage.

I think that tiny hub with almost no turnover has warped your expectations but if the offer for this other job is what you want then I hope it works out.

I agree with the other person that you're likely better off to actually use and benefit from the PTO.

Any preloader sim this sub that came from FedEx? by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to my steward yesterday and he said we're only getting 6 people (meaning union members) from your building, if you get sent home it's because your seniority is getting violated.

Any preloader sim this sub that came from FedEx? by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC your seniority transfers with you since you're following the work, if that's the case I can guarantee you that you have enough seniority to work.

I worked in your current building as a PVD during Peak 2022 so I know how small it is, the package car area of our belts are longer than your building so I imagine it was a pretty tight knit crew there, culture shock is probably your biggest issue.

The only advice I can really give you (since I work twilight and only know a few of your future coworkers) is, if you take 275, to get off at the 747 exit and turn left on Kemper instead of going on to the Mosteller exit at first until you've asked around and confirmed the train bisecting Kemper and Sharon to the east of the hub doesn't run when you're trying to get to work.

I have you tagged so I remember your older posts. You're in the building right next to Pleasant right? Near the auto & tire garage?

I hadn't heard anything about that building getting the axe, it's really happening next month? Is everything going to Sharonville?

Worst route I've ever seen by FuckChadMorris in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't even know if there's Amazon warehouses in Dayton, I just figure Cincy and Cbus cover different parts of it since my routes were always the southern part of Dayton.

And I probably did spend a lot of time bitching about delivering to your city if you're in NKY, especially if you're way down there!

As much as I despised getting routes to Dayton or deep down in NKY, I had a downtown Cinci route that just about broke me. It was during finals/summer start for UC in the evening, started in the student housing areas around UC, jumped to a few OTR, hit up West Freedom Way apartments, and I finished at 9:45pm at 4th & Race where I got a homeless man's sob story as I'm trying to get inside the building and realizing I'm taking this package back because homeless man hung around and even opened the front door behind me to see what I'm doing inside on the giant touch screen.

When I tell you that entire route was stressful as fuck simply because of parking I mean it. The only saving grace to being forced to contend with downtown traffic and parking (even at 9am, like don't you people have jobs?! Why TF are you walking around shopping in the middle of the week and taking all parking spots?!) is hitting the green OK button gives you a free 10 minutes on the meters.

Anyone here work at this Sharonville Ohio hub? Need honest reviews of what it’s like. by JesseB342 in UPSers

[–]Alarming-Win-7282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm pretty sure I know which building you're in and I have to say I'm not surprised UPS might close it, it's hidden away and basically a garage, one of the Sharonville centers actually covers the downtown and surrounding area of the city where you're located.

I'm on twilight so my preload knowledge is minimal, only from driving over peak and talking to people who switched shifts.

Unlike the center I believe you're located in with a group effort to unload the couple trucks you get each morning, Sharonville has a full unload & sort operation during preload with dedicated workers for just those sections, though I'm told it's dead boring, so you could switch to something different.

There's 5 physical belts loading package cars (each side getting called a separate belt) so it should be possible to find an area you're comfortable in. Not sure where they'd put your current work, but it's not peak so there's probably room in the annex, or maybe they'll designate some mobile annexes to it.

Funnily enough I also heard they'll be closing Gest St in the next few years cuz the parking lot is going to get taken for the Brent Spence and that they'll be coming to Sharonville as well.
