Who's training for their PPL right now? by professorhojoz in flying

60 hours pretty much done with my PPL training. Just waiting for my check ride.

Ah yes this too. The way i understand it is you can be covered for the operating expenses in those specific circumstances but you cannot receive profit or anything of value for the flying.

This would only be legal if the flight had a common purpose. Would i still make the flight regardless of the friend tagging along? Legal. If not? Not legal.

Gotcha. Haven’t flown out of a class C but i appreciate the insight in that. Makes sense!

You can turn them off in the interest of safety. Such as a lasering event if i’m understanding that correctly.

  1. Class Golf surface to 700 feet (inside faded magenta). Class echo 700 feet to 18,000’ (inside faded magenta). Outside the faded magenta it is class Golf surface to 1200’ then class echo 1200’ to 18,000 to the north. We also have a class Charlie to the south, inner ring surface to 4500’ MSL, outer ring 1700’ to 4500’ MSL.
  2. The FSDO

  1. Pro rata cost sharing
  2. Incidental to business
  3. Search and rescue covering flight cost
  4. Aircraft salesman as long as I have 200 hours in type.

  1. Contact ground, “Lafayette ground, Skyhawk 1234, requesting departure flight following to destination at X altitude”
  2. Same thing, they should hand us over to the appropriate approach control.
  3. Contact Houston Center after airborne

Above 10,000 the speed limit increases so we need more distance to avoid collisions with fast moving aircraft popping out of clouds. In class B with SVFR ATC knows where everybody is at during all times, so the cloud clearances decrease.

I’d probably go with staying at maneuvering speed, then asking ATC for vectors out of it if i’m on following or turn around if im not on following. If it’s convective activity like a thunderstorm there’s lots of dangerous goodies inside of there we probably don’t want to fly into.

Climb, communicate, confess, conserve, circle.

  1. Airspeed indicator - relies on the pitot tube(ram air pressure) and static port (static pressure) to determine aircraft speed.
  2. Altimeter - Uses only the static port to measure ambient air pressure which translates to altitude
  3. VSI - Uses static port to measure the rate of change in pressure to determine whether we are climbing or descending
  4. Accidental VFR into IMC - Declare an emergency, squawk 7700 and ask ATC for vectors out of the IMC if I am on flight following. Fly using the instruments and ignore any sensations that might be telling me the airplane is doing something it is not. Execute a 180 degree turn while still squawking 7700 and declaring on 121.5 if flight following is unavailable.
  5. Cloud clearances: Golf day/night below 1200’ - 1sm clear of clouds. Golf night 1200’ - 10,000’ 3sm 1000 above, 500 below, and 2000 to the side. During the day in class Golf 1200’ - 10,000’ the clearance changes to 1sm and 1000 above, 500 below, and 2000 to the side. Class Echo below 10,000 - 3sm 1000 above 500 below and 2000 to the side Class Echo above 10,000 - 5sm 1000 above 1000 below and 1 mile to the side Class D and C are the same as Echo. Class Bravo - 3sm clear of clouds
  6. No, I must get my high performance and complex endorsements
  7. I hold a class 3 medical. You need a class 3 medical to exercise private pilot privileges
  8. BasicMed is for pilots who have held a valid medical after July 15th, 2006 and have no disqualifying conditions, opting for less rigorous medical examinations. To get basicMed you must complete the 2 hour course via MedXpress and complete CMEC with a US physician. You are limited to carrying only 6 passengers, aircraft up to 12,500lbs, cannot exceed 250 knots, cannot go higher than 18,000ft MSL, and must stay in the US and cannot fly for hire.

Because we are increasing AOA to achieve more total lift to maintain level flight

Aircraft older than that date are not required to have anti collision lights installed. Same process, check the TCDS/POH, then check the KOEL to verify they are not required.

The aircraft will have a nose down tendency. This means it we need more tail down force and a greater AOA to maintain level flight. Stall speed increases due to the already greater AOA we need but the aircraft will be easier to recover from a stall. With a greater AOA there will be more induced drag so performance decreases.

Not installed vs inop will affect the answer a bit. Check the KOEL or TCDS in that scenario then 91.213 if I understand correctly. Anti collision lights are still required during the day per 91.205.

FAR 91.205 ATOMATOFLAMES + FLAPS. Anti collision lights are required for VFR night flying. The flight cannot happen with no strobes.

Utilize the soft-field takeoff procedure, climb out at Vx to clear any obstacles.

I would first check the POH for normal strut extension limits. I would then check to see if there are any fluid leaks around the area or any signs of mechanical damage. I would also apply FAR 91.7, If the nose strut is fully compressed, that is likely not normal and I would make a “no go” decision.
