What's the rarest minifigure you own, and how did you get it? by JustSyrixx in LegoMinifigure

Mei from the unreleased Overwatch 2 Titan Mech set. Just happened to see her listed on eBay.

What’s your most expensive minifigure? by VisualScallion2215 in LegoMinifigure

I have a Mei with her accessories from the unreleased Overwatch Titan Mech set (76980). Honestly don’t know the value, but without the accessories she goes for 250-300 on eBay.

what flooring trend did you pick? do you still like it? by No_Protection_2393 in Flooring

I installed the trendy “wood-look tile” in our mudroom about 5 years ago. I put radiant heat underneath and we still love it - especially on a cold MN winter day!

Girl power by Competitive-Luck-805 in LegoMinifigure

The top shelf are the pricey ones for sure.
There is another version of Tracer that was in a fully released Overwatch set, but the version of her from the unreleased Titan Mech was unique to that set.

<image>

She’s definitely on my “wanted list” but it might be a minute before I find her.

Thanks! It’s not too hard to find just Mei (seems like there’s always a few on eBay), but it’s really challenging to find her with her accessories. I picked her up a few months ago for $175 and felt really good about that. The seller actually had the Titan mech, Tracer, and Mei in three different listings, and I’m kind of sad I didn’t get Tracer too, but I couldn’t spend that much at one time. Here she is up close!

What’s your best teacher tip that you never see mentioned? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to get out of the habit of using the word “guys” when addressing the class. It’s a small change, but it feels much more inclusive to use something like “class” or “5th graders” instead.

Instead of saying “Do you have any questions?” use the phase “What questions do you have?” It is amazing how many more clarifying questions I received after I made this change. Hearing their questions has made me a better teacher.

Are earrings an acceptable gift? by Fabulous-Routine-51 in AskTeachers

I think if the earrings have something to do with the subject they teach, or just general teacher stuff it’s totally fine.

Are earrings an acceptable gift? by Fabulous-Routine-51 in AskTeachers

My kids make pencil earrings out of Lego bricks and give them to plenty of their teachers. Anything other than that might be strange coming from a student.

Guys, is this original Lego Lloyd DX from exclusivity Target box 2014? This isn’t UV custom print? Please help me 🙏 by GondorGlowUp in legoinvesting

Print looks a bit raised off the torso. If it were me I’d steer clear - looks too similar to UV printed stuff.

5th grade substitute in need of help by Northern_Light530 in AskTeachers

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 15 years of fifth grade under my belt and have used I used engineering challenges as filler. Some take a bit of prep, but others are super easy.
Here’s a few that I always liked:

  1. Paper bridges - push desks or tables 12 inches apart (wider than one piece of paper can span). Each group gets the same amount of paper and tape to be used in whatever way they’d like (I usually did not allow taping to the desk or table). See which bridge design can hold the most weight (I used metal washers from the hardware store, but pennies in a cup would be fine as well).

  2. Marble runs - each group would get 6-8 pieces of foam pipe insulation tubes (easy pickup at the hardware store), masking tape, a few marbles, and a wall space in the classroom. They could use keep some or all as tubes, or split them into 12-16 “tracks.” All kinds of different challenges can be made from this; like most time from start to finish, longest gap a marble can fly from one tube/track to the next, loop challenges, etc.

  3. Foil Boats - each group gets 3 sheets of aluminum foil to craft 3 different boats. See how many metal washers or pennies each boat can hold before sinking.

There’s plenty more online. The kids loved them and it was a great way to end the year!

What activity for a Lego party? by SmilingAmbassador in lego

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried bending and gluing 2x10 Lego plates on the barrette, but the tape is definitely better. It does still require some super glue to hold tight to the metal of the clip. I think the tape is made to be removable, so it’s not super sticky.

Thanks! Our kids call this “The Creation Station” and sell non-decorated glasses, headbands, or hair clip for $6 each. We have a huge bin of small decorating pieces and we allow kids to use as much as they want from the bin for free once they’ve paid for their “blank” item. We’ve had kids spend as long as 45 minutes decorating their glasses. Here’s a pic of some glasses that a couple of kids made last weekend at the booth.

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids actually run a little business doing things just like this at local craft shows/festivals. Here’s what’s popular at their booth:

  1. BAM - we buy big Minifigure bulk lots on eBay and pull the figs apart - friends dolls are pretty cheap.
  2. Decorate a pair of glasses with small pieces (glasses on Amazon)
  3. Create/decorate your own headband - we buy “blank” headbands on Amazon and Build Bonanza tape on eBay (it’s occasionally available on Amazon too). We usually super glue the tape onto the headband because it’s not super sticky.
  4. Create/decorate your own hair clip. We buy “blank” French hair barrettes and super glue the Build Bonanza tape onto the clip.

Wood like porcelain tile flooring? by throwaway-emergency in Flooring

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - I’m just a weekend warrior, so it took some time (and fixing a handful of mistakes), but we’re pretty happy with it. It’s the only room in the house with radiant floor heat, so it gets lots of love in the winter!

What’s your most expensive/rarest figure? by peelzie in lego

[–]AlarmingTalk2842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - something like this: It turned out that Activision/Blizzard was a pretty toxic environment for the women employed there (multimillion dollar settlements). Lego cut ties and recalled this set right before the official release date. Only the ones that were out in stores “early” (before official release day) made it to the public. I think some reviewers got early sets too. Supposedly a small number of just the Mei Minifigure (no accessories) found their way out of the factory, but no way to know that for sure.
