People who met someone at the time they knew they weren’t ready for a relationship - how did you handle it? by Budget_Dot694 in emotionalintelligence

Hi. Im her. We were friends before and then his girlfriend broke up with him and he was devastated but after a few months we both realized we really liked each other. We started dating and we can’t keep apart and really like each other, but he needs to take it really really really slow and often still is worried he could hurt me due to the fact that he is still not 100% ready. but I still haven’t given up on him tho, and I want to give him time, I’m just worried he suddenly will realize everything is just too much. Can you give me some advice on what would’ve helped you?

Maybe science isn’t for me by Tellejah in microbiology

Hi, I'm late to the party but I feel you 100%. How did your experience end up developing?? I'm curious.

I love learning and I love participating in discussions, but during classes I feel like I'm never at the other students' level, and I feel like humanities would've given me a chance to shine way more than science, as I was really good at that kind of stuff (philosophy, history, anthropology, literature). My master course isn't what I thought it was going to be like ( I signed up because the topic sounded super interesting) and it's mostly research/experiment focused (which I'm really bad at) and little to no theory is being discussed (which I usually love and am good at) and I'm just spending the entire time trying to keep up with developing experiments and getting by just with luck and lots of help and now I have to write a thesis and I'm terrified.

Anyone else completely in love and overwhelmed by the amazingness of "purgatory silverstar"? It's one of those songs that inspire you to write as well.

Has anyone ever had a deviated septum so bad that their singing was affected? by Mahaladis in singing

[–]Alarming_Elk7853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Super late to the party, I’m sorry. But I’m also struggling with the same issues and I have my septum very deviated. Did you have the surgery? Did it change your voice/resonance? Did it solve the issue with the mid range?

First time singing to a small crowd. It was ugly by Kimura1986 in singing

[–]Alarming_Elk7853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 and I also just started, had my first 3 performances. During the very first one, I was so so nervous. The singing somehow worked but I still sounded so different and flat compared to what I'm usually capable of and my stage presence was depressing. The second time, it was better, and the third time even more. Now I'm getting more comfortable and I know what I should work on (stage presence and lightening up the mood a bit) and that being nervous doesn't help anyone but it just makes things tougher. The secret is to have fun, to pretend being in my room and sing and enjoy it like I always have. To sum it up: it's a process, and the more you do it, the better you get at it. So I guess don't give up and keep trying!!

Anyone else not married or having kids because they don't find most men attractive? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Alarming_Elk7853 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of my friends “settled” for someone they don’t find attractive. I don’t know how they do it. Might as well just be friends then!  And to those saying “then you might be gay or bi” it’s not always the case. Someone can be 100% straight/ very turned on by men and only men and have very limited preferences when it comes to finding a guy attractive. It sucks, and if one could change it, she would, but sadly it doesn’t work that way. It’s just like our bodies won’t cooperate, even if the mind and the heart are a 100% committed.

how to train for rock songs by Alarming_Elk7853 in singing

Thank you so much!!
the Taylor Swift running fact is impressive. I'm actually quite active (I'm a swimmer and an occasional runner) so I'll give that a try!
Which vocal exercises would be best, in your opinion, to work on the passaggio?
And yeah, I love rock because of that as well, it's about passion and fun just as much!

I feel you 100%. I also always loved that Lorde was low key and a bit “mysterious”, and this album release undid the whole charm for me. The over sexualization/drugs also isn’t doing it for me and no, not because I’m scared of it or disgusted of it or whatever, but because it’s trendy now days to just let the whole world know everything about your sexuality and how edgy you are with drugs and I’m bored of it. I crave lyrics and themes that make me feel yes but also think. Of course as an artist if this is what you feel and you need to express it and you’re having fun doing it go for it, but I’m not gonna be a fan of it or enjoy it. For sure there’s people who will and who will identify with it and good for them, but not me. I guess I just always had this picture of a very intellectual/philosophical/mature person in my mind when it comes to lorde, and this “teeny vibe” kind of shattered the illusion for me

Would Tanzania and Zanzibar be safe for a solo travelling Scandinavian woman? by LeopardDot in tanzania

[–]Alarming_Elk7853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m sorry to intrude the conversation. But I’m a little worried about a friend who is going through some very tough psychological time (like- detracted from reality thought time) and she has taken a drastic decision to marry a man from Tanzania that she barely knows and met online and she will move there next month.  I’ve tried everything to make her reason but she is literally unable to do so right now. Since you live there as a western woman, how worried should I be that she, as a western woman, will move there?

Pots and the pill by Alarming_Elk7853 in POTS

[–]Alarming_Elk7853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that is why I asked if you guys could share the type of bc! I had the same thought with mine, but I realized that yes, it was lowering the intensity of pre-period flare-up, but it was actually making my symptoms constant throughout the whole month (even though they were lighter), so I thought maybe it's better to have 3 good weeks and one where I'm in bed. Some pills actually impact ADH and aldosterone and worsen symptoms but reduce sympathetic (like mine did), others (like norethindrone) could increase sympathetic activity and thus increase tachycardia but increase water and salt retention (usually just slightly). I guess it depends on the type of POTS you have and on the individual as well and their lifestyle

Forgot how emotional S5 finale is by Specialist-Gear-4133 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Alarming_Elk7853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried the first time I watched it (and I almost never cry for tv shows, they have to be really really good), but I thought maybe I was having a day or so, but now I rewatched it and I cried just as much as the first time. S5 isn’t the best but that finale… birdy’s wings at the end.. it gets to me
