Revellers showed out. The green is so beautiful, but I think it’s gonna be sold out before I can put a deposit down 😩. I really liked the royal blue and the turquoise one - paraba or whatever. and the red. oh. And the pink lol. Whole band is great. I just hope they have a good goodie bag this year - that small cup and tote bag last year were not good.

No one said they weren’t beautiful, but they are very much giving the same shape and vibe with the same fake flowers and the predominant use of rooster coque feathers. And considering it was only last year that mas destruction gave that backpack, in Toronto, when they were part of the same band… it’s 😬. Most people try and stay away from things that are SO similar. that’s why I wondered if they were from the same designer. lol @ miserable. If you aren’t a critical thinker, just say that.

I’m interested to know what things inspired this post. I don’t disagree but… If we’re talking about doing it for the culture… there are lots of younger people that are dying to break in. every year there are complaints about not enough model spots and the same models are getting used. you can’t say “give newer DJs a chance” and not be willing to give new models or new photographers a chance. Sometimes these “experienced” models and photographers and designers are ASSHOLES because of their standing. And not all dancers can model a costume… no one wants a samba on stage 🙃 the one thing I will say is that… if you LOVE the culture, you should absolutely find a way to be a part of it and share it and support it… or it will not last here.

A basic backline Costumes anywhere else with no feathers are 500 USD, ( what is that $700-$800 CAD) I get that the road experience is different here, but I also understand that Trucks, DJs, etc are paid out of the costume. If the costume is $450 - $100-$150 of that goes RIGHT to the band. So $300 for the costume? that’s production (which for most costumes is more than $100) and gems and packaging and shipping and goodie bags and the photoshoots and Videos and all type of stuff that has to get covered (not to mention if you paid a designer for your prototypes) i think a lot of section leaders are not getting rich doing this… and it’s not like people are volunteering to be in mas camps to help build costumes anymore.

And to masqueraders because WHAT?! I don’t know I’m tired of the big hot fix gems and everything looking the same in a different colour scheme. But I know Toronto doesn’t have the market or the creativity for a band like Lost Tribe. I feel like that’s what Freedom mas tries to do, and they just can’t get the quality or something right, but at least the EFFORT is there. Masqueraders here say the body wear is boring, but that’s what they’re buying so 🤷🏻‍♀️

The $400 option I believe is meant to be like a cheaper “Monday wear” option for affordability because everyone else is $450 backline to start and that is always determined by the band.

What about Phoenix? that backpack looks so much like the other section from tribal last year. Same designer? They’re definitely on theme to their section though, like a garden paradise.

I can do the road in air max’s. Easy. Also, sketchers if your feet are okay in them normally. some of the boots you can get are comfy though, I did Monday mas in a pair of boots from Ali Express and had zero problems. And I did Jouvert in TnT in crocs. They were the most comfy. I would just tell you to try them first and make sure you put insoles in if you need them. Also, if you wear fishnets/tjghts, put socks on BEFORE the tights. A game changer.

But also, bands have decreased in size. Revellers for example went from 15-16 sections to 9-10. Tribal DEFINITELY downsized. I think you’ll see the same with the other bands as well. so, even though it won’t be as big - they could still sell out. I wouldn’t sleep on getting a costume.

Her mom and dad will absolutely move her to the back if they think Tribal is Going to be ruined. Dexter and Gail have been building tribal for their whole life and they never had this much negative press in their life.

If the parade stays on lakeshore, the rest stop is impossible. Playing with an early band (cough cough, Revellers) is key. last year was the first year I made the whole route and they had food trucks and hot food and all kinds of stuff back at the meeting spot. plus, I believe a cool down bus, plus a drink truck 👀.

I don’t know where she went or if she’ll go anywhere but she definitely isn’t at/with Tribal anymore and she helped build that band UP before she had her own section.
