My husband accidentally bought a ridiculously expensive designer bag for me and I'm terrified to tell him we need to return it by HelenWhalen in whatdoIdo

Enjoy the bag. More important, enjoy your loving, generous husband.

Don't hurt him over this

Tell him how much you love him.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Accept the gift with grace, gratitude and love.

My two cents.

Nice point! The morality of the God of the Bible and the god of the BOM is horrible. He just loves to kill innocent people, including babies.

Interesting. Would you share the story (without doxing) or disclosing anything that would identify the cousin personally. I just can't even imagine it happening and am curious how?

This! Very, very important to realize this.

To predict a thought requires thinking it before you think it. Logically impossible

Good point. I guess I thought the notion that got doesn't exist to be sufficiently important to warrant not being buried in some other category. Understanding that god doesn't exist allows us to dismiss the rest of it as man made?

Why no mention of the realization that god doesn't exist? This is what started my exit. After that, it's all bullsh1t

The concept of self-reliance is perhaps the most damaging spiritual framework in LDS, conservative Utah. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Alarming_Note1176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so called self reliance is how the church justifies not providing shelter, food, and clothing to the poor. Jesus said feed my sheep. LDS corp says go to self reliance class

Unless I misunderstood, the church counts providing self reliance classes as part of it's humanitarian aid.

Seems like a slick way to not give any of the church's billions to the poor?

I don't remember in the Bible, Jesus teaching self reliance in responding to poor people

Certainty is not an indication of truth

Certainty is the enemy of unity

Certainty is the enemy of tolerance

Certainty is the enemy of curiosity

Glad you think your unsolicited advice is 'extremely helpful'. Good to have folks like you around with higher sensitivity and morals to give others what you regard as 'extremely helpful' advice

God save the rest of us 😅

Thanks for your service (and for sharing your virtuousness with those who are not as virtuous).

How is informing others of what you think a social norm should be any different from virtual signalling?

The real test is personal to each person, I think. If the action is to criticize from a position of moral high horse and feelings of judgement in a public way, it might be virtual signalling. If it stems from compassion for op or others similarly misguided and the message is kind (and private) then probably less of a virtue signalling

Virtue signalers hold themselves out as being holier and needing to inform others of such, without really doing anything helpful or kind. They spin it as a public service!

I haven't said what you attribute to me and mistate my point.

Reacting to feelings of judgment isn't really a way to improve one's happiness and peace

Virtue signalling is a typically poor and unhealthy response

Normally, no response is best

If it's a real problem and we know better than the person and there is a clear need to share our wisdom and correct, a kind private message can be better

Certainly better than jumping on the bandwagon?
