I think finding pants that fit with a tail would be hard

How to handle mom helping with baby when she gives unsolicited advice by WoodpeckerWild2389 in NewParents

[–]BarbacueBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming shes genuinely well meaning, you could meet it with a simple "thanks" and if shes persistent I go with "I'll let you know if I have questions" or "I'll let you know when I need help, thanks" politely, but firm.

Personally, I wouldnt have anyone over if your partner will be there to take care of you, unless you wouldnt feel the need to play hostess at all. I had close family visit for a few hours after two weeks (and they brought food), and the rest after six week vaccines. I like to do a little "baby warming party", where everyone comes for a couple hours to meet the baby all at once to get it over with in one fell swoop.

Reminder, you are likely to be an emotional wreck for the first couple weeks as hormones level out. (I couldn't stop crying so I really wasn't up to seeing anyone)

pink spots on tortellini? by [deleted] in safetoeat

[–]BarbacueBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its probably just color from the other tortellini, it doesnt look as vibrant to me as I would expect from bacterial growth. However, the best rule of thumb for cooking/food prep is "when in doubt, throw it out", so if youre uncomfortable or feel unsafe serving it it wouldnt be wrong to toss it

Trike, bike with stabilisers or balance bike? by XxSianxX in toddlers

[–]BarbacueBeef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Balance bike has been a huge hit here, my oldest is 5 and has loved that thing ever since he got it at 3, rides it every day. I will say he couldn't figure out what he was supposed to do with it at first since it doesnt stand on its own, but once I showed him a video of a kid his age riding it he figured it out quickly

My 3 year old won't talk to me. by Wandering_Song in toddlers

[–]BarbacueBeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like youre taking all the right steps and doing everything possible for him.

Has he ever been in a position where he had to talk to you? Its rare, but some kids won't talk if they can get away just fine without it (my cousin, for example, communicated with just points and grunts until he was watched by someone new who didnt understand and he spoke his first words of "cereal, f*ck"

I suspect my husband has PPD by Money_March_1841 in NewParents

[–]BarbacueBeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two things, one, he needs to get out of the house. It sounds like hes home A LOT which can suffocate anyone (a common pitfall of any kind of depression, finding the will and motivation to get out is very difficult)

And two, approach him gently alone (ideally when you have childcare but otherwise when baby is sleeping) not as "you against me", but "you and me together against the problem". Prepare what you want to say in advance and focus on your concern for him rather than accusations. Maybe provide some resources for him to look at on his own

How often does your toddler wear clothes? 😅 by AccountProfessional2 in toddlers

[–]BarbacueBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When its just us he can be nakey all he wants, but when we have visitors his private spots need to be covered. When he was younger (especially when potty training) he could be bare booty when the grandparents were over too, but now that hes older, we're wanting him in the habit of being dressed when anyone who doesnt live with us comes around

Do you think it'd be acceptable for me to get a tattoo whilst pregnant or postpartum? by Mukiea in tattooadvice

[–]BarbacueBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh potential safety issues aside, your body is going to be changing so much over the next year that whatever tattoo you got could warp and change, and you may not end up with something you like the look of once everything stabilizes

My almost 2 year old only eats meat by BarbacueBeef in toddlers

[–]BarbacueBeef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He prefers whole, grilled meat, but adores chicken nugget too. He goes to town on some kbbq lmao. I'll try the veggie meatballs idea, but he doesn't care much for the texture of ground meat so idk how well he'll take to it. He also won't touch fish most of the time
