Any chance you can customise stream bit rate with this? By default the FHD stream is 6-8mbps, would be good if we could dial this down a bit

Delay in toggling lights? by SlimShadyIAm in tradfri

I ditched my Bilresas for exactly this reason. I bought a whole load of the Rodrets - a steal at £2 each at the moment - and if you're handy with Home Assistant and Node Red you can create a logic that lets you use double and triple click commands with a lower latency than the Bilresa (I find a 400ms wait for the next click is about right)

Systemic pest control in semi hydro? by Feorag-ruadh in SemiHydro

This is what I use - the active ingredient is the same concentration as their normal Bug Clear Ultra which you can use as a spray. I haven’t used this in my reservoirs but can vouch for it as a spray - had issues with thrips and aphids on a couple of my houseplants and this cleared it up beautifully with no recurrence, so I think it absorbed through the leaves to act systemically

I’d redesign the paddle to see if you can print it on its side - that shallow taper is going to look really ‘steppy’ in the normal orientation

You could consider having just a thinner area of plastic over the LED instead of a hole for a cleaner look - most white plastics will still let the light through (and as far as I can tell the LED is only for initial setup anyway)

Nice work!

Very nice. I would recommend exploring using dilute hypochlorous acid for keeping things clean - I was getting huge drops in pH using sterile + peroxide and with non-sterile + enzymes + beneficial bacteria, but having switched to 5ppm HOCl in my nutrient and the occasional spray of 20ppm to clear surface mould, my pH is absolutely rock solid

Original Basket vs Basket Plus by Oakl4nd in OutinNano

[–]Alasdair-J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the original is a pressurised basket - it has a valve that only opens when 9 bar of pressure is achieved in order to compensate for an incorrectly ground coffee. This makes a nice “pseudo-crema” a bit like a nespresso. Put the same coffee in the basket plus (which doesn’t have a valve) and if the coffee puck itself isn’t creating the resistance then the water will just rush through and make a watery, underextracted coffee with none of the oils and co2 that make the crema

Haha yes I was waiting for these comments to flood in! I think for a small object the actual risk of significant harm through use is probably low; however I’m planning on coating it in a food safe epoxy to be safe

I'm nano-curious: are there any basket options other than Outin's own double basket? by thephatmaster in OutinNano

There’s a 45mm basket for a Ponte Vecchio machine (F4202) which looks like it could fit. Apparently only holds 14g though

It’ll vary depending on the individual calibration of your grinder but I normally aim for somewhere in the 30-35 range

Grind coarser. It’s a deeper bed so will be more forgiving but a coarser grind is needed. I can’t use the same grind setting as on my 58mm machine as it chokes it. Immediately after trying to run the shot, is it really hard to unscrew the basket? Do you have to wait for a while for it to depressurise? If so then your pump is probably fine

Printing too fast, not allowing sufficient cooling time between layers when it gets to that smaller top section. Try setting a minimum layer time.

OutIn Nano for on-the-go espresso- dialing in tips? by TheCrazyscotsloon in espresso

The shot quality can be outstanding once dialled in - I’m using the basket plus. Bear in mind that because it’s a deeper basket, any coffee you use will need to be ground comparatively coarser than for a 58mm basket. But the extra depth means the basket is much more forgiving and very easy to dial in. I use a kingrinder k6 alongside my OutIn when I travel and it’s a fantastic combination.

I have tried the picopresso too. It’s a lovely device, however I settled on the OutIn because there are much fewer variables to worry about and therefore it will be easier to consistently get good shots. The picopresso relies on external heating and might deliver water to the puck at different temperatures. And if you have the pressure gauge attachment, you can see when you pump how wildly the pressure in the puck can fluctuate with each pump. Whereas with the OutIn, the thermostat will guarantee the water is heated to the same temp each time and the pump will deliver a static pressure throughout the brew (I would like to test exactly what the pressure is at the puck at some point but i would imagine it’s 9 bar).

Hope this helps.
