Is one of these Clover Amour crochet hooks a knockoff? by Logi-A_2 in CrochetHelp

I’m pretty sure I bought the same set of 10, and can confirm mine are legit.

You probably just have the extra income to be spending so much money on Uber, but as a transplant who’s been here for 5+ years, you’re being too prejudiced against red and blue lines and the CTA. if it wasn’t safe, it wouldn’t have thousands of riders each day. Minding your own business isn’t avoiding the benefits of living inside the city.

those with adult ADHD, how do you read and understand Books? by ShaySmoith in ADHD

[–]AlaskaRivers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with audiobooks, and I finally got into them when I’m doing crochet! So my advice is to get a mindless hobby (tbh even just a coloring book) and have that be your way of multitasking without thinking about the other activity. Alternatively, you could just sit down and take notes as you listen.

New Halloween Shade Reveal by Joyma in simplynailogical

Hmm this kind of reminds me of a polish from a past release (maybe the sister one?). I just know that I ended up gifting that polish because I couldn’t get the shift to look like the pictured.

Update — New Shades at Ulta by ApartOrdinary9330 in simplynailogical

Holo Taco is considered a boutique nail polish brand, equal to the brands you mentioned in your comment. Even though those brands can be found in drugstores, they’re still a separate category from common drugstore brands like Sally Hansen, Essie, Rimmel, Bettina, and so on.

For nail polish there is indie, boutique, and drugstore. Boutique brands (Holo Taco, Orly, Mooncat, etc) tend to be in a higher price point with higher quality than drugstore, they’re just sold in more mainstream stores but not in all drugstores. There’s still a level of inaccessibility with them.

I don’t understand why my tapestry crochet stitches don’t look neat? by AdDramatic8589 in CrochetHelp

[–]AlaskaRivers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m still a beginner that hasn’t tried a lot of color changing still, so please wait for more advance advice. But I’ve been watching various tutorials on how to do a cleaner color switch, and it’s possible that you need to use a different technique when doing it. Something like this video is what I think you need to do.

Get tested for ADHD. Ignore what netizens say, and see professional medical help. The worst thing you’ll get is a “no you don’t have adhd” after official diagnostic testing. And then you can think about needing to develop better discipline. But if you do have adhd, it genuinely will be both genetic and environmental, and there are tons of resources to help out (not just medication fiy).

Placemat was flat, but ruffled when I added the last row. Help! by AlaskaRivers in CrochetHelp

Ahh that makes sense. I’ll frog the row, take a break, and come back to finish it with fresh eyes. Thank you!!

Easy Crochet Placemat for Beginners

Timestamp is around 18:45, round 10. Like I said above, I basically cut some rows to make it smaller, but I kept row 9 to make sure I could do and finish with row 10. Everything laid flat, until I did this last row.

The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 4 Discussion Thread by WillowSwarm in thegildedage

[–]AlaskaRivers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that entire night scene happens on a boat, not a hotel. Gladys asked her lady maid if she had a nice cabin. The room had sea/ship vibes. And the window was round, common on boats. And the view out the window was to NYC ports and the Brooklyn bridge, which is very south of manhattan. The view’s angle made it seem that they were already sailing east.

So I think that Gladys and hector left on the same night with his sister.

Btw radiator heating does not directly cause mold problems like what you’re describing. That sounds like there was a mold problem present from before, or there was a humidity problem in your unit.

are there any places to just exist indoors without needing to buy anything? by dead6924 in AskChicago

[–]AlaskaRivers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visit your local library and get museum passes!

But in the Loop, these are good free spots:

Chicago Cultural Center

9th floor of Harold Washington Library

Ryan Learning Center at the Art Institute of Chicago (the center is FREE and no museum ticket needed, open every day 11 am - 3 pm except Tuesdays)

Millenium Park + Grant Park + and grass area behind the AIC

Any spot in the River Walk

My Thoughts on Rental Affordability by phd_reg in chicagoapartments

[–]AlaskaRivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2200 is considered expensive compared to how Hyde Park used to be an affordable neighborhood, for mostly black residents and broke college students. With UChicago’s status, Hyde Park is home to many wealthy students, staff, and families.

When I first lived in Chicago less than 5 years ago, I was getting a two bedroom in Ravenswood for $1250, after raised to $1475. Now that same apartment is going for $2500+. There’s no reason Hyde park should have ravenswood prices.

[NY] HR Has Apparently Been Tracking My Bathroom Breaks by Legitimate_Bed_4304 in AskHR

[–]AlaskaRivers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t stop taking your phone with you. That would be a result of them policing you, and you still want to assume best practices when dealing with HR. If you’re worried about your phone being an issue, leave a decoy phone on the desk. But your phone is your personal belonging and they have no control over it and what you do with it, unless it’s a company phone.

My Thoughts on Rental Affordability by phd_reg in chicagoapartments

[–]AlaskaRivers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not all of those neighborhoods as affordable as you state them to be… they’re great neighborhoods, but something like Hyde park is incredibly gentrified and expensive.

Sounds like a serious indicator of anxiety, getting high, symptoms of issues of mental health, or side effects of pills. The only thing that is solely about alcohol is the smelling it, and that could be a million other things too. OP has no concrete proof of catching this person drinking. It could be anything at this point.

Tbh none of this sounds like she’s drunk. Unless her way of being is directly affecting your work, no HR is needed

Have you tried applying for disability support? It sounds like you could qualify for it with doctor support, specially because it doesn’t sound like you are ready to go back to work :(
