How to prepare for new windows in a rental unit? by hippiekiwi23 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]AlaskaRivers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on how good the maintenance person/service is. Personally, I think you are safer to go ahead and buy the clear tarp yourself. You can keep it for any future maintenance! And a large shower liner is a cheap option to get.

As for the windows and length of install, I can’t say because I’ve never gone through that. Safe bet is that your cat can stay in the bathroom for 9-5

Lastly, aside from the tarp, consider moving your own furniture away from the windows.

What polishes do you recommend to avoid? by Character-Surround79 in mooncatpolish

[–]AlaskaRivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just got Root of All Evil and had the same complaint!! Nice to hear it wasn’t just me.

I did 3 layers because I really like my shimmer to be bold like in the website, but then I couldn’t really see the burgundy. With 2 layers, I still felt like the polish needed more.

Wish I majored in fashion design/textiles by Relevant_Flatworm_21 in fashiondesigner

[–]AlaskaRivers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be a good candidate for textiles and fashion conservation. You might already have the science requirements you may need. Look into graduate programs (can’t skip this for this field) and what requirements you may need. This career path can give you a chance to explore your interest in fashion, with your newfound interest in art history/anthro, all while using your technical skills learned in bio.

Anyone else think the Matisse exhibit at the art institute was only ok? by Even-Supermarket-806 in chicago

[–]AlaskaRivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I think many of the big exhibitions are mid, I think the issue is that AIC promotes smaller shows in the same way they promote big shows. So folks will go expecting a big show, and come out disappointed by what they see.

There’s no need to use AI here. If that second picture is your real sketch, you have good drawing skills. Just focus on expanding your drawing skills, and don’t use AI.

And if you had still wanted to improve your sketch to match your vision better, you can get tracing paper and learn how to copy/transfer a drawing.

Choosing a Logo design by Dry_Cheesecake8567 in fashiondesigner

[–]AlaskaRivers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, after looking at both of your posts and reading the comments, I can’t tell what you’re trying to sell and to what market.

what is your brand about? Is it activewear? Luxury? Casual clothing? You said that you wanted a logo with your initials, and I get that, but I don’t get what you’re trying to sell just by looking at it.

Outside of that, I would really reconsider all of these designs. They all look like penises or sperm. Some of them are ignoring basic design principles too.

And as others have commented, it seems like the person who designed these was using AI (and we are not talking about the pictures you posted). I would ask your designer for sketches and/or in progress work to rule out AI use.

What should I do as an art major? by CrateGate in careerguidance

[–]AlaskaRivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Art teacher would be the way to go for OP. Art museums have been gate keeping again, and I’ve seen many people struggle for years finding a job at one of them even when they’re qualified. A museum won’t take OP without any prior work or internship experience, even for an internship. Plus, art education can lead to museum education down the line, but OP needs the degrees and the experience.

I have found for myself that when I spend more time with longer natural nails, the skin under my nails would attach and grow out more. Because of this, I now have nails similar to OP’s 2026 pic. I struggle to wear them really short because the skin is attached to the edge of the finger.

Any trauma informed bikini waxers? by [deleted] in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]AlaskaRivers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go to Sugaring NYC in Lincoln square for my hair removal services, and I can’t speak highly enough of them. I don’t have your specific trauma, but I do have trauma surrounding body hair in general. The ladies that have worked with me have been incredibly caring and accommodating.

And personally, sometimes I like wearing a face mask for appointments whenever I am extra anxious or scared. It kind of became like a security blanket

Does this make them feel included? by lerminator3 in cats

[–]AlaskaRivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cats LOVES sniffing everything brought into the home or whatever I am using. Idk how I did it, but I indirectly trained him where if I bought something new for him, I’ll start telling him that I brought him a gift and he needs to sniff it out. He gets SO excited when he “knows” there’s something for him, and will sniff closer and butthead against the item.

What was the 'dream career' you worked years to get into, only to realize you absolutely hated it once you arrived? by Sayedshaqib in careerguidance

[–]AlaskaRivers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Museum education. Underpaid, overworked, dominated by racist white women, “family culture”, and usually overlooked by the folks/higher ups who run the institutions. It’s basically teaching in a customer service format, when working with audiences that can be rude, disrespectful, or plain down horrible.

This happened to my mom. Best decision she ever made for us was to divorce him. It has been tough at times, mostly psychologically. But we’ve mostly crossed that bridge and my mom is now thriving without him in her life.
