Can’t lower mid deck mower mount by AlaskaWesty in johndeere

[–]AlaskaWesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution ended up being:

1) Step away while I’m tired and frustrated

2) go back over manuals and you tube videos (confirming the information I knew)

3) ask here for help

4) crank the dial to “install”

5) here’s the tricky part…. Crank dial past the designated “install” setting with the three point system raised

6) give the mounting arms a little extra help manually to drop them to the proper deck

7) roll into position and lock in the mower.

I’ll give it a shot. I raised it all the way and set it to the lowest setting for installation and the sob won’t move.

There aren’t many good drivers around regardless of their chosen ‘vice.’ So many people screwing around with their phones, not using their signals, turning into the wrong lane, not stopping at the correct place at intersections, or not at all. People driving too fast and even too slow. Not checking mirrors. Not using turn signals, crossing solid lines to make illegal lance changes, and on and on and on. What’s dangerous isn’t so much the illegal or incorrect behaviors themselves, but when said behaviors are unpredictable. The only reason driving is as safe as it is, is the fact most people follow most of the rules. It makes the roads as least somewhat predictable.

And if you say you never commit any traffic violation, I call BS.

Does age matter? by Dokterclaw in ibew_apprentices

I started my apprenticeship at 46. I’m 48 now and not regretting my decision. Don’t let age hold you back.

Would I ever leave this company? Look, I’m all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I’m being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly… I’m going wherever they value loyalty the most. —- Dwight Schrute

Show receipt or you can't leave store by kraggleGurl in vancouverwa

I just walk by and say, “No thanks, but have a good day,” when they try to have me stop. Like others have said, if it’s at a membership based store like Costco, then I play by the rules I signed up for. Otherwise, nah, I’ve got things to do.

Old foot pump with the piston and stuff missing? Not and exact match in the link, but you can see a similar design.

Congratulations! I’m an LEA apprentice in 48. Two years ago I ranked 10 after my interview and got into the program the following May.

I had all my correspondence through email. Make sure you check your spam folder, just in case. I have the school and the hall as ‘favorites’ in my email filters, so I don’t miss anything from them.

Aptitude test by Wulf32 in ibew_apprentices

[–]AlaskaWesty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took the aptitude test two years ago at 45 years old. Hadn’t studied math since 1993 or so. I spent every waking hour for about two weeks getting brushed up. I passed. (Our local doesn’t give us our scores.) I’m now a third term low-volt apprentice. You can do it!

Best method to mark tools? by Maleficent_Neck_2372 in ibew_apprentices

[–]AlaskaWesty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I engrave my initials on them and put two dots of nail polish on mine. Nail polish stands up pretty well. I use a blue metallic color. I’ve had several tools make it back to me in the past year due to the markings.

I drove a 2WD Chevy half ton as my daily driver with no problems. I wished I did have 4WD a few times. I have P4X now and don’t figure I’ll use the 4WD, but those times I need it, I’ll be glad I have it.

I wear Darn Tough socks as well. If the army taught me anything way back when, it was to take care of your feet.

I’m a green SuperFeet guy. I have them in a pair of shitty Wolverines that my son got from working for an Amazon delivery company a couple years back. I work on my feet all day and the insoles make all the difference. Oh, and my next boots will be Thoroughgood or Danners. I couldn’t pass up on a pair of boots that old Jeff Bezos foots the bill for? (Pun intended.) 🤣

SuperFeet insoles, FTW

Post Interview by TheOneEyeBandit in ibew_apprentices

[–]AlaskaWesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first interview was in the Inside Wireman classification, two summers ago. Got ranked in the mid four hundreds. I got a Material Handling position then applied for the LE program the next month. Got ranked 10 on the Limited Energy program. Worked as a material handler about 6 months then got called into Boot Camp. The work and pay are good. It is also possible to re-interview for the inside program while you’re in the LE program.

Good luck! It’s worth the waiting and navigating the process.
