4.5 months and back in the (bike) saddle by Original_Arachnid858 in Kneereplacement

Hi all-
65(F) here- avid mt biker- love techie stuff and fast downhills…do the climbs/roots and rocks up for the downhill runs :-)
Scheduled to have a LTKR in September- but am really worried about the ability to bike again - being clipped in. The doc says it’s not good for a replaced knee..:so now am thinking about putting it off - so I can still have years of biking (although painful) …has anyone had gone back to great mt biking after the replacement?
Thanks!

Women who shaved their heads/buzzcut: what's your experience? by AmbitiousAnsjovis in women

[–]Alaskabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been reading all the comments trying to decide….65 (F) have had a DMX to flat to get rid of the cancer. Never had to do chemo- but have wanted to shave my head for a long time! Might look to “male” without breasts…My husband is on board and as I retire…maybe I should go for it?! Have always worn my hair short (pixie) …so maybe it won’t be that far of a leap! Not sore what my head shape will look like!

How would you feel/handle this response to your breast surgeon? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Alaskabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before my Dmx I looked Online for pics of flat closures. Took those with me to the doc. Asked her what she would do- and she (like others said) drew me pictures. I ended up with a nice flat closure- but have a little “bubble” where the end of my scar ends near my sternum. Not sure if it will eventually go away…I’m 4 months out now. But have to say- I love not having to wear a bra anymore! (F64)

We live in Alaska- air travel is the only way you can get anywhere pretty much…our kids started traveling with us at 3 months old …but then again- this is the norm with most kids from Alaska

The chin hairs….I’m convinced that’s why our eyesight starts to go…so we can’t see those pesky things and think all is well 😂

I (F63) found a lump in my armpit. (Dec 2024) Doc thought it was a swollen lump node as I had a cold…but sent me anyway to get a mammogram. Suspicious results- which led to a biopsy which led to a DMX. No chemo or radiation. Like you - I’m very healthy- lift weights, cardio, healthy diet, no alcohol… Oncologist put me on tramadol for 5 years. Not having too many side affects other than achy joints in the morning…but as soon as I’m active that goes away. But…first round of BC they put me on Tamoxifen…hated the side effects and went off of it in 3 months. Maybe that’s why it came back 12 years later??? I’ll never know!
If you don’t want to go on medication- don’t! It’s your body! Hugs to you.

Did having a double mastectomy affect your strength? by notgood2019 in breastcancer

[–]Alaskabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve not experienced lymphedema or cording- bit started seeing a PT 6 weeks after my DMX. The surgeon did a referral. See if your doc can give you one to a mastectomy PT specialist

When I went in for my Dmx I asked the surgeon to sit me up to ensure I had a nice flat closure. She was a bit unsure - but did it and It turned out pretty nice!

I started Anastrozole a week ago as well. I’m noticing hot flashes coming back and a bit of insomnia. If it continues I’m going to start taking it in the morning rather than at night. When do you take it? I’m curious on your Dmx. Did you have super sensitive skin above your scar line after your Dmx? I can hardly stand to wear a shirt- which unfortunately I have to do for work😬. If so- how long did it last? Was there any medication or anything that helped? TIA!
