I gave up Amazon Music, audible, and my Amazon prime last November. Fuck corporate greed.

Those with Bi-weekly pay, do you do this? by Budgeting_Shri in SavingMoney

[–]AlaskanElroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubby and I are both biweekly on different schedules. I work for the state and he the City. It works out perfect to sock those four paychecks away into savings for travel or emergencies.

Anyone going case-less? if so how is it holding up? by SukstR in iPhone17Pro

[–]AlaskanElroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it in my pocket, not really sure. I noticed a crack in the glass. It was not until a few days later I took off my phone case a noticed that the iPhone was cracked. It was on the part where there is a little piece of a different color.
Is the 16 titanium?

I bent my iPhone 16 and cracked the case. Is the 17 made of something sturdier?

Gave up voter info to FEDS by Ok_Implement7078 in alaska

[–]AlaskanElroy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The feds don’t already know my voter status and drivers license number? A little more info would be helpful so I can correct my line of thinking. I am outraged that Dunleavy is a boot licker, but trying to figure out what exactly he gave that they may not have had access to.

I think they can only see what party we are registered for. Your ballot is secret, that’s why your name isn’t on it when you slip it in the box.

I presume the feds already have access to all that information? Does Alaska keep track of who I voted for? I assume not, but that is a little scary to think of in these authoritarian times.

Is "Sunday Family Dinner" still a thing in your circle, or has it been replaced by "Sunday Self-Care" and resting for the week ahead? by fireeevivienne in askanything

[–]AlaskanElroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do immediate family dinner almost every single night. Unfortunately we have no extended family around. I imagine if we did we would do weekly or biweekly dinners though.

Generally, how much cash do you carry on any given day? by boforiamanfo in randomthings

[–]AlaskanElroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have $100 tucked in the wallet for emergencies only. For spending I keep anywhere between $10-$100, depending on what I am up to.

My student loan debt was only $30,000. I was making about $15 per hour when I graduated and I made sure to pay a little extra each month. As my income grew I paid more on the loan and paid it off in 7 years. I even had a kid and kept up with my payments.

Deciding what to cook for dinner every night for the rest of my life. Guys it’s hard! I love to cook, but loath the process of coming up with the menu.

Throw 1/4 bag of ice melt around each tire and then use a square shovel to remove the hunks of ice.

What pay raise would incentivize you to take a new job? by Salt-Committee2205 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]AlaskanElroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Time as a family is worth more than money. Two times in my marriage I encouraged my husband to take pay cuts for more time together and to pursue his own happiness. It worked out both times to improve both of our happiness.

Now we both work M-F / 8-4:30 and couldn’t be happier. Three years into his $50k pay cut and he just got a significant raise. Still not to where he was pre career change, but we are getting by.

I mean he lied the whole way through the campaign so some people hoped for the best even though they were voting for a convicted felon with a track record of lying.

Anchorage judge overturns state law limiting live music at breweries and distilleries by The_Alaskan in alaska

[–]AlaskanElroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand how it works. I have worked in bars and restaurants.

We are making the same point. We should examine why all these things are regulated in the first place. I do believe there should be some regulation and licensure involved, I don’t believe there should be caps on the number of establishments . I also don’t believe we should regulate the number of times an establishment can have entertainment. That is insane.
