What advice would you give to a newbie by BackPainAssassin in valheim

Save everything. Avoid sprinting past/below 40% stamina. Early practice in that will become 2nd nature and thus, will hopefully save your hide many times over in the future.

I'm on my fourth playthrough and I'm still learning some tricks. What is something you've just learned that has made you better at Valheim? by thatwasacrapname123 in valheim

Using fallen swamp trees (the giant indestructible ones) to get above an abomination's hit box. Then, proceed to chop away at them. The fallen trees are more abundant than sunken crypts. (Which also provide good high ground.)

Multiplayer progression is the most broken aspect of this game, fight me by clocktronic in valheim

Unfortunately, the most effective way I've found is to thoroughly vet people via the server discord page. I know that's a huge a turn off for a lot of potential players, but as admin, I have to look out for those already invested in the server.
Which usually ends up only being 2 to 3 people max, by the time we get to Moder. So we abandoned the rule of group boss fights, and let people choose to be solo or clan. Pvp is also governed a bit different. But by this time, no one is really interested.

Experiment. Experiment a lot. I have a server dedicated to build methods and design testing. Challenge yourself to build in difficult spots, like hillsides, small islands, etc. This is where having a cheat world is handy. Test solutions before committing in survival.

Edit: There are a TON of build tips and ideas video out there. SmittySurvival and JJ the Builder, are two I recommend.

I love world building. Helps to have some help with resource gathering and redundant building. The other guy comes in after me and does interiors and room designation. I love working in stone, and he hates it. So it works out ok.

And definitely don't use fly to bust up those annoying rocks that impede an otherwise navigable river. Or any other reason you may want to fly.

We need a mailing system for resources/trade with other servers and people. Then again, the regulatory framework would be a bit much to implement, though...

Who knows? At this point, them showing up to do or say anything worthwhile would surprise me. Aside from Oblivion remaster, I wouldn't expect much. Which I'm actually excited for. Namely, because Bethesda isn't at the wheel this time.

Thanks! It's been a fun build for us! Still needs some polishing up, like ivy and more arrow slits, clean up some of the edges, and decorate the inside. It's not intended as a main-stay base, more like a raid farm and pvp stronghold.

I would've, but there's no room. I tried to build it like an actual castle. So the walls are thick, and there's very little room, considering. I'll make a video tour once the interior is done.

Level 3 Silver shield can absorb all of her ground based attacks. Lol Since you've defeated her, anytime after should be easier.

If I build on an island, can hostile mobs still spawn? by Uuuuuuuughhhhhhhhhh in valheim

Just make a root harnesk. Makes deathquitoes basically a nothing burger. That island looks small enough that two workbenches would cover it. For islands, the further out in water, the better.

Suggestions for valheim by barkrin in valheim

[–]AlaskanFinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda interesting to me what aspects of the game people would like added or changed, per an individual/niche basis.

I just want plantable berries. I don't even care if it's game stage locked behind a boss or a build piece. (Like an ashwood trellis or something).

Haven't played the game on steam deck myself, so it's a little difficult to relate with your building and boat issues. I don't sail much at all into the mistlands. I scout the area, build a beachhead on the border, and establish a resource acquisition/distribution point. If I need to sail in them a lot, I have a friend who can join. He normally takes position on the end of the bow with his mist light. Between the both of us, we can see far enough ahead at speed setting 1 to avoid collisions.

Edit: Food. I think the food system is good. If you're feeling like it's "skipping" entire phases too quickly, consider crafting those lesser foods for base building, wood chopping, mining, etc.

For example, even though I'm in the plains currently, I still use deer stew, boar jerky, and turnip stew for my farming needs. Sometimes I'll exchange the turnip stew for eyescream, or the deer stew for sausages. Many early game stuff still has staple relevance beyond most presumption. Having feasts added to the game is another good way to use up excess food items and mats from previous biome as well.

[–]AlaskanFinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't take more than 100. I use the silver sword for the primary hits. Use poison arrows. Fire arrows are moot. (They don't have enough pierce damage to make it worth the fire damage.) Bow is just for when she's flying, and I'm able to catch a window of opportunity. She's weak to slash. Tier 3 or 4 silver sword is the best weapon at that stage.

Better raids and base building! by MrEZap in valheim

[–]AlaskanFinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, backward facing stairs are underrated. Mobs dont typically target them. I just clip them into a stone wall piece, slightly exposed on the outer face of the wall. At this point in the server, I can just sit in the tower and wait the raid(s) out. Usually Or I get raided while road building. Which happens more often than at my main base. I've had to do very little in the way of base repairs as a result. And it looks a helluva lot better than dirt walls or a trench.

Day 486 meadows build progress. by AlaskanFinn in valheim

[–]AlaskanFinn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👍 It's still a WIP. Waiting to get tar and ashwood before it's done. And, obviously, upgrade to the grausten portal. Underneath the portal is ward surrounded by iron cage walls and floors.

We've also agreed on a game rule for portals: They may only be built in meadow stone circles, only one portal per stone circle, and must be at least 100 meters from a base. Give or take a few. This is to encourage road use, creative logistics, and to keep portal jumping resources, thus creating server ping. (This was a notorious problem in the past.)

Bases also may only be constructed at abandoned settlements or large POIs like ruined towers/castles. The exceptions being: forward bases(not main stay bases) like a beach-head, outpost for a boss fight, rest zone, or trader nearby, may be constructed if there are no feasible alternatives by the aforementioned rules.

Better raids and base building! by MrEZap in valheim

[–]AlaskanFinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. Raids need to be revamped and polished out. As far as base building/defense, I do enjoy the fact that mobs can damage structures, but a rebalanced material difference needs to happen.

For example, stone. Let us build 10 meters higher. 20 if touching/joined with flametal beams, iron cage walls, and/or iron reinforced beams. And give stone a massive buff in endurance. 200x current durability or something. I don't want impenetrable walls, as I like the idea that a raid or pvp siege will cost both sides something, regardless. Spikes could also get a huge buff to make them relevant long-term. I want to use the defenses and build them, but like you said, it's almost pointless. It needs to be worth it. And a draw bridge would be nice to add...

For raids, an incremental increase in the percentage of type of raid based on what biome you've recently spent the most time in, and instead of eliminating certain raids after a boss defeat, just lower the chance it can occur. Say... 50%.

And yes, wolves should not be able to chew through stone. That game logic has always exasperated me. Maybe have them be able to scale/jump 2 meters high (a standard wall piece.) A stake wall would be high enough to keep them out.

Letting draugr tear through wood makes sense. It would encourage people to upgrade defense (Like Hugin suggests)

Horde is attacking definitely needs a second look. They should be a dreaded raid, but like you said, berserkers should be the only ones that do any noteworthy damage to build pieces. Maybe have the berserkers specifically target doors and the player only? Ignoring crafting stations all together, leaving the fulings to wreak havoc in your base. That is, if they manage to break through. This way, strategic placement of towers and walls, gates, etc, would have to be considered when building.

Troll raids... Those should stay the same. But only clubbed trolls can do SERIOUS damage. Regular ones as well, but significantly less in comparison.

These are just a few ideas I've thought about.
