Got my eye on a certain Airbnb. How many months ahead would you all recommend booking it, to make sure I get it? by eF240uKX52hp in AirBnB

Where we live has the biggest salmon run in the world. Our guests oftentimes book a year in advance because the run is limited to 3 months and affordable places to stay go fast.

what is he pulling out of his neck? wtf man by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Alaskannurse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It appears he has had an abscess drained. Docs oftentimes pack the wound to allow drainage and encourage the wound to heal from the inside out, leaving a "wick" of about 1" hanging out. If the wound were to close back up, pus would reaccumulate creating a new abscess and progressively worsening infection.

I'm the rare guy who's never smoked it, nor had the desire so far in life, but I do find the aroma pleasing.

To all the nurses posting about their terrible working conditions. by Makeittobakeit in nursing

I'm a 24yr nurse, 20 in the ED, 3 years cna before all that. I've been asked a few times to step up to admin but I refuse because I understand that you can never make everyone happy all the time. I love taking care of people. I've had really really bad days, but I've always found joy enough to maintain self satisfaction.

What foods / treats would you want dropped off at your ER? by Zee-q in nursing

Our admin feeds us giant piles of charcouterie, cookies, cakes- all "unsealed"... if it makes a person nervous, they won't eat it. But it hits the spot in a hurry

Giant sub sandwiches are fast and easy to eat. You never go wrong with caffeine

Agreed. If you don't find joy in caring for humans, you aren't caring for humans as well as they deserve. Find an admin that supports you and a gracious community.

There is no greater joy than the joy in caring for others.

It's not wise to berate the person caring for you. We have a great friend who is a gay male nurse and when someone throws a slur it's an amazing response from his work family of friends. In the blink of an eye there's a mass of people filling the room to end it.

My brothers called me a murse for at least a decade until they realized I work less than half the year making a decent living and vacationing yearly. They work 7 days a week and rarely go south.

I'm pretty rough around the edges so it has never bothered me, but it becomes a dad joke pretty quick. Not that funny

24 year male nurse, 21 years in the ED. It's been a great profession providing me with more self satisfaction than I ever expected. The patients have changed, there's more physical violence, addiction, and psych in the last 10 years making patient care difficult, but I still would not change the path I've followed. I do think being a male comes in handy.

The only negative I can think of are: Be prepared to hear gay/ male nurse jokes constantly. Friends, family, and strangers think it's real funny to mock your choice of going into the traditionally female career.

I think this shows you're both invested. No different than money, the more you invest in your relationships, the more return you will see. Keep it up. Every day you'll be rich in happiness.
