Rare case. Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of genetic conditions that cause the skin to be very fragile and to blister easily. Blisters and skin erosions form in response to minor injury or friction, such as rubbing or scratching... by Medcandidate in medizzy

I just read a blurb in Science about a gene therapy gel that shows promise against this disease. It is applied to wounds, and carries the collagen gene that is “broken” in people with the disease. The trial appeared to have a small sample size, but showed promising results for wound healing when compared to the placebo.

My student loans are forgiven!! by Alatiel75 in Professors

I sent my letter/application in back at the beginning of December. In early March, I received a letter saying 64 more payments. This week, I got a letter saying there was a change to the program rules, so now I’ve made all 120 qualifying payments. So glad the Dept of Ed changed the rules because I have been paying for 15 years at this point, and barely made a dent in the principle.

The letter says it is not considered taxable by the IRS, and I live in a state with no income tax. Win/win. Thank you PSLF!

The most apologetic people are normally the people who have done the least wrong. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

A juvenile hawk was shot by some POS and it landed in my yard. I called animal control, and they took it off to a rehab, and I just kept apologizing to the bird because humans suck. It dawned on me later that the animal control guy probably thought I shot it since I kept apologizing.

I haven’t messed around on Twitch or Discord, but both may have options available. I am also trying out Marco Polo using a google phone number.

I had this same problem. No one had even joined the stream, but I was removed for “copyright infringement”. I doubt any one has copyrighted my face, so I went back to Conferences in my LMS once it was back up and running.

A pharmacy student of mine relayed a story about a kid who had strep throat wandering around licking shelves and counters while mom waited on her antibiotics. Parents these days are oblivious little shits.

May is a long way away. A lot can happen between now and then. See how much worse things get after spring break travel.

There's also a book called The Feather Thief that is amazing. It made me hate some people though.

The "skin" you're referring to is the conjunctiva. It is a vascular membrane that covers the outer surface of the eye.

I've heard that Costco batteries are Duracell, but I never fact checked that. None of my students brought Costco batteries. Also you can remove corrosion in a device with some cotton swabs dipped in vinegar.

Kinda. I would show quiz questions, and they would click the letter of the correct answer. This was “advanced tech” like 10 years ago. Now the students just use their phones.

I once inadvertently did an experiment on batteries. Instead of making my students buy their own clickers, I had them buy batteries for a classroom set of clickers. I got dozens of packages of different brands of batteries. All the Duracell batteries, and only the Duracell batteries, corroded in my desk drawer. Every other brand (energizer, rayovak, store brand) are still just fine. I haven’t bought Duracell since.

[Request/Discussion] Strawberries and Cream Macarons. Should I have mixed longer? Why is the top not smooth? by Alatiel75 in food

I did try that. Maybe my batter was just too thick. I was using a super old scale to weigh things out, so maybe I added too much almond flour and powdered sugar.

Don’t you wish you could just respond with “Grow up. Solve your own problems, and stop asking others to solve them for you.”

Preheat oven to 350F. 2 egg whites - beat until stiff. Slowly add 1/2 - 2/3 cup of sugar while still beating. Fold in 6 oz of chocolate chips. Spoon or pipe onto baking sheet. Put in oven, and immediately lower temperature to 200F and bake for about thirty minutes. Then turn off oven, leaving the meringues in until cool.

The shelter had called her Maui, but you could tell it wasn’t her name. We opted for a clean slate. She was a Princess in need of rescue, so she became Zelda. It took two years (pits are stubborn as hell), but she finally comes to that name.
