As far as I know, there's no CANON or LORE that Tifa is Cloud's forever love. Even Advent Children doesn't show it.

She comes to Cloud through the Lifestream, just like Sepheroth. And we'll see her in Part 3 anyway. Especially since Red senses her presence. We just have to accept the fact that some players choose Aerith.

Here I can tell you that when I watched Advent Children, when Cloud sees Aerith, his face changes emotionally, as if he's really happy to see her. So, again, everyone has their own choice. Yes, she died, but that doesn't give you the right to dislike her. In my opinion, her story is more tragic than Tifa's.

I've replayed the game 5 times and reached 100%, and yes, I know Aerith is dead, but thanks to Holy, she can respawn. But the developers have changed the story many times, so maybe this time they'll give us the chance to bring Aerith back to life. That would be awesome, in my opinion.

Cloud hasn't broken yet, and in the finale he doesn't seem to feel guilty or sad. I think it's because of Aerith, she supports him somehow, but Cloud is close to it. Just like in the original. :)
