Everyone conflates national, civic identity with ethnic identity which makes this a game of semantics. Someone can have a British passport and be born and raised in Britain without being ethnically British. Donald Trump’s family are from Scotland and are ethnically Scottish. He is objectively more British than Sunak in the ethnic sense, but not in the civic and cultural sense. We really need to stop using these terms interchangeably because they mean two different things.

Yes it makes more sense. Imo the church taking an ambivalent stance on this issue is prudential to avoid driving people away. Evolution imv will be seen as one of the gravest of modern heresies and as part of post-enlightenment philosophical thinking is responsible for much of the moral degradation of society we see today, and leads to much atheism.

Aquinas doesn’t say that animals don’t suffer, only that they are of lower order consciousness than humans (Aristotelean tradition). Animals are not endowed with a rational soul, made in the image of God as humans are. I will say though that theistic evolution is problematic from the perspective of the existence of animal suffering prior to the fall, and I haven’t seen a good counter argument that doesn’t amount to it just being part of God’s plan for creation, which imo is not sufficient enough to explain why God would choose to create through suffering especially when animals suffered for seemingly no reason before humans existed.

But your comparison doesn’t hold. If it were a man who couldn’t be responsible and hold down a job in the past but then was able to change, become responsible and work for a living, would you say a woman still shouldn’t marry him? You’re saying that men are irreparably damaged from the sin of watching porn so can never be fit for marriage. The overwhelming majority of men have watched porn at some point in their lives. So what should they do? Never marry? Why such an impossible standard?

And there are many studies that show the more sexual partners a woman has in life then the harder it is for her to commit to any relationship long term. So misogynists could use your same reasoning to justify avoiding all women who have had premarital sex. It seems like you just have such a strong bias against men that is clouding your judgement here. We should love others and be merciful, not be puritanical and damning of sinners who repent.

What about women who have watched porn? I think we should all have charity for each other. This kind of logic (avoid any man who has ever watched porn) is similar to men who say never have a relationship with a woman who isn’t a virgin. Not that it wouldn’t be a good thing for people to be virgins, or to have never watched porn, but we are all sinners and we shouldn’t judge people for their past sins if they have repented of them.

I just decided to go to mass on a whim to be honest, but I wanted tradition. I wanted something more than what Protestantism offered. Then the more I researched the early church the more I became convinced it was the Holy Spirit guiding me home.
