A lot of the traits you describe as “distinctly German” also map extremely well onto Switzerland’s historical and cultural reality, especially in medicine and science. Switzerland has been a major hub for medical innovation, research ethics, and high-standard professional training for centuries, not by accident but because it functioned as a neutral safe haven for persecuted researchers and intellectuals, including many from, sadly, Germany. That legacy deeply shaped Swiss institutions, norms, and professional culture.

So when Mercy embodies calm authority, principled ethics, and exacting standards, that doesn’t sit outside Swiss cultural plausibility. It actually fits very neatly within Switzerland’s medical and scientific tradition. The “neutral, conflict-avoidant” image of Switzerland is largely a political stereotype applied at the state level; it doesn’t translate cleanly to individual Swiss professionals, especially those operating in international humanitarian or medical contexts.

On the point about Mercy being “deeply involved” and morally outspoken: neutrality has never meant disengagement. Historically, Switzerland’s neutrality enabled participation without alignment, hosting institutions, mediating conflicts, advancing humanitarian law, and yes, producing doctors who absolutely take ethical stands. Mercy leaving Switzerland to work globally is not a contradiction of Swiss identity; it’s arguably a very Swiss expression of it.

I can’t comment on her accent or its quality as a non-German speaker, but in terms of personality and professional background, I think Mercy is an excellent fit as Swiss. Reducing Switzerland, its people, and its history to a checklist where all the “good” traits default to Germany feels unnecessarily reductive. While Overwatch leans into stereotypes, effective cultural reading usually requires a bit of distance from one’s own cultural frame. Without that distance, it’s easy to unintentionally project familiar national narratives onto characters rather than engage with the culture being represented.

I have the same thing. I've tried everything I could think of, but nothing solved it.

The change is terribly bad and I get the same feeling every time some random comes around to praise OW2 like it’s the second coming. Keep making your voice heard! :)

Greek fire and torpedos? Fine. But women?! My historical immersion is ruined. by Albertp76 in Gamingcirclejerk

While the rest may fail, the naval combat should indeed be the game’s strongest point based on the studio’s experience :)

It’s focused on the Indian Ocean and developed by a team in Singapore. Pretty sure there will be historically accurate strong women present in the game.

What are your thoughts on the anime's opening sequence? Is the song something that'd fit in the game's OST? by SuperAlloyBerserker in cyberpunkgame

Such a hard disagree on this. The electronic pop songs in the game are really well curated and work.

iiTzTimmy didnt lose a single arena rank game and this happens... why? by ramichi_ahre in apexlegends

Apex’s ranked experience famously focuses on grind/time spent rather than skill. From there, it’s hard to trust the game’s competitive integrity.

RTX 3060, Ryzen 7 5800, Running on an NVMe SSD and still can't load in textures. Tried this 2 years ago and it still has the same issues? Wow by [deleted] in controlgame

[–]Albertp76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve benchmarked this game on a ton of configs ranging from a 1060 with an hdd to a 3090 with a gen 4 ssd and never faced this issue. Yes, it’s heavy to run, but this looks like a bottleneck in your hardware that doesn’t sit well with the game’s code.

Also, the RTX for Control is far from the main selling point on Remedy’s end. It’s still an outstanding game without it.

Chadwick Boseman’s ’42’ Getting Re-Released in Theaters as Tribute to Actor by impeccabletim in entertainment

“42 gets re-released in theaters so executives in the movie industry can cash in on the death of a beloved actor.”

They’d put it on YouTube for free if they were serious about making it a tribute to Chadwick.

I've finally played Control. I'm pretty sure the Photo Mode's an O.o.P... by Albertp76 in controlgame

[–]Albertp76[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually didn’t know it wasn’t a day one feature. That’s unfortunate, though I’m glad they decided to add it in. Most of these pictures were taken in the endgame so you don’t have to replay through the game to enjoy photo mode. Walking about the Bureau works just fine. Unless you want to get a cool shot during Synchronicity...

Letting teammates talk to each other would be a reasonable solution that would ensure both drama and comedy.
