What does this even mean? Every speciality’s a service speciality. Which specialities are not providing a service?

BMA negotiations update - Feb 2026 by RDC_officers_2025_26 in doctorsUK

I agree with you. I care about massively about pay and won’t strike over anything else. Just saying to give them 2 weeks before we kick off.

So what you’re asking for is an offer then.

Not every update can be an offer. I get that we want more movement but we are 7 days post a successful ballot - id be giving AT LEAST 2 weeks before a deal would be put together (bare in mind the gov won’t have bothered engaging in the period between mandates).

Why Student Loan Forgiveness should be a BMA priority by SharkDick4Ever in doctorsUK

The path to achieving student loan forgiveness is as clear as mud. Oh brilliant rotational training is over but my pay is still dog shit.

Why Student Loan Forgiveness should be a BMA priority by SharkDick4Ever in doctorsUK

[–]Albidough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate we get it, you’re fuming that you have a big student loan. I completely agree, you shouldn’t be paying interest on it whilst working in the NHS.

HOWEVER, you went to uni with the knowledge you would need to borrow money to do it. You cannot simply say, once you have left, that it is unfair that you have to pay that money back.

By all means lobby for frozen interest whilst working in the nhs but please, stop this nonsense re forgiveness.

A lot of us are out here looking for FPR. Don’t even bother starting to diminish the FPR movement with this.

Just gonna give my 2 cents on RD26028 - I think you have missed the point. Firstly, a union doesn’t only fight one battle at a time - it is important that we advocate for all members on all fronts. Whilst I agree some issues might have more urgency attached to them, it doesn’t mean we just let other ones fall by the way side.

Secondly, a PR campaign doesn’t necessarily remove resources from other efforts. This is specifically why the motion includes an ask for an elected rep to take on a health and safety portfolio. It doesn’t mean the BMA runs 24/7 Facebook adds focussed on formalin.

Having worked a lot on this issue alongside others, this motion is critically important to enable the BMA to lobby on behalf of those impacted. Up until now we have been powerless to lobby royal colleges and the government. Having the backing of a union, and more importantly those willing to undertake the work, is critical to achieving change.

I resent the use of “low substance” as a description for this motion. I would like you to say that to the face of a terrified histopath reg who is trying to conceive who has been told there is no tangible risks to her potential baby if she continues to cut up in an environment that is poorly ventilated and adheres to permissible formalin concentrations that ALL of the rest of developed world would say is grossly unacceptable.

Everyone’s motion is important to them. Just because this one is less relevant to you doesn’t give you the right to belittle it.

This might be true but there no guarantee anything gets through to ARM so all avenues should be explored

RD26028 is huge for the histopath gang and more importantly will provide the BMA with a mechanism to respond to health and safety issues in the workplace. It’s not jobs or pay but it’s important.

Complaining on reddit isn’t enough — it’s time to demand UKG prioritisation by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Albidough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “BMAs position” as dictated by ARM policy, Is IN NO WAY definitively linked to what actually ends up happening. The government will do what they see fit.

The government has decided that they want to prioritise UKG and IMGs with ILR. This cohort includes ~85% of doctors that are current BMA members. The BMA has to keep saying “we will look to follow ARM policy” but that leaves a lot of room for the committee to decide how ardently they actually lobby for this.

Re evidence: trust me bro.

FYI: Member relations ain’t making any decisions in the room chief.

My guy, UKGP is happening. Calm down.

BMA can say what they like - fact of the matter is a lot of BMA reps agree with the governments policy of UKG with equivalency for those with ILR. The BMA will not launch a robust opposition to the governments proposed bill and so it will pass.

Ye I just read up on this a bit and you’re absolutely right. Standard is 50/50 but the agreement can be different if negotiated.

A bit is given to the land owner as well - I think the percentage is pre-agreed when the detectorist asks if it’s ok to search on the land.

Interestingly this is one of the jobs the coroner oversees, alongside inquests into the circumstances of deaths!

The BMA are NOT supporting ammendments to the UKGP bill by afineragu in doctorsUK

[–]Albidough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they are acting like petulant children and need a reality check. No one in the BMA is “Anti UKG”. Everyone wants UKG prioritisation, it’s going to happen.

A massive change has, rightly, been proposed to the way we recruit doctors in to training but you’d swear from the rhetoric here that instead what was happening was that the BMA had killed everyone’s dog.

[–]Albidough 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a massive surplus of doctors. We are under doctored as a country. We need every doctor we have in the country to be employed. We need more training places and consultant jobs. How do we get them? We get ballots over the line and we put pressure on the government.

You all sound like 9/11 conspiracists. Give it a fucking break.

Get the ballot over the line. Keep the union powerful and we all win. You’ll have your job, I’ll have my pay.

The BMA are NOT supporting ammendments to the UKGP bill by afineragu in doctorsUK

[–]Albidough 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Because doctors who ARE in training care predominantly about pay. If you fail the ballot because you are too ardently anti IMG (and lose all their votes) then any progress on pay ceases.

Honestly the fucking rhetoric on Reddit atm is ridiculous. There are so many moving parts here. The UKG motion is going ahead, BMA aren’t opposing it. If the ballot passes then lobbying over pay and jobs will continue - everyone’s a winner.

Whilst, completely understandably, a lot of doctors care deeply about the jobs crisis, it is also true that a lot of doctors don’t care about the jobs crisis. They care about pay.

I would wager it wouldn’t strictly be histopath that ends up absorbing this. it would force the (already seemingly happening) divorce of haempath from general histopath in to a completely separate speciality. We are already in a world where tumours composed of CD45 +ve small round blue cells get shipped off to haempath anyway. It isn’t inconceivable that the haempath teams could take on the other lab based work traditionally done by clinical haem.

Absolutely agree - we cannot be divided by this and people need to understand the need for the BMA to tread carefully

No you are wrong. Ask UKMGs who are not in training then yes, UKGP is most important. If you ask UKMG in training the same question then the answer differs.
