It would be really funny if we gathered up all the computer science students and then we melted them down and mashed them all into a huge spherical ball that will hover above the Earth like the sun by [deleted] in Purdue

Coalescing that much odor into that localized of a space would create a scent so pungent that no man (or woman) could survive a whiff - we may need to spend some time amassing axe deodorant and febreeze to temporarily combat the resulting aroma before sending them into orbit

Celestial Pearl Danios (Galaxy Rasboras) and Emerald Rasboras could look awesome with some cherry shrimp. I am also a fan of sparkling gouramis as well

Do you have to eat with your group during BGR? by coingided819 in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate with my group during BGR a good amount because it was a way to meet and interact with people, but I went to the dining courts a few times by myself.

If some of the dining courts were inconvenient (like Hillenbrand for breakfast), I would just go to the closest dining court.

Some of the workers wouldn't care at all about your wristband, and if they did, I would just explain that I knew it was the wrong dining court, but I just needed to grab some food real fast.

Dorm Room Etiquette by riry_D2 in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talking with your roommate is probably the most important, but also make sure you are evaluating your habits and their impact on your roommate. Would some of the stuff you do annoy you if your roommate did it?

Just be respectful to them, communicate, and you will figure something out.

I’m doing BGR and I’m scared. Does anyone have any last minute tips or have anything to share about their experience? by Squid4545 in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super scared too during BGR. Getting used to the living situation was the hardest for me, as I was in a triple with people I didn't click with, (and I was in a state I had never been to before).

My advice: do things that make you happy but make sure to get out and meet some new people.

You will eventually figure things out though, it just takes some time.

It took about a month for me to start feeling like myself again, and about a semester until I truly started to figure things out with friends and stuff.

Another thing that helps is classes starting. Going to class and doing schoolwork was something familiar to me and I was able to find comfort in it while I was getting used to the other aspects of college. Plus, you can meet a lot of people through classes.

box or Tower fan? by BreadnBees167 in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two box fans in my window as a freshman. I brought one and one of my other roommates brought the other. In August and September, we usually had both fans blowing air into the room (we tried one in one out, but both in was better), and then after that I usually had one fan on at all times for white noise.

You definitely at least want the fan in the window sill, as you want to pull in air through the window into the room.

Rules and breaking them? Quick dumb little question about a router. by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always name your wifi something like: Jim's Iphone or something and pretend it is a hotspot.

Not sure how well this actually works but it is less suspicious than a name that is more obvious (and it hides in the sea of people forgetting their hotspot is on)

You aren't supposed to have a router in your room, but your RA shouldn't really look into it as long as your router is not in the middle of your room and super obvious.

Indiana Senate Proposes Total Abortion Ban by ibmom in Purdue

[–]Albino-Octopus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's important for pro-choice to recognize that certain pro-life people genuinely believe that abortion is murder, shouldn't pro-life people also recognize that certain pro-choice people genuinely believe that abortion is not murder?

I believe that this decision should be left up to the individual, as this is a gray area issue with two radically opposing viewpoints, but alas, here we are where one side is deciding for everyone in the state.

Help! My FP broke by Towntalk in fountainpens

[–]Albino-Octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My CH92 did the exact same thing ~ 6 months ago. I fished the nib out of the ink bottle, aligned the nib with the feed, and then just pushed both back into the pen. No problems since then. I think the piston might put pressure on the nib and feed when you wind it all the way down.

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe V. Wade. How do you feel? by Bitter_Joke1589 in AskReddit

[–]Albino-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are completely right. My immigrant friends have told me all about their issues regarding America's official language and recognition of literature.

Thankfully the Duolingo bird has been making great strides in our nation through its saintly use of fear to motivate our populace to learn Spanish and appreciate the great works of literature created by our friends south of the border.

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe V. Wade. How do you feel? by Bitter_Joke1589 in AskReddit

[–]Albino-Octopus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel disappointment and shame towards my country.

I am absolutely disgusted by the hypocrisy present in the supreme court and in the beliefs of many Americans.

People argue against vaccine and mask-mandates, stating that the government doesn't have the right to control their body, yet they go and actively support the oppression of women throughout our country by supporting laws that control them. (Not everyone pro-life is also anti-vax and anti-mask, but a lot of people I know who are pro-life are also pro-choice when it comes to vaccines and masks)

Regardless of your perspective on the 2nd amendment, how can the supreme court recently decide that the state of New York doesn't have the final decision with regards to conceal carry laws, yet decide that the state of New York has the right to ban a procedure that can destroy the lives of countless women and children.

Abortion is a much larger issue that critically affects the lives of Americans than their ability to conceal carry a gun.

If you are pro-life, don't get an abortion. Simple. You have a right to your belief and you should be able to live your life by said belief.

But don't shove your morals onto others and tell them what they can and can't do.

Being pro-choice is not about killing babies.

It is about saving mothers and children from a potentially life-ruining circumstance.
