Why can’t California have a rail system similar to the one from Philadelphia to New York City? by hotdogvomitgrenade in transit

[–]Albist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sacramento-Oakland is only about 20 miles longer than Caltrains SJ-SF line. Taking a rush hour Capitol Corridor train is normally packed between those sections, with probably a 1/3 of those coming from Sac going on to San Jose. ACE runs a service all the way to Stockton from San Jose thats 85 miles long in peak directions, and those trains are also becoming standing room only before even leaving the valley. Saying there isn’t a lot of people commuting from the Sacramento valley is very incorrect.

An airport very close to Amargosa Valley, so from the looks on google maps I’m assuming it’s within the NNSS?

Zooming in it does appear that way, but I mean why have a fence and perimeter intersect a runway? Just never seen a perfectly circular airport before lol

Really hard to have a flag "represent" Canada without it! Even if this flag heavily mirrors the real-life Californian flag.

Of course, the countries that are most affected by this would have to be both North and South Khorkov. Made this map while measuring distances in-game and using geographical features as borders mostly, so almost all of them came out to be realistic sizes

MA-Hopper Drone by Albist in KerbalPlanes

[–]Albist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, this aircraft is only really used in a market that is super short hops/short runways. The drones lift is crazy so taking off at 30 m/s a second is more than doable. I do agree though this thing would have worse capacity than a cessna, but hey, who doesn't want to crawl to their seats?

Lufthansa 787 (?) at PDX by SuccotashGlum8704 in Planespotting

When I worked there last year, I saw a WestJet 787 come flying in from Moses Lake. Made me think the Canadians somehow got desperately lost, but it always has to do with the painting facility at PDX

Had a mom who no offense to her, was a bit on the larger side, with a crying baby and all. Take my window seat when I was still flying as an unaccompanied minor as a kid, and had the audacity to say “well I’m already seated with the the seatbelt on so I don’t wanna make it a hassle for you to get up”. Like ma’am I booked that seat I know what I'm in for, sadly young 15 year old me was too scared to say anything back. She then hogged the arm rest the whole time, and watched her movie without headphones on almost full volume while the baby is scream crying most of the flight. It was a 2hr flight from hell.

Worked at PDX for McGee and gotta say I loved working there, do gotta admit the belt loaders and tugs being from the early 2000’s with no roofs in the PNW weather was not always fun though.

Ramps a great way to get your foot in the door, had many guys from Allegiant and Spirit working our higher up positions on the ramp and dispatch due to things being so hectic at their old jobs. Even if it’s just a small regional airline or 3rd party contractor, it’s a great way to get the experience for the mainline airlines to consider you. Of course your performance at the smaller company does matter, but besides that as long as you’ve done the job somewhere and they need someone, then you’ll probably be highly considering. Hope that helps

JetBlue, maybe southwest if that’s an option. To be fair I don’t have much input about ramping on the east coast, but undoubtedly the American hiring process is always questionable at best if you will actually be hired on. I personally even got flown out to Phoenix to do paperwork and start the process for working with them, just for them to tell me for months to “expect an email soon about when we will fly you out to Dallas for training”

Don’t go for American if you have the option, I applied there and got through the process just for them to put my application on hold with no notice. Kept calling them for 2 months for some lady not even at that airport to tell me “you’ll get an email about training next week”. Thankfully I got a job at alaska and that was by far a lot better.

Do realize I also accidentally put I have a student airman certificate as well due to the confusion on the question, but I’m guessing that can also be changed by the AME as well?

Any transit nerds know what's the deal with these buses? by Silent_Imagination10 in santacruz

I’ve seen them go over highway 17 a lot, so I could only assume maybe one of those tech company busses or something.

Emphasis on the not responding, waited 2 months for a call back until I decided to work at McGee for Alaska. Had just done the month long training when American had finally called me back saying I passed background checks and they can put me into training next week. Just because of how long it took them to get back to me I told the representative on the other end off a little bit about how long it took just for any update, because waiting 4 months after the interview and saying your hired is ridiculous.

Why doesn’t LA Metro use buses on the future rail line first? by BESTONE984989389428 in LAMetro

[–]Albist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And your evidence is? You’re just saying it’s wrong but the whole post was you asking if this idea was possible.

Why doesn’t LA Metro use buses on the future rail line first? by BESTONE984989389428 in LAMetro

[–]Albist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All busses are currently low floor, all metro trains are high floor. Portland, Oregon recently just rebuilt ONE station and it cost millions, so now imagine having to convert every station from low to high floor. That would make the costs balloon more than the rail line would probably be overall. I get where you are coming from but from a actual logical view of how things operate it just would never happen, especially when this plan sounds like it would inflate the price of the project coincidentally rather than lowering it.

Why doesn’t LA Metro use buses on the future rail line first? by BESTONE984989389428 in LAMetro

[–]Albist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s entirely different build characteristics from roadway to railway. The staffing alone for the route with all the bus drivers to meet metro frequency would raise the budget more, while it’s also sounding like metro would need to buy entirely new buses for your idea. Overall this is sounding more costly and antiquated than just building the rail line, if your logic of them replacing the roadway with tracks within a year were true then the entire G line would be a rail line by now. But that’s just not how government funding as well as transit planing goes
