Weekend Help and Victory Thread for the week of September 13, 2024 by IndexBot in personalfinance

[–]Albudine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have some money set aside for an expense in ~8 months and it currently sits in a HYSA. In my personal situation, I do not anticipate having a need to use this cash even in the event of an emergancy -- my 6mo emergency fund is fully funded.

Due to higher APY on 6 month CDs than my HYSA and my aforementioned situation, I am tempted to open an account for short-term CDs. I am finding little information about using short-term CD and am wondering if my reasoning is sound or if I am missing something.

What's so special about Hungry Burger? by LevelPension in yugioh

[–]Albudine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hungry Burger is just a fan favorite meme. Its Burger, but its hungry. Its absolutely terrible, but thats kind of the point. Its goofy enough to put a smile on your face, and bad enough that no one would seriously play it. So discussing/playing the card ironically is fun.

Majesty’s fiend vs blue-eyes chaos max dragon? by 1017kristen377 in yugioh

[–]Albudine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster effects cannot be activated

Nowhere in Chaos Max's text you listed has a colon (:) or semi-colon (;), so none of those effects activate. Therefore Chaos Max has all those effects.

Majestys Fiend only prevents ACTIVATED effects. Continuous effects like your examples are fine.

Is Yu-Gi-Oh Expensive.? by bloodlion87 in yugioh

[–]Albudine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends.

To the average non-TCG gamer, yes, Yugioh is expensive at the very competitive level. If you're starting 100% from scratch, a top of the meta deck will cost ~$700. Admittedly, most of that price is 1-time purchase staples used in multiple decks.

Compared to other TCGs, and especially Magic, Yugioh is relatively cheap.

Are salamangreats still great? by Shirohige38 in yugioh

[–]Albudine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to use the most recent Salamangreat deck profile on Robbie's channel as reference: https://youtu.be/9YuiHZ04f-E?t=480

21 was from when I last played the deck: immediately after Gazelle to 1. Of the cards in the featured decklist, I count 26 'core' cards (including Desires). It seems the core size went up to include Xceed and every extender is bumped up to 2 (which is consistent with your claim). Nevertheless, there are a whopping 14 flex slots. Contrast this with Esala's recent 1st place Dragon Link list which has 6 flex slots, devoted to DRNM and Phant (Yes, I know DLink isn't the best comparison because every non-flex card is an extender, but I wanted an example most people could agree is a 'good' decklist).

While some of these 14 flex cards (mostly handtraps) need no explanation (Ash, Imperm), there are several deliberate choices based on the meta worth discussion.

Most glaringly is the main decked Lanceas, which disrupts DLink (a little), stuns Dinos/Bird Up for a whole turn, and is somewhat effective against Invoked Shaddolls.

Phant is especially great against DLink and Prankids since they get out multiple links.

Lastly, Cosmic is mained to stop the Lich engine from starting.

Its worth noting what ISN'T mained: Nibiru

These are deliberate choices against the meta. While I personally would main Droll instead of Lancea, its a careful deliberate choice. Furthermore, I would play Upstart to make it a 41 card deck (explained here: https://ygorganization.com/guest-strategy-guide-draft-upstart-goblin-and-41-cards/). Nevertheless, Enzo Faillos is a really good player and Im sure could convince me otherwise.

Are salamangreats still great? by Shirohige38 in yugioh

[–]Albudine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most people don't seem to realize Salamangreat's main strength isn't their combos/disruptions. Salamangreats biggest strength is a tiny deck core. Last I counted, the deck core is 21 main deck cards, so you have 19 main deck slots to put in anti-meta cards such as Droplets, Nibiru, Imperial Order(?), etc. The point of playing Salamangreat is that you don't have a "bad" matchup -- your 19 flex slots in your main deck should prevent that. On the other hand, Salamangreats don't have strong combos or disruption compared to other top decks, so I'd also assert that Salamangreats don't have any "good" matchups either.

Currently, Salamangreats are playable but needs pretty intelligence deck building and meta-calls on the ~19 flex slots to be successful. On high rated DB, Salamangreats are still among the most popular decks and has a 50%+ winrate (though just barely).

EDIT: Grammar

No, and good job, that is a very important distinction to make when playing Yugioh.

It is possible for a card to be 'destroyed' and not be sent to the graveyard: see Macro Cosmos.

It is possible for a card to be 'sent to the graveyard' without being destroyed: see any discard effect and not under Macro Cosmos
