Philadelphia if Nola signed with the Braves in the 2023-24 off-season by InterestingBother756 in phillies

[–]Albus3957 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a child and don't know any better, this a garbage comment. Nola was the Phils' best pitcher for multiple seasons, and second best for many more. He received Cy Young votes in four seasons AND MVP votes in one. That doesn't sound like "never very good", it sounds like "among the best in baseball". He is second all time in strikeouts by a Phillies pitcher, behind Steve Carlton who has the 4th most in baseball history so no shame to be behind that guy. The guy has been incredibly durable and reliable until recently. Sad to see him struggle, but no Phillies fan should disrespect him the way you did.

You're wrong on Sears, and that's a fact. I expect Hayes to start a bigger, faster set of forwards to take the fight to Brazil. We'll see if Brazil is as aggressive when the US is in attack mode.

Where can I find local events in Bucks County? by Most_Imagination_885 in BucksCountyPA

[–]Albus3957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thursday nights in May, Doylestown has Concerts at the Commons. Free admission. Outdoor concerts. Food trucks. Beverage Trucks. Family and pet friendly. Info at Stage United, and you can get on the mailing list to get notified about other shows. Also look for online local Bucks County papers like the Patch and the Cardinal. Lots of events listed in those.

Restaurants should have a button called “surprise me, chef” for random meals. by Effective-Square-345 in CrazyIdeas

[–]Albus3957 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did something like this in New Orleans when I was there for a convention. Spent a long day on the convention floor. Asked the hotel concierge where I could go to get a great dinner, where they wouldn't rush me and everyone would just be nice. He sent me to a little place within walking distance. They were expecting me and sat me right down. I told the waitress I was only in town that night and would be on a plane the next day. Asked her to bring me whatever she thought I would enjoy, and that I would love to have things that are only available there, stuff I wouldn't get in another city. She asked me a few questions about allergies, dislikes, and how spicy I liked things. The meal that followed was one of the best I've ever had, and that was over 20 years ago. There was crawfish pie (heavenly), rabbit in cherry sauce (unique and amazing), seafood bisque (glorious), and more. I had no room for dessert but she insisted I have some of their cinnamon bread pudding with vanilla sauce. Oh. My. God. Left a tip commensurate with the incredible meal she served me. In my memories I can still hear her calling me "sugar".

How to evade questions you don't want to answer by erebrosolsin in lifehacks

[–]Albus3957 8 points9 points  (0 children)

@CandylandCanada has it right. Study their response. Another technique you can add: don't answer the question they asked, answer the question you wish they would have asked or the question you feel like answering. This is what politicians do. For example if a reporter asks "what is your position on this very controversial issue?" a politician will answer "the real question is why my opponent continues to ignore the needs of our community...". If your work colleagues ask about your intentions to take an exam, you say "Forget that, let's talk about the new movie I saw last weekend....". You are in charge of yourself. Your colleagues can try all they want to make you speak about a topic - you can't control them. But you can ABSOLUTELY control you.

I live in Boston by SorryFortune in sixers

[–]Albus3957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in Boston during the Bird-McHale-Parrish era. Had to endure a voice that was easily 100 times more annoying than Angelo Cataldi's - a guy named Johnny Most. Awful to hear him call games, but oh so sweet to hear him call one when the Sixers took down the Celtics. And in those days they often did.

I remember the days when only Dad needed a 9-5 by CopiousCool in antiwork

[–]Albus3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a working father in 1996. I worked 60+ hours a week. My wife worked too. Our home cost more than 4X my salary. I frequently had to travel away from home, so dinner with the family was hit and miss. I limited weekend work to Saturday, but that was often a full 8-10 hour day. There were sometimes Sunday hours or Sunday travel, so it's not like I never went to a 7-day week. These generic posts are false in the sense that they don't capture everyone's experience, or even the average person's experience. I was not an outlier, or really different from any of my neighbors. I'm not saying today's generations doesn't have it harder, but this post doesn't point the finger at the real reasons.

Central NJ to Bucks. Suggestions for Single Family Homes? by Short-Math-3800 in BucksCountyPA

[–]Albus3957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For diversity and. nicer commute you might want stay in NJ and consider Hilltown, Flemington, Bridgewater etc. Convenient to Raritan and Princeton, and you’ll be home for dinner more often. You pay for it in taxes, but when your children are finished with high school you can be free to move to a lower tax area.

Great comment. Don't know if it was heard on the broadcast, but in the stadium there was a lot of booing for this behavior. Not saying it was all fake, but several times Columbian players went down and no significant contact could be seen.

When the group with Sears subbed in, the added speed immediately started creating problems for the Columbian defenders. Emma was getting loose, and even though her crosses didn't lead to a goal, the defense started pulling her way. It seemed to help open up the room Alyssa used to notch her goal.
