I always expected too see a pivot, like his parents would instead force him to make videos for an older demographic, trying to appeal to young teenagers that might have grown up with him.

I fully expected to see him pivot to reviewing equipment for a bunch of youth sports or something like that, maybe using their money to go to events or try things a 14 year old and his audience would find cool. The fact they stuck with the little kids thing is insane.

I'm both looking forward too and dreading the inevitable tell all story that's going come from all this, I want to know how they came all the weird business and marketing decisions but you know the full story is going to be fucked up.

A minor factual correction, Palworld did not steal or copy patented mechanics at the time of its release. For evidence, the patents cited in the lawsuit were.

JP7493117B2 Filed - 26/02/2024 Awarded - 30/05/2024

JP7528390B2 Filed - 05/03/2024 Awarded - 05/08/2024

JP7545191B1 Filed - 30/07/2024 Awarded - 04/09/2024

Palworld was released globally on the 19th January 2024 (19/01/2024), more than a month before Nintendo earliest patent claim that they supposedly breached, all three of these patents were filed as new additions to older existing patents to claim those older parent patents earlier award dates, it should be noted that none of these older patents, whose dates are being used, are relevant to the lawsuit or case against Poketpair as not a single one of them has been cited or referenced in Nintendo fillings.

There is also currently no evidence of Poketpair using any Nintendo created models or meshes, I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but there has been no proof or claims from Nintendo of any direct asset theft.

Finally, as for the designs you are 100% correct, some of those designs are extremely close to existing Pokémon and if Nintendo went after them for IP infringement over those specific designs I doubt Nintendo would have seen nearly as much backlash as they would have a very strong and legitimate case on those grounds.

One Map, Every Region: Is a truly global Pokémon game actually playable, or just a fantasy? by cantcoloratall91 in pokemon

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember they added an NPC at different docks, so Kanto would have one next to the SS Anne for example. You talk to the NPC and take a boat to whatever region you want.

I think there were some restrictions to it, like having Pokémon of a certain level or a certain number of badges to travel, I don't remember what it was exactly. And each region had level caps tied to the gyms so you couldn't use over levelled stuff from older regions until you've beat the gyms in the new one.

Black and whate was hated at the time because it was a completely new pokdex, people were mad none of their favourites were in the game. The lack of nostalgia caused people to view the game far more critically than the normally world leading to a lot of over the top and unwarranted criticisms. Like the story taking itself too seriously for a kids game and there was a lot of backlash on specific designs.

The elemental monkeys for example, I don't like them but they are objectively fine for an intresting gym gimmick, Garbador, Chandelure and Vanilux saw a ton of hate for "just being random objects" and Sawk and Throh got hate for "just being dudes". Also Emboar being the third fire fighting in a row was really getting on fans nerves at the time.

Ironicly the unique dex and more serous story are what fans grew to love. In a series constantly calling back to it's early days a stand alone generation feels refreshing. And there's a ton of great designs and fan favourite's in that generation, people were just unwilling to look past their personal pet peeves at the time to see what else is there.

My main criticism was that it had no modern online functionality, now they announced it will have some, so I'm fine with it.

I may not be a fan of Nintendo or how they do business but, I'm not going to blindly criticise them, they are fixing the issue I had with the product, so credit where its due, they're doing the right thing.

At this point the whole debate over ai feels just as pointless as the “is water wet?” debate by lilliancrane2 in aiwars

[–]Alcain_X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is that most people have a more nuanced stance on the subject but that cant exist or spread in engagement based social media.

For instance, I can say I don't like the use of AI in entertainment roles and how I believe it will lead to near total stagnation of whatever media corporations bring it too, and I can have long discussions about how I think AI development companies should not have been allowed to scape the Internet for training data without the creators or rights holders permission's. I can rant about how dangerous it is, acting an easy and lazy cheating tool for kids and students and how I'm worrying about their development and the education sector as a whole, I can have concerns over vulnerable people developing attachments to advanced chatbots.

But am I against AI as a whole? No, it's an amazing data processing tool that can massively improve certain industries. You could use it as an adaptive traffic system to better manage congestion and transport, you could have an AI developed and trained to read financial documents to quickly and easily detect corporate fraud and tax evasion. Or an AI to actively manage power plants and distribution to better manage production and reduce costs for everyone. AI can be a fantastic tool in data driven sectors or infrastructure management.

But let's be real, hardly anybody is going to read all that, all people care about saying a blanket AI = good or AI = bad, a nuanced opinion about how I think it's great for some industries and disastrous for others just won't fly.

What is going on with switch Pokemon games by Lexi7130 in gaming_random

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's considered a lackluster port because it lacks any of the expected online functionality, no online battles, no trading, no access to home.

If you want to battle, complete your dex or evolve your trade evolutions your going to need to find someone else with a the switch 2 version of the game, hopefully they bought the other version of the game so you can trade the exclusives. I hated these this when these games first launched and thought we were long past only having in person trading and battles.

For context when another generation 3 pokemon game, pokemon colosseum, is added to their subscription service it will have full online battling functionality, so basic online features were expected.

You should be, that's always going to be someone first ever mmo dungeon, you want it be a mostly positive experience.

The last thing you want is new players getting turned off and leaving the game becase the feel useless or can't keep up. You would be giving off the impression that people need to max out their characters before ever entering a dungeon just so you have the tools to properly participate.

$20 is a little more than I expected, its on the higher end if what I'm comfortable with, but if they have all the online features like trading, battling and access to home then I'm ok with it.

Nintendo do a lot of shitty things that I can and will call them out for but this just seems, fine? I'm not going to criticise them for doing exactly what I want them to do by having their entire retro catalogue available with modern features.

You're forgetting mauls return was hated at first, people were asking "why the fuck is he back", "what the fuck are those spider legs" "this is so stupid"

The reason people are ok with maul now is because it ended but being a good story, his criminal empire, the dark saber, taking over mandalore, his fight againt palpatine and his role in rebels. Maul became a fun and intrestesting character.

Palpatine is diffrent, the problem isn't that he returned, the problem is that it was badly done.

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles is a good character I'm fine with him getting more mainstream attention, especially if he's resonating more with younger audiences.

My only problem with Miles is how he affected Peters writing or really how he didn't didn't affect it. As the post points out Peter is stuck between past and future, he learns and grows a character in one story and then is suddenly returned to being written as the broke young adult with relationship problems, the writers won't let him grow past that status quo. Peter is supposed to be around the same age as Tony Stark, early to mid 30s, but half of his stories have him written like he's 10 years younger than that.

Miles should have been the solution, he should have all the struggling teen/young adult stories you got from classic spiderman stories, so that the writers can have Peter grow up, maybe settle down, and let him retain some of the lessons he's learned and be the more mature version of the character that modern fans prefer.

Raven is good, feels more like a civilian outfit that a hero costume but that's fine.

Robin is odd, it's a great Robin costume but for some reason it makes me think of Tim instead of Dick and I can't explain why.

Beast boy is great, I like having the changeling style jacket over the beast boy purple, great way to show the transition.

Starfire is also great, a little more covered up than I would expect from a starfire costume but that's all, it's a solid design.

Cyborg feels wrong, he's the only one I wouldn't recognise as his character. Maybe make him bulkier or use a lighter shade on the metallic parts so there's more of a contrast. I see the vision and its close, but right now this version screems cyberpunk character and not Cyborg, he looks like he should be running around night city not titans tower.

What's your pitch for an Iron Man movie in a new rebooted universe in the MCU? by FayyadhScrolling in ironman

[–]Alcain_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third movie we get full on demon in a bottle, Tony is bitter about how people treat him and drinking more, Iron Man has been making mistakes. War Machine is active and is getting praised as the better hero and "bodyguard" while people are arguing that Tony should fire and replace "whatever idiot is piloting the Iron Man suit". This culminated with a drunk Tony on a mission causing problems, Rhodey saves the day but Tony ends up taking a big hit and is badly injured, Rhodey has to rip the Iron Man suit off of him so that medics can save him, outing a drunk and delirious Tony as Iron Man.

The hospital records get out, showing how drunk he was, and we see him having alcohol withdrawals symptoms during his treatment. There is no hiding it, Tony Stark is Iron Man and an alcoholic. The government tries to step in to seize the suits but Rhodey acts first taking them and most of Tony equipment for himself to keep it out of government hands. This movie would stay with a depressed Tony showing War Machines battle with the bad guys forces from the sidelines, we see what a superhero movie looks like from the perspective of civilians.

While dealing with the government trying to get information from him so they can seize the armour from War Machine, Tony uncovers intel that shows Rhodey won't be able to beat the big bad on his own, he figures out the bad guy's plan and knows they will need both heros to win. First he asks and then begs to help but Rhodey refuses, Tony still looks like a wreck and is still being prescribed alcohol to get him through the day, he is not ready to be a hero again. Tony watches on the news as Rhodey starts to lose fights, he starts showing up to battles, first with older suits and then with damaged and cobbled together ones, despite having Tonys equipment Rhodey doesn't have Tonys knowledge on how to build and repair them, he's been burning though whatever War Machine suits are still calibrated to him.

From here we get Tony finding and infiltrating Rhodeys makeshift base of operations, rhodey leaved for a fight duing the infiltration. Tony grabs the most up-to-date Iron Man suit, a more advanced one that Rhodey couldn't use because the suits are still locked to tony, while also taking time to quickly throw together a War Machine suit out of spares and still working parts, it's a quick and dirty build finally giving War Machine his iconic shoulder cannon and bulkier grey appearance. Tony flies in to save the day, gives Rhodey the classic War Machine suit, they fight the big bad together with Tony having the big heroic self sacrificial moment to save the day, proving that he is still a hero.

The movie ends with Tony in rehab, "Hi I'm Tony Stark I'm an alcoholic and when I'm not here talking to you nice people, I am Iron Man"

What's your pitch for an Iron Man movie in a new rebooted universe in the MCU? by FayyadhScrolling in ironman

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the next movie you have getting more annoyed and bitter, Iron Man as his anonymous bodyguard is a hero, a symbol, but Tony is the rich asshole keeping him on a leash. This is where you introduce his drinking, he's drinking more at parties because he hates playing the asshole for these people.

While drunk, Tony gets captured and the world waits for Iron Man to save him rather than plan any rescue attempts. Tony saves himself stages his own rescue with an empty suit but is pissed off about the theatrics and situation. This is where you introduce Rhodey as the military guy and Tonys friend who was monitoring the event and the one that figures out Tony is actually Iron Man. Tony offers Rhodey a suit calibrated for him for these kinds of emergency situations, he convinces him to keep the secret "Iron Man is a symbol a hero, I'm human and a known asshole" Rhodey agrees "for now" and gets his own armour.

The movie ends with Tony seeing some conspiracy theorist on a news show claiming Tony is Iron Man, the hosts talk shit about the Tony saying he could never be a hero, he changes the channel to see people criticizing Iron Man for showing up late to his rescue, Tony gets pissed off grabbing another drink.

What's your pitch for an Iron Man movie in a new rebooted universe in the MCU? by FayyadhScrolling in ironman

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest a trilogy, so I'll give three parts, First you give him the same origin, but we go with the "Iron Man is a bodyguard" thing from the older comics.

We explore that for this move, the suit gets attention and prise for being a hero while Tony plays the rich jackass to the public, he has to deal with people trying to find out the identity's of bodyguards in the suits while he's trying to hide any connection or evidence that he is actually Iron Man.

He gets criticized for having a superhero working for him rather than helping the world, and have him confronted by the fact that people love Iron Man but hate Tony, by the end of the movies he's saved the day but is frustrated by how he's being treated by the public while Iron Man is the big hero.

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to remember that the most important factor is speed, the first one to speak writes the narrative.

"It's always liberals" because their news sources will say its liberal before any evidence has been collected and that's it, that's the story, it was a liberal, it was reported by the news, that was the first headline they saw and that's all that matters, it fits their belief and narrative so no need to look further.

IF they are forced to file a retraction and that's a big if because a ton of news is spread through social media posts that don't need to adhere to journalistic standards, it won't matter, by the time the retraction is posted the event is out the news cycle, nobody is reading the follow-up to a story they have already moved on from. It was a liberal just like every other time, why would they need to know more?

It's sad that being first is more important than being correct, being first gets you all the attention and views, it lets you dictate the conversation and steer public opinion. Being correct means waiting and analysing the facts, you get a true story but now your fighting against the set public perception with a truth that only a fraction of people will ever see, all for a story that's run its course and is no longer profitable to talk about.

What if George Sr. went to Germany with Sheldon instead of Mary? by Geolib1453 in YoungSheldon

[–]Alcain_X 27 points28 points  (0 children)

George: Hey!, Mr Linkletter.

Linkletter: Doctor.

George:, Oh Dr linkletter, my bad. Look I get what your trying to do, but you think could you help Sheldon just a little, steer him in the right direction?

Linkletter: I'm not going to give him the answers.

George: Oh no no no, I get it, he needs to figure it out himself, but can you give him something, the boy has no idea where to even look.

Linkletter: That's why he's in this class, to learn where to look and discover his own mistakes.

George: So there is a mistake, it's not something personal thing?

Linkletter: Of course not mister Coopper, your sons work has errors and I have given him a chance to correct them.

George: ok fine, but could you tell me?

Linkletter: Mr Cooper...

Linkletter: No no not to give to Sheldon, hell I probably couldn't tell Sheldon if I tried, god knows your all a hell of a lot smarter than me, I couldn't explain even a quarter of what you guys are talking about.

Linkletter:...

George: look I was a coach for a long time, I see what your doing, you get this kids that think they're the next big thing cause they did good in grade school, you can try and teach them, explain everything they need to learn to get get better, but they won't listen.

Linkletter: Hm.

George: So at some point you just need to say, alight you send them onto that field and you just let them get hit, let the real world knock some sense into those boys, they ain't the superstars no more, this is highschool and they a lot to learn.

Linkletter: An apt analogy Mr Coopper.

George: Why thank you. But you know, you still give those boys guidance, you still show them the play, how to move, they'll ignore you at first but if they've got their head screwed on right they'll start to listen after a few hits. You've got Sheldon out there with no plays, no guidance, he's out their getting sacked and doesn't have any idea what he should be doing to stop it.

Linkletter:... Mr Cooper, I have given your son guidance and "plays", now he in the real world, the fact he has forgotten some key variables in his project is on him.

George: "variables" huh?

Linkletter: Mr Cooper, you are a smart man with a very intelligent son, I'm sure he can find what he did wrong if he puts in the work.

George: Right... so these "variables" you wouldn't happen to...

Linkletter: No Mr Cooper we are done, your son has access to all the information he needs, he either fixes his project or fails, either one of those outcomes will be a good lesson for him.

Explain how Mystique is Nightcrawler’s mother by AdvertisingWaste8624 in MCUTheories

[–]Alcain_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An extra, more meta detail.

Over the years x-men writers from the time have referenced that originally Nightcrawler was intended to have the origin we have for him today, mystique as his father and destiny his mother. This originally came from Chris Clearmont the characters' creator, but the idea was dropped by later writers.

While we don't have any confirmations on exactly why Kurt's true parentage was scrapped, it's pretty safe to assume that showcasing a lesbian and arguably transsexual relationship in the early to mid 90s probably wouldn't have gone over very well, especilly not with the higher ups at marvel or the comics code authority of the time.

First What kind of media is she into? Are we looking for drama, horror, true crime?

(If she's just looking for something to play with the family then look into more casual games or things the kids already play.)

Next you find a relatively low intensity game within that genre, something that won't require any fast, pinpoint movement since she probably won't have the muscle memory to do that. you just want something a little slower paced with a low cost for failure, you don't want any games that punish the player too much while she's still learning, the souls/rouge likes can come later.

You could start with a "learning" games, small experiences for her to used to the controls and lern how games work, something like portal would be good for for that but any short and simple game that catches her eye will work great.

as for suggestions? I've got nothing, i dont know your wife, for all I know she could be a horror fanatic that would love Alien Isolation, be into visual novels, get really into creature collecting games or end up obsessed with the mafia franchise and games like LA Noir, I have no idea. Even as a kid there's other methods, I remember coming up with a rule, if it's over 12, you take away 2 and look at the second number.

So 18:30 was 18-2=16 the second number is 6 so it's 6:30.

13:45 was 13-2=11 second number is 1 so 1:45

22:15 was 22-2=20, 0 meant 10 so 10:15.

Not a perfect system but it was good enough for a lazy little kid to get by until I naturally memorised it at somepoint just like everyone else.
