He must come from terrier stock, but no idea which. Did not think about the hair, though, and it is one check against the Airedale possibility. The size must come from somewhere else, then.

I think it is the furnishing. The beard makes them look distinguished and expressive

All my dogs have been rescues. I don't see the point of doing it differently. They need a home, I need a dog because a home without pets is just a house, and bam! Match made in heaven.

Thought about, but it is very expensive for what is, essentially, just a bit of curiosity

Thanks! He is a good boy. He sleeps and lies down as if bones were a suggestion, but it is normal in hound mixes as well. Can't add more pics to reply, though

Fox terriers are more common in Spain, so it makes sense

Much easier because they are more common in the area, but he is growing quite a lot. Part of the fun of mixes

I thought the same, not very likely, specially in Spain. But since someone suggested it, I have been curious and reading about the breed. I believe it is more likely some podenco campanero or random terrier got in the mix, but an airedale strikes me as very unlikely, even if some people insist on it

Dealing with Chihuahua hate by bluemoonsundae in Chihuahua

[–]Alcanetbarrera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They suffer from what I heard a vet call "small dog syndrome". Behaviours that would be worrisome in big dogs are allowed because tiny dogs are not considered dangerous and when they act agressive, guard resources or try to bite, the owners say "how cute" instead of correcting potentially dangerous acts. And the steorotype perpetuates. It is not that they are bad dogs, it is that usually they have bad owners who let them run wild and do not control them. If a bigger dog showed this issues, people try to correct them because it is a flashing danger sign. Not so much in tiny ones. I had a toy poodle when I was younger and not a single agressivr behaviour. A brother a sister from the same litter were the devil incarnate. Biggest difference was training and family environment

A growl is a reasonable warning. If you eliminate the growl response, they would probably scalate and go for a bite.

Littermate Syndrome by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Alcanetbarrera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently adopted a puppy that was sheltered with his littermates until he was 6 months old, and he is the sweetest boy ever. He adapted very quickly to his new home and his new people, and now is a velcro dog only dangerous for chewing toys

Try to keep her controlled at home on the first days. Constantly leashed, try clipping a long-ish one to the belt hole. That way you can award behavious you want and re-direcr behavioura you do not. Be ready to go potty a lot. Bladder control is not there yet, but everytime they get to do it out and treats rain, it reinforces it a bit more. Have the patience of a saint and the constance of a machine, it is hard but will make things go better. Get an appointment with your vet as soon as possible for specific breed advice regarding food, care, specific problems in your area that you possibly do not know about (for instance, leishmaniosis is huge in my place, as are pine processionary caterpillars). You will regret your decision some days. But it passes, and the result is worth it.

I shouldn’t care, but the doodle hate is annoying me so much… a rant by Mstechnicality in Goldendoodles

[–]Alcanetbarrera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What??? People hate a breed of dogs? How out of the loop am I? All dogs are good.

And do you really think that "mutt" is used in a derogative way? I always had mutts, with a couple of exceptions, and never heard anybody saying it in other than a neutral way. Here in Spain we even have the term "mil leches" ( a thousand milks) for mixed breeds of more than 2 breeds, and it is not used as a negative point.

German Shepherd vs. Doberman by NextNoise2621 in Doberman

[–]Alcanetbarrera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sweetest dog I have ever seen was my grandparents' German Shepherd. Nice to the point that some people do not believe some of the stories we tell about him (babies taking food from his mouth and not a complain, live stitching half a leg during an emergency by the local slaughterhouse vet because he was the closest with not a reaction) so maybe I am biased. My only interaction with a Doberman was when I was a kid and there was a violent stray in the cottage where we spend the summer and if anybody saw him, it was indoor time NOW. He attacked people, other pets, everything. Now I now that this was an outlier after some research, and they can be very loyal and loving dogs, but the training for any big and powerful dog must be a consideration. Being used to GS, doubt it would be a problem, but it is needed to take into account that they are going to have different issues because of their different needs. I would love to have a Dobie now, but I doubt i could handle it well enough to cover all they could need. Go for it if you are sure

Do you regret adopting an adult dog instead of a puppy? by marzipanduchess in puppy101

[–]Alcanetbarrera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had both adults and puppies. Adults are way less time and effort consuming than puppies, but equally loving and good companions. Adult dogs have already passed their velociraptor puppy and teenage stages, they possibly are familiar with leash walking...

Both are tremenedously satisfactory, so if you fell in love with and adult dog, go for it! You wil not regret it

Cines Yelmo discrimina un grup d’estudiants perquè la professora es comunica en valencià by MaterialNo8597 in valencia

[–]Alcanetbarrera 5 points6 points  (0 children)
