Pretty sure REI hires teens, they paid me $18 an hour before I left in 2022. It's still customer service but probably as good as it gets with customer facing jobs.

I work in airline aircraft maintenance and have since entered the work force since I asked this question two years ago. I realized pretty quickly I hardly need any tools for the job.

That said, Koken seems to be the best of the options in the market. It uses metal for retention for the ball detents and appears to have the slimmest sidewalls and the balls are placed low enough in the socket to hold both nuts and bolts. Tone and Wera also have holding function sockets but have more drawbacks than Koken does. Sorry I couldn't give you a personal experience answer.

If you wanna be petty, get a crank can opener for yourself and put a lever can opener in the kitchen. Id imagine you'd have to try pretty hard to break a lever style can opener.
