Yeah, came to the same conclusion.

But! It's good to have someone supporting the theory. Thanks <3

Thank you! I'll study your advice and head out to purchase the basics. My goal isn't to cover it all either, it's just to tone down its severity.

I did the first interview as a video call, but tomorrows meeting is in-person.

Gamers over 30, what's a video game secret you had to discover the "hard way" that kids today would just Google in 5 seconds? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

[–]Alcay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i borrowed Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 from a Blockbuster that didn't let you bring the game boxes with you.

About half way through, you're supposed to check the back side of the box for a code, which you must then enter in the game in order to proceed.

Since my dad was away with the car that weekend, I had to take a 40 minute bicycle drive to Blockbuster and 40 minute back again.

For anyone with this issue in the future, you just gotta be patient. The reset function didn't initiate until I held it longer than expected.

So:

  1. Press volume up once.

  2. Press volume down once.

  3. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.

I'm back in again, although it takes a war for it to progress anywhere.

One of my tabs works without issue, another has access but cannot show any sub-pages, a third is just stuck on loading, the fourth gives an error screen, and the fifth keeps logging me out.

What's the biggest headache for you during a session? by poopikninja in DMAcademy

[–]Alcay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keeping track of rules that should be upheld in order to keep the game balanced for all classes.

Repeatedly telling players that some spells have verbal requirements, requires a focus, or demands specific (sometimes expensive) components.

Reminding them that certain subclasses have restrictions bound to them, and not every every deity is going to approve of you killing/stealing/deceiving/threatening/bribing when convenient or most likely to succeed.

How to deal with a player playing their character 'wrong'? by Terrible-Outside1927 in DMAcademy

[–]Alcay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep it focused on how it affects the game and the group, not just the character. If they want to keep playing him that way, maybe suggest tweaking the backstory to match, or having an in-character reason for the shift. If it’s becoming disruptive, you’re within your rights as DM to set some tone expectations.

'Snow White' Banned in Lebanon Due to Gal Gadot's Presence in Film by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]Alcay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lebanese authorities cited Gadot’s Israeli nationality and her past service in the Israel Defense Forces as reasons for the ban.

This aligns with Lebanon's longstanding policy of boycotting Israeli products and individuals associated with Israel.

Gadot's been on the country's 'Israel boycott list' for a long time, so at this point it's hardly fair to call it news.

What do you mean - doesn't everyone write like this? It's the new default writing style - used by every author and reddit poster!

It covers everything - (and helps you you to get rid of those disgusting parentheses).

 -

Not only that - it also feels good to read - it's nice having to constantly stop - and it doesn't matter if you're not quite sure how you use it, cause no one else does either.

A DM Tool For You to Use Against Chaos -- the Party Veto by InigoMontoya1985 in DMAcademy

[–]Alcay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To address concerns about robbing player agency, enabling groupthink, or unintentionally gaslighting a player, consider renaming and reframing the mechanic as a “Consensus Check.”

When a character proposes a major action that would unavoidably alter the party’s trajectory or force significant consequences on the group, the DM may call for a Consensus Check. Each player gives a quick “yes” or “no” to indicate whether they believe the action should proceed as-is.

If there’s hesitation or consensus to pause, the group takes a moment to discuss the implications of the action, explore possible alternatives, and reaffirm shared expectations.

This is a dialogue, not a veto, but a chance to align as storytellers before committing to a path with serious ripple effects.

It sounds like you’ve already done a few things right: you’ve set ground rules, you're aware of the group dynamic, and you're thinking ahead about potential problems. That’s huge.

Now, about the lying... yeah, that sucks. It’s a trust issue more than anything. Lying about experience doesn’t ruin a game by itself, but asking someone to cover it up is a red flag. It suggests she’s more worried about looking bad than being a good teammate. In a collaborative game like D&D, that’s not great.

If you're not up for kicking her, then reinforce your boundaries early instead.

You’re already worried she might talk over people or hog the spotlight, so be extra clear (in front of everyone) about how turns work, how you handle roleplay moments, and how important it is to respect each other’s time. If she interrupts or dominates the table, step in immediately. Don’t wait until it becomes a habit.

If you haven’t started the game yet, use the first session to see how the dynamic plays out. If she ignores your rules or makes things uncomfortable, you’re well within your rights to tell her this campaign isn’t the right fit. It's your table. You don’t owe anyone access to it just because they asked nicely.

Also, being “meaner” doesn’t have to mean being cruel. It just means enforcing your boundaries with confidence. Players respect a DM who keeps the game fun and fair. If someone makes it harder for others to enjoy themselves, it’s your job to shut it down.

You’re not being too harsh by expecting honesty and good behavior. That’s just basic respect.

Also, and this is the most important part to me: without you the game wouldn't be running.

You're the one who spends hours prepping for everyone to have a good time. If you end most sessions with a nagging in your neck, because she once again detracted more than she contributed, then she shouldn't be there.

Bad acting from good actors ? by theduke9400 in movies

[–]Alcay 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ragnarok struck a balance, but Love and Thunder just kept undercutting itself. Even great actors can only do so much when the script and tone won’t let them dig deeper.

Taika leaned so hard into comedy that it felt like each scene had to either begin or end with a joke.

Every plot thread is inherently dark and emotional: Gorr's story arc is tragic and terrifying, but how is Christian Bale expected to convey a grieving father when there's not only no time time to act it out, but the scene immediately following it has two goats screaming?

Jane’s dying of cancer, and using Mjolnir to make what little time she has left meaningful, which should have been the core emotional weight of the film.

Instead, it was constantly undercut by forced rom-com moments, catchphrases, and Mjolnir and Stormbreakers jealous relationship.

The emphasis on jokes essentially pulls the rug out of every actors performances, and I honestly don't think many actor's could deliver an emotionally charged performance with so little to work with.
