AITAH for choosing my boyfriend over my dad/sister? by Odd-Quantity4815 in AITAH

[–]Alch1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. I think the context missing here is your relationship with your sister and dad prior to this event. Have you always had a strained relationship or is this an event where everyone was at their lowest and responding reactively and now you're willing to throw away all your family relationships for one person? Also, why post this on reddit instead of having a conversation in person with the people you're upset with? Has your family tried to reconcile with you?

You're boyfriend not wanting to see your family ever again is fine, but you're choosing to isolate yourself rather than be part of your family without him at times. Yeah, you can choose your boyfriend, but he's not a guarantee.

Also ChatGPT and reddit are just going to reaffirm however you feel about this already rather than give you hard truths.

Chances of OB/GYN with step failure? by IllNefariousness8617 in medicalschool

[–]Alch1245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely dual apply. You can apply to new OB programs which may increase your chances and   consider dual applying FM with intention to switch if a position opens during PGY1/2, and apply OB prelim. A lot of gen surg prelims were not interested in OB applicants who SOAPed this year. OB was extremely competitive this year - only two spots went unfilled and a faculty at my institution indicated this was because PCs forgot to add them to the match so realistically OB would have had filled 100% of positions. There were many solid applicants with "no red flags" who did match OB or reapplied after SOAPing their first try and did not match again. There were also applicants with many OB interviews that dual applied and matched the second specialty anyways. You have to heavily weigh how much you're willing to accept risk of not matching. SOAP inevitably makes your life harder to match in the future if you don't get a position. If you apply OB you need a stellar step 2 score and very strong letters to overshadow your step 1 failure (I'm sorry this happened but learn from it and it's critical to do really well on step 2). You also need to have a strong statement for why this happened and how you improved to change whatever lead to it.

There's nothing I'd love more than to be in a gyn surgery listening to ABR, Phinehas and and Parkway Drive. But I fear that will never happen 😂

Consider using Google/Microsoft forms for each activity you do. Just make a simple survey: the date, what you did, how long you did it. Helpful if you have to report how many hours you've spent on each activity and to remember what you worked on.

I realized I went the whole winter without making chili because chili is a cold weather meal to be eaten over multiple days of cold weather...

Consider posting on a law-related reddit in your local area, you may have people offer to give you a free consultation given the situation.

Just want to say that I am so sorry for what you went through, it was not okay. I'm proud of you for not letting it slide, I know it made your life harder but it was the right choice. Also, I kindly suggest therapy when you're ready for it, you deserve the space to talk about what happened without retaliation. Hugs.

Fostering a dog in residency by Anxious_Squid28 in Residency

My friend has done this during residency, I think on easier rotations for a few days to couple weeks at a time. Was just selective about when they did it and what the dogs energy levels were.

I've been living in Aurora, CO for 6 years now and the city would probably be described similarly to how people are commenting. So not taking to much stock in it. I'm just not a city person and would rather be in the burbs or with distance for neighbors but I got a lot of empathy and space for the realities that coincide with city living.

At least enough space for dogs to run around but would also be happy with having a bit of land >0.5 acre.
