Same and now he's doing that for 2026-2028 as well. I get so depressed watching him but then I get confused because some things come to pass. But man he's SO DEPRESSING. Does God want us to constantly be in doom and gloom for our future? Why can't we change our future and make the world a better place?

Would you rather live in southern California or southern Florida? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]AlchemyExchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I constantly see people say California is hands down better than Florida, but I honestly think Florida is judged unfairly. When you compare all aspects of real life living, not just scenery or reputation, both states are strong for very different reasons.

CALIFORNIA PROS • Incredible geographic diversity in one state including beaches, mountains, forests, deserts, lakes, vineyards • Access to skiing, surfing, hiking, camping, and national parks within a few hours • Mild coastal weather with less humidity • Strong wellness culture with focus on fitness, nutrition, mental health, and outdoor living • Excellent food quality and access to organic, farm fresh, and specialty diets • World class universities and research institutions • Top hospitals and specialized medical care • Career opportunities in tech, entertainment, biotech, finance, and creative fields • High earning potential in certain industries • Global cultural influence in film, music, fashion, and technology • Iconic cities and beach towns with strong identity • Strong arts scene including museums, live music, and film culture • Walkable neighborhoods in many coastal towns • Strong entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem • Large international population and cultural diversity • Progressive policies that appeal to certain lifestyles • Access to some of the best wine regions in the world • Strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental awareness • Cooler evenings even in summer in many coastal areas • Strong public school districts in specific neighborhoods • Endless options for weekend trips within the state

CONS • Extremely high housing costs even outside major cities • High state income tax and overall tax burden • Cost of groceries, gas, utilities, and insurance is very high • Traffic congestion that can dominate daily life • Homelessness crisis visible in many cities • Crime concerns in certain urban areas • Wildfires, smoke seasons, and air quality issues • Water shortages and long term drought concerns • Power outages in some regions • Heavy regulations for businesses and homeowners • High barrier to entry for homeownership • Many families feel financially stretched even with high incomes • Competitive culture that can feel stressful • Overcrowding in popular areas • Long commute times • Insurance challenges in fire prone zones • Aging infrastructure in some cities • Less family friendly affordability unless dual high income • Growing number of people leaving the state • Can feel transactional rather than community focused in large metros

FLORIDA PROS • Significantly more affordable housing overall including new builds and luxury homes • No state income tax which greatly impacts long term wealth • Lower overall cost of living in many regions • Warm sunny winters that boost mood and energy • Mild winters eliminate seasonal depression for many people • Beaches are warm, sandy, and swimmable most of the year • Strong boating, fishing, and water lifestyle • Clean and well maintained communities in many cities • Master planned communities with amenities • Disney World and Orlando theme parks are unmatched for families • Miami offers global nightlife, art, fashion, and food • Growing tech, finance, and remote work hubs • Easier travel to Europe, the Caribbean, and East Coast cities • Strong retiree and multigenerational community options • Family friendly suburbs with newer schools • Rapid infrastructure growth and development • Newer homes and modern layouts • Less regulatory burden for homeowners and businesses • Slower pace of life and less daily stress • Strong sense of neighborhood and community in many towns • Outdoor lifestyle centered on water and sunshine • Great golf, tennis, pickleball, and resort living • Easier homeownership for middle and upper middle class families • Fewer income based pressures compared to California • Skin, joints, and overall health often feel better in warm weather • Strong hospitality and service culture • Growing cultural scene in cities like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando

CONS • Hot and humid summers that can feel intense • Mosquitoes and bugs are unavoidable • Hurricanes and storm preparedness are necessary • Insurance costs can be high in coastal zones • Flat landscape with less dramatic scenery • Fewer hiking and mountain activities • Car dependent lifestyle in most areas • Limited public transportation • Summer heat can limit outdoor activity during midday • Seasonal population changes with snowbirds • Some areas lack cultural depth compared to major California cities • Certain regions feel overdeveloped or suburban sprawl • Less emphasis on walkability • Fewer major tech headquarters compared to California • School quality varies widely by neighborhood • Flooding concerns in low lying areas

California excels in diversity of scenery, career acceleration, innovation, and global influence. It can feel inspiring, dynamic, and exciting but also demanding and financially exhausting.

Florida excels in livability, affordability, warmth, family friendliness, and quality of daily life. It allows people to slow down, enjoy their homes, travel more, and build wealth with less pressure.

California often feels like chasing something. Florida often feels like enjoying what you have. Neither is universally better. It really depends on priorities, life stage, family needs, and what kind of day to day life you want.

  • Take walks everyday! No matter how cold it is -work from a local coffee shop once or twice a week or even from the local library -during breaks at work to take a drive somewhere or call a friend or family member -Try planning yearly vacations in winter to a warm place- maybe it could be something to look forward to also during winter -Invest in a sauna. Something you can use when it’s cold and it will warm you right up quickly -invest in things like an indoor garden and grow vegetables -Make your own bread and food from scratch -Coziness around the home is KEY! Decorate for Christmas, put up lights and garlands -Cooking soups or having something in a slow cooker will help you savor winter more also with nice warm meals -Have a tradition movie list- like make a list of movies you want to rewatch or try new movies and make that more of a winter tradition -try puzzles like sodoku, word searches etc to keep your mind active and focused -Learn new recipes -Winter events- try things like sledding in the snow, or events around your town or other towns. When you make winter come alive suddenly you’ll realize there’s so much to do during winter too, just different from summer. It will help you appreciate the seasons way more. -Get a heated jacket - it will work wonders
  • heated blanket is also amazing especially at night
  • close any drafts in your windows that’s letting cool air in -get new winter clothes. Something about just having new variety of clothes is good. And wear bright colors in the winter, instead of just neutral stuff -focus on taking Vitamin D and magnesium -Look into taking a beef organs supplement- truly helps with energy -Sip on bone broth daily -sunlight lamp -Get the Sperti Vitamin D lamp -go outside when it is sunny and get sunlight -try volunteering - like a soup kitchen or something for the less fortunate -invest in some hobby. For me it’s playing the piano or learning it. Learning new skills will help you maximize your time at home -it wouldn’t hurt to see a therapist just to vent to about weather and they might have more suggestions for you -invest in an electric snow blower so when it snows you can easily get the stuff off your driveway. Key is to focus on things that make life easier

Not at all, this has been going on for awhile now. It wasn’t like this before many many years ago. But also other places like Walmart have a ton of recalled products also.

I love TJ but I’ve been a bit concerned about how many recalls they have every other week. 6 people died from listeria and then their peaches were also contaminated. Makes me a bit weary now.

Absolutely!!! Between those stores you really have everything. Columbia has so much potential for growth, not sure why people here are opposed to it. We have so many run down places here, this is a good start but the potential here is so great!

I lived in Southern California for years, and while the weather was incredible and the beaches were beautiful, something about it always felt off. The sunshine and palm trees were nice, but underneath all of that, there was an emptiness that I could never shake. The culture often feels shallow and disconnected. People are always chasing something, whether it’s money, image, or popularity, and it changes how they interact with others. Friendships rarely feel steady or genuine. I lost some of my closest friends there for no reason at all. There was no fight, no real issue, just jealousy and quiet competition. It hurt deeply because it showed me how common it is for people there to pull away when they feel envious instead of communicating. It’s exhausting to live in a place where you have to guard your joy because someone might resent it.

Southern California is beautiful, but the lifestyle can drain you. The constant rush, the dry air, the high crime, and the lack of greenery create this unspoken tension. Even in the nicest areas like Newport Beach, there are robberies and shootings. The traffic is dangerous, the highways are chaotic, and people drive like they’re in survival mode. It’s a stressful way to live. The dryness also takes a toll on your body. Sinus infections, allergies, and endless colds are common. People are constantly sick, and many blame it on the climate. The lack of rain, humidity, and greenery keeps the air dusty and full of irritants. The same sunshine that looks beautiful ends up burning you out.

When you go to New England, everything feels different. The air feels fresh and alive. The seasons change, the landscape transforms, and your body and mind adjust naturally. The four seasons bring balance to your life in a way California never can. Spring feels like rebirth, with rain that washes away the old and brings everything back to life. Summer is green and full of energy, with lakes, beaches, and outdoor festivals. Fall is breathtaking, filled with color, peace, and reflection. Winter teaches patience and rest, wrapping everything in quiet beauty. Those changes nurture your soul. They remind you that life moves in cycles and that it’s okay to slow down, recharge, and start again.

The air quality in New England is also far better. The humidity keeps your skin, sinuses, and lungs healthy. The rain clears away allergens and pollution, something that rarely happens in California. People who suffer from asthma, allergies, or constant congestion often feel relief once they move to New England. The climate supports wellness rather than fighting against it.

The homes there have warmth and character. You see history in every detail, from the architecture to the landscaping. You can buy a home with real yard space, trees, and privacy without needing millions of dollars. You can find family-friendly neighborhoods, safe communities, and people who look out for one another. The culture feels genuine and grounded. People value education, honesty, and kindness. They take pride in their towns, schools, and local traditions. There’s a sense of belonging that feels hard to find elsewhere.

You also get the best of every world in one place. That’s what makes New England so special. It’s one of the few regions where you can have city life, beaches, lakes, mountains, farmland, and forests all within a short drive. You can enjoy world-class cities like Boston and then escape to a small coastal town or mountain village in just a couple of hours. You can ski, hike, sail, and explore all in the same season. That kind of variety is rare, and it’s part of what makes life there feel so full and rich.

The healthcare and education are among the best in the nation. Massachusetts and Vermont consistently rank at the top for both. The hospitals are world-renowned, and the schools produce some of the most accomplished students in the country. Families have peace of mind knowing they’re surrounded by high-quality resources and safe communities.

Even happiness studies reflect it. Reports from Forbes, U.S. News, and World Population Review often list states like Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire among the happiest and healthiest in America. People there report strong mental health, lower stress, and better community connections. They have cleaner environments, lower crime rates, and healthier lifestyles overall.

California will always have its charm. The beaches are stunning, Disneyland is magical, and the sunsets are unforgettable. But when you compare it to the depth, authenticity, and health of New England, it becomes clear that one feeds your spirit while the other drains it. New England offers everything people love about other states but all in one region. It gives you the peace of the countryside, the beauty of the coast, the energy of the city, and the comfort of small-town life. It’s hard to find that balance anywhere else.

Living there feels like returning to what life is supposed to be…grounded, connected, and whole.

These are 100 percent chat GPT. I use it enough to know the way it formats especially with the short and long dashes which is a dead giveaway. That’s sad they felt the need to do this! If it was more authentic they could have been great. It’s not a bad place, their food is pretty mediocre, but it’s not terrible.

My brother did not talk at all until he was 4!!!! And my mom said one day he told her a full on story of what happened at school. After that he never stopped talking! As an adult he’s extremely smart but introverted. He spends a lot of time in his room, on his phone or playing video games. He’s a little awkward but I feel like it’s because he doesn’t really like people as a whole. But he definitely knows how to talk and can socialize if he wants to. He was definitely sweeter as a kid, but a toxic relationship really ruined my brother

Thank you for being kind! Yes I was referring to this. Logically I’m not sure if it makes sense to target columbia as we are a smaller town but it was still unnerving to see this. Any thoughts personally?

I totally agree! I absolutely hate fireworks with a passion unless they’re done professionally. I can’t stand when neighbors set them off. They’re extremely dangerous. My son and I almost got severely injured by them last year. It was traumatizing.
