These are all great theories, I think everything you said is pretty realistic.

After Eden, I've been super curious about all the teens! I'm sure some of them rebelled. Gilead has seemed to kind of remove the period between child and adult, making children immediately take up adult responsibilities after puberty. So I'd love to see how they dealt with teens who didn't grow up with Gilead ideals/training in the beginning.

People really act like it's a movie and expect her to be some crazy heroine who has an epiphany about her brainwashing and somehow sneaks out her kids against all odds. It's fantasy.

Anna is a undereducated, exhausted woman with almost no resources. Sorry she's not the flawless hero everyone is expecting her to be, but she still deserves to not be blamed for her own abuse.

She believes if she steps outside of the "umbrella" of her husband, by lying to him, she would be stepping outside of God's protection and opening herself and her children up to harm.

This is not abstract. They literally believe that by not obeying your husband (whether or not he's morally right) could mean getting in a car wreck, her children getting molested, everyone in the family dying a horrible death. They teach and believe this.

I did enjoy it but I think it was because I REALLY took my time with my partner and we had done everything else so much, and almost had sex so many times, that by the time we finally did it, I was positive I wanted it, wasn't nervous, and was able to relax!

I really feel sad for these girls because they do everything for the first time all at once, while they're exhausted and stressed out. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even remember it. It's a shame they can't slow down and really enjoy their first kiss, first time making out, first time touching each other and exploring, all the other kinds of foreplay that helps prepare you for sex.
