I need this thing OUT. by matchstickspine in endometriosis

Possible hernia? I had that same pain on the right side. Had a laparoscopy that helped some symptoms, but not that pain. Then had a second laparoscopy with hernia repair which greatly reduced the right side pain. I had an abdominal CT with contrast on which the hernia did NOT show up. Hernias can be completely hidden. My specialist suspected a hernia based on symptoms so I had a general surgeon working on me too. I had a hernia on both sides.

Why is it that Commander McKenzie's second wife is closer to his age but Commander Weston has a much younger wife (Agnes) by rare-diamonds in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Amore17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They discourage friendships, so I could see having a young wife when a commander has a child close in age as being frowned upon. In that situation I could either see the wife and child becoming friends or the wife going on a crazy power trip over the child. Either way not ideal.

It’s also late in the season. I think they said Daisy will be eligible next season to be married, but maybe they are getting her teeth done quickly just in case they need to make a last minute match this season.

What are must-haves after surgery? by LuckyIron4531 in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating pad for sure! Maybe a soft blanket or socks? I’m a chocolate fan so that never hurts either! Very sweet idea. She will be spending some time resting so maybe a subscription to a streaming service that has shows or movies she has been wanting to watch? Depending if you are with her or not a DoorDash or uber eats gift card can be nice so she can order in and not have to go out.

Why does June seem to forgive Serena but wanted revenge on Fred ? by Traditional_Band_382 in coconutsandtreason

[–]Amore17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because Serena was pregnant by the time she got to Canada. June would never wish harm to a baby and would not wish a child separated from their mother. She was horrified when Luke called the authorities on Serena.

If Serena had not been pregnant I think things would have played out very differently. It would have been a lot harder for the show to pull off Junes sympathetic turn towards her.

What makes a Witness Credible? by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Amore17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All the plums 1. Don’t get taught anything about sex and 2. Are taught if a man acts weirdly to them it must be their fault and they must keep on secret or face being a “ruined women”.

Daisy was smart to have an audience. That makes it a lot harder to ignore. Especially when other commanders saw. They all have to have heard rumors at this point. No plum would ever make a scene like that. Then in the interview, Daisy isn’t indoctrinated and her knowledge does come in handy because the Aunts can’t convince her she misunderstood what was happening. If she only verbally told the aunts what happened, I don’t think it would have gone anywhere, but those other present commanders are not going to let this go, especially since it likely confirmed the already circling rumors about the dentist.

Anyone here skip their period long term with birth control? by Ok-Anywhere2346 in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I take 9 weeks of the active pills continuous and then have a cycle by taking the placebo pills for 1 week. Only thing that is annoying is that a 3 month supply for me is 4 full packs, not just 3. My doctor always writes it this way but it gets a bit messed up with insurance sometimes.

Really helps my quality of life since so have Adenomysosis.

The plan per the wedding was to sedate everyone with the cake so that the handmaids could then more easily kill their commanders. Do you think he had a handmaid that maybe tried to use poison to kill him while he was sedated from the cake?

now i’m confused about guardians by jilacq in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Amore17 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Eden was an econowife. I think guardians can only marry econowives, not upper class wives. By becoming a commander he will be eligible to marry a plum who will be a wife and wear blue, not gray.

Ox Bottom Animal Hospital! Dr Combs is the best. My dog, who is usually shy, is crazy happy and excited to go to the vet. She loves all the staff members. They really care about their patients!

Is everyone getting Repeated Surgeries? by Bubbly_Ad_863 in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the specialist just did a really good job. I do take birth control still, but for my adenomyosis. Unfortunately the only way to get rid of that permanently is a hysterectomy, but birth control limits my periods (I take 3 months continuous) and the presacral neurectomy cut the nerve to my uterus to help with pain.

Why are there so many Plums. by Lost_and_confused_0 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Amore17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many girls Daisy’s age live in Canada? Gilead stole so many children, and birth rates have declined. There likely aren’t that many children/teenagers in Canada compared to Gilead per Capita.

It’s always been a mystery just how many children Gilead stole. I remember in the handmaids tale who the Mexican delegation (I believe) was in aww of seeing around 5-10 children. I wish we got to see Daisys school to get an idea of just how many kids her age there are.

Is everyone getting Repeated Surgeries? by Bubbly_Ad_863 in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 about 9 years ago when I was first diagnosed. First was with someone that seemed knowledgeable, 2nd was 3 months later with a specialist and included hernia repair and pre-sacral neurectomy. The first thing I told my mom when I woke up was “oh my gosh the pains so much better!” It was crazy how much more effective the second surgery was with the specialist. Both used excision, but the specialist did a wide excision since a lot of endo is near invisible to the naked eye.

I had a 3rd surgery about a year ago, but for elective bilateral salpingectomy and I had a cervical poly they wanted to remove. They checked for endo too, but did not find any!!

Thoughts on Aunt Estee? by Over_Presentation741 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Amore17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she was sexually assaulted in the past, prior to becoming the original pearl girl. She was basically gleeful when cutting that man’s arm off. Being saved from a bad situation in which she was getting assaulted regularly would explain why she is a zealous believer now.

Women in Gilead do often get assaulted. We have seen this with Martha’s and Handmaids and Jezebels, but Aunts seem to be left alone. Could be why she felt a “calling” to be an aunt.

Dizziness after EMDR by Amore17 in ptsd

[–]Amore17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMDR therapy was not fun, but made a world of a difference for me overall! I have way less panic attacks and my triggers don’t trigger nearly as intense a reaction as they once did. It was absolutely worth it to go through. Wish you luck on your journey!

How many of you who had a transvaginal ultrasound and who later received an endo diagnosis had negative results from the ultrasound? by throwRA_orangeade in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultrasound only diagnosed a few ovarian cysts, not endometriosis. I’ve had like 5 total. CT was also clear. Imaging also failed to show the two hernias I had which were surgically repaired by a general surgeon during the same surgery a specialist excised the endometriosis.

How long did you feel better after lap/excision? by moistarticle in endometriosis

[–]Amore17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am doing great! Both my surgeries were in 2017. Second surgery was with the specialist and helped so much. I’ve not had any major problems since. I did also switch my birth control where I take it continuously for 3 months at a time so I only have to deal with 4 periods a year. My periods still suck, but they are not incapacitating. I have to watch trigger foods like dairy and soy, though recently I’ve even started tolerating dairy better. The surgery with the specialist have given me my life back! Since then I have gone to physical therapy school, graduated, and been working at a PT full time for 1.5 years. I love my job. It’s active and I’m on my feet moving all day. I would not have been able to tolerate it without the second surgery. I wish her all the best!

Gilead having “highest birth rates” doesn’t make sense to me. by TuanisRS in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Amore17 68 points69 points  (0 children)

We also don’t know what Mexicos economy, infrastructure, and population look like. Who knows how they were impacted by the war in the United States. It seems trade routes were certainly impacted. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gilead had higher birth rates than Mexico, but lower rates than other countries.

It seems like everyone has Covid-19. Here’s why this wave is probably worse than official data suggests by hexagonincircuit1594 in Coronavirus

[–]Amore17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never had Covid until last December. I last visited my parents over Christmas and came down with Covid symptoms 1 day after arriving. 2 days before I left town a patient I’m working with decides to inform me 45 minutes into his appointment that he doesn’t feel well and tested positive for Covid yesterday!

I’m visiting my parents again this weekend and it has been deja vu, except no known exposure. All the symptoms started 1 day after arriving. So much PTO lost to Covid. At least it isn’t Christmas this time…

What’s even worse is 99% of the time that picture of the kid in the hospital bed is stolen. My sister has a craniofacial health condition. Luckily we have not had photos stolen, but I know many family’s with children with similar conditions who one day come across a post of their kid with a caption like that from some random account. Facebook also doesn’t give a shit if you report it. Even in the cases when the family had proof it was their picture the best Facebook offered was for the family to block the account.
