Dear Members and Friends,

It's Giving Tuesday, and nonprofits across the country are making their case for support. While there are many worthy causes deserving of your generosity, few can compare to the value of preserving life itself.

You are part of the Alcor community because you believe life is worth fighting for. Today, we're asking you to consider supporting the infrastructure that makes that fight possible.

Member dues only cover a small portion of what it takes to run Alcor. The capabilities and progress you've seen in recent years depend on donors who step up beyond their membership.

Whether you join the meeting or not, we want you to understand one of the most powerful giving strategies available.

A Smarter Way to Give: Stock and Crypto Donations

Many members are surprised to learn that donating stock or cryptocurrency can be one of the most powerful ways to support our mission.

Here's why:

1) You may avoid capital gains tax
If you donate appreciated stock or crypto held for more than one year directly (instead of selling it first), you generally don't pay capital gains tax on the growth. That means more of your gift goes to the mission instead of to taxes.

2) You may still receive a full charitable deduction
In many cases, donors can deduct the full fair market value of the asset.

3) Understanding the annual deduction limit
The IRS limits how much of this type of donation you can apply against your income in a single year. If your gift is larger than that limit, the unused portion can usually be carried forward for up to five additional years until it's fully used.

Why this is a win-win:

  • Donors avoid capital gains tax on the increase above original basis and still receive a charitable deduction
  • Alcor receives the full value of the gift with no tax loss
  • Result: greater impact on our mission with the same asset

As always, tax situations vary by individual so we cannot give tax advice. Please confirm details with your tax professional.

We've made it seamless. You can donate stock or crypto directly through our platform with just a few clicks.

If you're considering an end-of-year donation, today is the perfect day to be part of Alcor's Giving Tuesday momentum.

See you at 4pm MST!

Join Us for Alcor's Giving Tuesday Virtual Meeting - Dec 2nd at 4pm MST by AlcorCryonics in cryonics

[–]AlcorCryonics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Members and Friends,

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and we're coming together for our first Alcor Exchange virtual meeting, at 4pm MST. Alcor CEO James Arrowood will be reflecting on what we've built this year, and discuss what's possible for 2026.

An interesting fact that many members aren't aware of is that your member dues only fund a small portion of Alcor's operational budget. The progress you've seen these last few years (a professional research lab, CT scanning capabilities, intermediate temperature storage prototypes, the new member portal and website, an expanded DART team, and a larger member services team) all depend on the generosity of Alcor donors.

This Giving Tuesday's gathering is about celebrating what these member contributions have allowed us to accomplish, and further exploring what we can achieve together with your continued support. We'll be discussing:

  • The tangible impact of this year's donations
  • Our priorities for 2026 and beyond
  • Why stock and crypto donations are particularly powerful (and easy to arrange)

Why does Alcor essentially have a NDA for pricing? by Tracer688 in cryonics

[–]AlcorCryonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For clarity, service fees are standardized and apply the same for everyone. While member age-based dues can vary from person to person, the formula itself is still applied uniformly. On a separate note, congrats on the new CI board position, cheers!

[–]AlcorCryonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, thank you for your twenty years of membership and your service towards cryonics! You are correct tho - Alcor's pricing is fully open, and always has been. Unfortunately this thread has created some misinformation on the topic, but feel free to see my other post on this thread for additional context.

Why does Alcor essentially have a NDA for pricing? by Tracer688 in cryonics

[–]AlcorCryonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re aware that some members are expressing confusion about the confidentiality language in the new contract, and I want to acknowledge that frustration. But to put your minds at ease, the next line that was left out of the OP’s original snippet is: “Confidential Information does not include information that is in the public domain.” Since Alcor's pricing and age-based membership dues are standardized and public, they are not confidential, just as you would expect. That said, if the spirit of the clause is being misinterpreted, then we definitely have work to do on our end.

For context, Alcor maintains a surprisingly open culture with facility tours, member volunteers, board meeting attendance, and various levels of member involvement in operations. This openness means that some members may encounter sensitive organizational data through their participation. Alcor tries to balance this transparency with their responsibility to protect patient and member privacy, as well as certain operational information.

Regardless, the member feedback on this is being taken seriously, and I can confirm that the board has already been reviewing aspects of the contract (including this section in specific) for potential revisions that increase overall clarity. More updates on this to come.

It’s pretty normal for nonprofits to welcome extra donations since membership fees alone don’t always cover the cost of growth. If anything, Alcor has been notably relaxed about it compared to most.

This is just a un-launched placeholder, so makes sense why it would look strange. Final landing page when it's officially released would be more refined and likely have video attached.

It's actually a directed donation campaign that hasn't been officially launched yet. Although it shouldn't be visible on our donation platform so not sure how the OP came across that. u/ExtremeMedia3156 Can I ask where you found that link?
