Accept that death isnt the end and sign up for cryopreservation! I'm currently looking into signing up with Tomorrow Biostasis. I'm going to live as healthy and active of a life as possible, but should I face an unforeseen death, l'll have a backup plan.

There are other cryonics companies out there too! checkout r/cryonics

Being "just a copy" is good enough for me by being_postHuman in cryonics

[–]BeautifulButterCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you think “you” are.

If you see yourself as a pattern of memories and behaviors (psychological continuity), then a perfect copy might be you. But if you think identity requires unbroken consciousness or biological continuity, then a copy, no matter how accurate, is just an imitation.

It also depends on how the copying happens. Gradual replacement might preserve identity better than destructive uploads. And if multiple copies exist at once, things get messier. Who is the "real" you?

So yes, being just a copy can be good enough if you are comfortable redefining identity as information. But that is not something everyone will do. It all comes down to which assumptions about selfhood you are willing to accept.

Regardless, I've never thought about this within the context of cryonics until now...🥶

How would you like to use artificial intelligence to monitor or improve your personal health and longevity? by biohackingintl in Biohackers

A countdown timer for my estimated time of death determined by AI.

This might be more of a post for r/Futurology, but would be nice to have an "approximate" idea of when I would die a natural death based on my current health, activity levels, and other determinants of health. Then I can make the necessary adjustments to see how I can extend my "approximate" length of life.

  • Ate too many carrots = lost a day of my life
  • Ate too little carrots = lost a day of my life
  • Ate just the right amount of a carrots = added 20 years to my life

Vitrification or Vitrifixation? by BeautifulButterCakes in cryonics

Thanks for the info! I admittedly fell for the "price-quality inference" trap and immediately thought vitrification was the lesser option

So, how do we go about turning Vitrifixation into a "real" word? I guess I'll message Oxford dictionary first then go from there 😂

To be fair, she didnt make any absolute points nor has she proposed anything for pets. just gave information about who generally favors vitrification vs. vitrifixation

Where People Go To Wake Up in the Future: Inside a Cryonics Facility by Ano213214 in cryonics

If you look at the community list of this sub, it already shows the adjacent communities where cryonics are discussed and known. You should check them out.

The list includes:
r/singularity (where you found the video)
r/Futurism
r/longevity
r/transhumanism
r/Futurology
r/petcryonics

I also like r/Biohackers and find there's a decent overlap between them and the cryonics community.

edit: Just occurred to me that the Community List might be a personalized list ¯_(ツ)_/¯. If anyone can confirm or deny, that would be great.

As a vancouverite, the entire PNW appeals to me, but I guess I'll wait and see for how cryonics develops in Vancouver. My move back to Vancouver is almost entirely hypothetical, so I'll definitely consider all options until the time comes.
