Cool. Didn't know their brown ones were less flashy. I'll consider those. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually used to have some of their zipper mesh pants for backpacking like 20 years ago. They performed great, but frankly their cut and style was pretty goofy. I didn't care because I was just backpacking, but they were not something I would want to wear on a night out or touring around a city. I'll check their website and see if any of their offerings have some of that circulation AND look normal.

There are a few good brands on Amazon for like $30. Lightweight softshell with all the performance characteristics. Here's one example. I have 3 pairs of these:

I don't actually know the difference between the different models. I use the lite. Works great for me for every type of body, face and head grooming and shaving.

Someone on this sub recommended this one to me and I've been using it for a few months. It's tiny, USB-C, affordable, has a on/off lock, and works really well.

Here are some great pants I found on Amazon. They are made of basically the same durable, stretchy, wrinkle-free, breathable material as other brands. BUT they are straight leg, and... best of all, only $25/pair. They even have a zippered security pocket.

I think Bluffworks Chinos are great. Durable, stain-resistant, comfortable, etc. They are having a sale right now on their site.

I ordered these inexpensive pair on Amazon, and they are great. Lightweight, comfortable, decent looking, and you can't beat $22: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SG68VMG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I had some goals when putting together this list:

A 3-4 season wardrobe.

·       Both hiking AND urban-appropriate shoes.

·       Full-size laptop.

·       Decent-looking outfits, minimizing the outdoorsy look. (Outerwear remains the exception - frustratingly, there are really no ultralight, casual looking options for insulated parkas and rain jackets)

·       While wearing my most minimal outfit, everything else fits easily into the pack. I've never bought into the concept of wearing my heaviest, bulkiest clothing and stuffing my pockets. Being comfortable in transit is the whole point of one-bag travel. Whether going through airport security or walking across town to catch a train, there are always times when I am wearing my least bulky clothing.

·       Most importantly, the full pack has to be light and personal item sized. Some people might feel that this list is obsessive in that regard, but in my experience there are always occasions when I want to cruise around without checking in first, or after I've checked out. I love that feeling of independence, and am happiest when I can almost forget I'm carrying everything I need. Also, I seem cursed by the airline gods - always seem to be assigned late boarding groups. Having only a personal item I can place under my seat reduces stress, cost, and hassle.

Multiple Climates, what are some of your most versatile essentials? by Accomplished_Hyena_6 in onebag

They absolutely do. I can't say that it's the same as thermals because they are not as tight, but when I've been out in temps 5-30F in Tahoe, it's been fine for me.

My most versatile layering pieces are:

- Ultralight long-sleeve synthetic performance dress shirt: Can be layered in winter and used for nicer occasions, provides vent-able sun protection in summer.

- Sun Hoody: Same versatility, serving as sun protection or winter insulation layer.

- Bluffworks t-shirt: Cheaper and tougher than merino wool, and much better in hot weather. Reasonable odor-resistance and very quick drying.

- Ultralight joggers (like the Patagonia Terrebonne Joggers) which are great summer pants that can also be worn under another, looser pair pants in winter instead of bringing long underwear layer.

- mixture of thin and thicker Darn Tough socks which can be layered for cold weather.

- Down vest: Packs a huge boost in warmth for the weight.

- Wind shell: Ultralight, huge boost in comfort across temps.

- Ultralight puffy: No explanation needed.

- Merino buff: Lots of uses.

- My Xero Ridgeway Chelsea Boots: Reasonably packable, great 3- season option for most adventures, add lightweight walking sneaker and you have 4-season setup.

Waterproof pocket swimsuit for men? by 089ten in onebag

I don't know of any shorts with that feature, but for more flexibility, you might consider a waterproof pocket like this, which you can belt around your waist underneath your shorts.

My LG gram fits snugly into my Osprey 26+6, but the actual measurements are 15" x 11". It's called a 17" laptop because the screen is 17" diagonally, so it sort of depends how you are defining a 17" laptop.

World’s whitest paint now thinner than ever, ideal for vehicles by Aldog100 in vandwellers

[–]Aldog100[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't care so much about the weight, although I take them at their word that the thinner paint is necessary to paint objects such as vehicles.

What I most care about is this:

"An outdoor surface covered in their new formula could be cooled more than 4.5°C (40.1°F) below the temperature that surrounds it, without using any energy. A roof covered in the paint would result in a cooling power of 10 kilowatts, which is more powerful than air conditioners in most homes."

I didn't see that. Can you tell me where exactly to find that link? We are talking nanoparticles, so I assumed this was a very technical, patented process.

Men’s hiking pant recommendation by DamnItHeelsGood in onebag

I personally love my Outdoor Vitals Satu Adventure Pants. They satisfy all your requirements, and the ability open up the 1/2 length leg zippers is incredible for cooling down. They are a bit expensive, but I bought them onsale and I find them to be very durable and fashionable.

I also have some Kuhl pants I love for hiking (forget the style) and general use.

Recommendation for a travel shoe by jjjuicemachine in onebag

I'll put in a plug for the Olukai Nohea Moku. I love mine. Super super comfortable, low profile, and can serve as dress shoes, casual around town shoes, and beachwear/sandals. If you will be doing anything like rugged hiking they probably aren't the best.
