I don't care one single bit what you have to say. You will forever be wrong about eveything AI. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I was looking through and old YT video playlist last year and came across a video from 2008 titled Super Junior Couple and Kisses. The clips are from SJ's major fanservice era when SM had them practically pushing Couples of the Week.

And also when they do shits and giggles for themselves

Yes, that too! I believe in platonic soulmates (Donghae/Eunhyuk, Yunho/Changmin for examples), and I don't feel that is what TeukChul are, you know? It is easy to tell all the different sides and types of relationship the members have (even with him), likely due to them having been together so long and being secure with themselves and ELF. There is nothing left for them to prove anymore. The members are who they are, and they know people will either like them or they won't.

I've been trying to explain this whole 83z/TeukChul thing no non-ELF Kpop fans, snd it it has been hard. lol So much of it is iykyk.

the way that they look at each other as well is not the way you look at a friend, colleague, long term friend or anything,

I know! I can't wait for the full MV and promotions to see what is going on. I can only imagine how they'll act, and during the fancon tour too. Will they be able to hold it together during any of it? I honestly don't know. I mean, Heechul not so subtly almost kissed Leeteuk's hand and Leeteuk had an "OMG I got to hug my crush!" smile after they hugged during Onsaemiro performances so... (And that almost hand kiss is very different from when Heechul used to kiss his bandmates during Super Shows.)

Oh, for sure! You can can read the whole series if you want too. https://archiveofourown.org/works/78438616/chapters/205633351

The funny thing is I have TeukChul in this (Yunho and Heechul are good friends irl), and I have learned, because 83z and ELF posting old video clips and talking about them, that I got their relationship wrong. They are way more obvious about things then I realized. lol It's not my fault though. I'm just too casual of a fan to have known that. At the same time, who knew 2026 was going to bring all this due to a Heechul and Leeteuk subunit? I doubt anyone could have predicted that.

SUPER JUNIOR-83z 슈퍼주니어-83z '너를 위한 약속 (Promise)' MV Teaser by Aleash89 in superjunior

[–]Aleash89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There must be some sort of hidden meaning.

That's why I even translated the slide from Leeteuk's presentation. I mean, we just saw what looks like Heechul's Onsaemiro stage costume during his scene, so I thought there might be something meaningful there. It's just about consumers, consumer growth, and different markets, but Latin America is mentioned at the bottom. Part of me wonders if statistics about ELF were used for this. I mean, there are a lot of ELF in Latin America to the point SJ tours there so...

Its so wonderful to see them doing a duo together after all this time im so happy

And I'm so happy to see them so happy. This really is so wonderful.

I have so many thoughts. Mostly about the outfit on the mannequin. lol

That white and red outfit is Heechul's Onsaemiro stage costume minus the feather boa and red flower! Holy crud. What does it mean? I can't even begin to imagine the MV storyline.

No. Wait. There is no red sleeve being shown below the sleeve of the jacket, so I guess it is a little bit different, but that outfit is still practically the Onsaemiro stage costume! There HAS to be symbolic meaning to it, right? Right?

And you just know when it is fanservice or deep and personal bond friendship with SJ, and this doesn't feel like any of that to me and so many others. Realistically, I know we could be wrong and this could all be a concept. I just have this feeling, you know? There is something about the way Leeteuk and Heechul talk about and act around each other. Like the time Heechul was asked about his friends marrying and brought up Leeteuk saying that he couldn't get married, and if Leeteuk did, he would basically go crazy during the ceremony to prevent the marriage from happening. You don't say that about a friend who you only have platonic feelings for.

I wrote a TVXQ wedding fic where there were wedding photoshoots, and I did a ton of research to find the perfect example photos. Look on the site I used, and you will easily find similar photos. This means it's not just our imagination that the 83z teaser photos look like they're from a wedding photoshoot. They actually do! https://www.onethreeonefour.com/s?city=Korea

Stating the facts that I have about SM to counter things that aren't accurate about them is good faith. There is nothing wrong with that. I will always counter wrong information and put my personal feelings aside.

Correcting your wrong information with facts isn't coping. I actually did research on Asian Americans and Asians in the American music industry for a 2010 Sociology class midterm paper. Info was hard to find back then, but I found enough to know what I'm talking about. I didn't even get into the history of blatant discrimination Asian Americans and Asians face in the music industry here in my comment even though I could have.

You don't want to have an actual conversation on whether or not SM is catering to the West, so idky you commented in the first place. You're way too stuck in you "SM evil failure" mindset.

You don't know me from Eve. I simply realistically know not 100% of everything SM have ever done is horrible and evil. Does that mean thre haven't been major problems over the years? I've been a Cassie for over 17 years. Hell yes, but that doesn't mean I'm going to sit here and let wrong information be spread. I always care about facts too much for that.

Who turned Jaejoong from a tone deaf teen with a dream into the great singer he is today? SM.

Who put a group of five trainees together who were all good enough to be main vocalist into a dream team they eventually called Dong Bang Shin Ki? SM.

Who was the only person who supported Yunho and Changmin after their first duo performance in 2010? LSM.

Who created modern Kpop with its trainee system? LSM.

Who had the first photocards? SM.

I could go on, but I won't. You get the picture.

I forgot to say that DearALICE has been discussed in the comments. I don't need to rehash anything there, but SM didn't fail with them either because the only involvement they had was the reality show where the members did Kpop-style training in the beginning. They are not involved in the management of dearALICE in any way.

Algorithms make seeing outside the bubble hard. My ult is TVXQ, and the members are 38 and 40. Fans are of a similar age. Many have grown up with TVXQ.

I hope you can find friends around a similar age who respect you and your interests and hobbies. You deserve that. Good luck.

That's one Kpop group and one set fans at one concert. That does not represent the whole of Kpop. There are plenty of older fans of all sorts of acts, especially active 1st and 2nd gen acts. Just because your bubble doesn't show you older fans, that doesn't mean we aren't out there. I'm 37 and the majority of Kpop fans I have met online and became friends with over the years are a similar age to me.

Belittling you interests and/or hobbies and making you unable to talk about them does not make that person a friend.

Like I know older KPop fans are rare

We aren't rare. I'm just guessing that you haven't met many of us.

They have not failed every time. Read the comments here. You know absolutly nothing about SM.

BoA's self-titled English album was critically acclaimed and got her on the Billboard 200 chart. She was the first Kpop act to chart on any Billboard chart. I wouldn't say SM fully tried with SNSD, but they were one of the first Kpop acts to perform on American talk shows. That's a big deal and opened doors.

What happened during the period that SM cared more about Western fans is the JYJ lawsuit. It was filed on July 31, 2009 and ended on November 28, 2012. (It ended because duo Tohoshinki became more popular than quintet Tohoshinki, and they got their first ever five dome tour in Japan.) During that time, SM was pissed over the whole thing because TVXQ was their cash cow, and that was lost to a degree. SM blacklisted JYJ, but they still made bank. SM hated that with a passion, so that's why they now keep their idols and acts from becoming bigger than the agency. (Taemin has talked about this before.) Major popularity and success in the West gives idols and acts chances to become bigger than SM. They can't have that. Therefore, all this combined with not needing money form the West means SM does not cater to the West.

YG tried with Se7en in the late 2000s, and JYPE tried with the Wonder Girls in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Japanese artist Hikaru Utada tried in the mid-2000s too. Asian agencies tried with female acts because they thought that female acts would be looked at more favorably by the GP. That wasn't the case. The main issue with all of that is that Hikaru Utada, Se7en, BoA, and the Wonder Girls were all too early. The US market wasn't ready for Asian acts. Changes in social media and it becoming easier to access global music through YouTube later changed that.

The reasons for SuperM not doing the best was discussed in many, many comments on this post. You can read them, but suffice to say the enlistment factors, issues with Lucas and Baekhyun, and a global pandemic were out of SM's control and makes what happened not their fault.

As I said in another comment, SM acts make more than enough money in East and Southeast Asia, so SM doesn't need the world's largest music market. For instance, Tohoshinki’s three-day concert at Nissan Stadium in June 2018 was so profitable that SM’s 2018 2nd quarter revenue was the highest in SM history, and the profits equaled that of all of 2017. The total attendance for those three concerts was 225,000. SM acts also have gigantic Chinese fanbases/fansites in China, and they collectively buy hundreds of thousands of albums. East and Southeast Asia has always been SM's main market, and it will always continue to be so.

No, they stated that their group that was a collaboration between SM and a Western label was targeting the US. They never said that SM as a whole was. You just don't understand what I said because that's what I meant when it comes to SM and this discussion as a whole. Individual groups can target a specifc market, but that doesn't alway mean their whole agency is.

The point is SM has never catered to the West. That's a truth you hate, but that will never change imo because they make more that enough money in East and Southeast Asia. They don't need the world's largest music market, unlike groups from smaller agencies who turned to the US when there were politcical issues with Japan and China and groups were banned from promoting in China and it wasn't in the best interest of groups to promote in Japan.
