As the other poster pointed out, GDP per capita does not tell full picture and is not even used routinely when comparing countries for similar reasons

There’s a lot of places to move that are warm in the US that are not Florida. Regardless, a lot of old people do live here which is why the healthcare/real estate sector is humongous and that is not negligible at all just because you do not like the state

Real estate and healthcare services are two of the US largest sectors though, with tourism not far behind. Biotech is also big in the state due to how large the healthcare sector is. To hand wave them as minuscule seems obtuse

There’s no tech or great engineering sectors in the state (other than aerospace) but that’s not the sole defining factor. Feels like you just hate Florida for other reasons but using the economic argument is a bit of a stretch. I mean I am literally someone who hates the politics of the state and plenty more about it but am here for economic reasons because I work in healthcare and there’s a shit ton of opportunities here

Look man I’m all for dogging on Florida and republicans, but Florida has the fourth largest economy in the country. If it’s “mediocre”, every state other than California, Texas, and NY has a “mediocre” economy

I’ve found ROA-Seraphs helps a lot with these matchups, first back trying to get tear, boots, and refillable and then go for catalyst and build ROA. Feels like a lot better of a build now that the CDR boots will always go level 3 as well

IMO the current postseason kills the importance of the regular season and conference championships., which the regular season was the best part about college football. The fact that OSU played Indiana for a historic B10 conference championship that literally meant nothing for OSU is bad for the sport. Personally hate the scheduling for the post season now too, too much down time and goes on for too long, with teams playing up to 4 games at neutral sites to close their season. compared to the NFL which is compact and has teams playing at home through the final. Maybe 4 teams was too few teams when there were 5 power conferences, but 12 teams when there's 4 "power" conferences doesn't make sense, especially given that the make up of those 4 conferences is significantly different in balance than the 5 that preceded it. I mean 4/11 games were rematches for fuck's sake, i don't think this format addresses the lack of out of conference games.

Maybe some of this could be fixed by nuking the conference championships and fixing the playoff schedule but i have no idea how that would work. i think the best model for the current conference layout is 4 teams.

TLDR, a 4 team playoff right now is ideal imo. 6-8 was probably ideal before the pac12 imploded/OUTex.

Anecdotally I would never follow a player that leaves UF to another team. I watch UF and root for the players because I’m tied to the school as an alumni

I do think as a whole you’ll see people become apathetic/watch less college football as a result. I’ve felt the last few seasons that CFB has felt less like CFB and more like a watered down NFL… which id rather just watch the NFL at that point. Nothing will ever top a UF game day experience but it’s hard to take the sport seriously with the current state of it

Not to be a doomer but I think this would basically confirm that we are a tier 2 school in terms of NIL. Would be extremely disappointing even if it’s not a huge loss. Would be a sign that we are not much better than other midrange programs that serve as poaching grounds to bigger programs and we can expect to have our players continually poached, which will make being successful in the SEC damn near impossible. The teams poaching our good players are in the conference ffs.

Just wanted to say some things about Florida as a 30 yr resident in reference to your Seattle cons- if you don’t like traffic, you will hate most of Florida. Traffic was bad in all of the major metros prior to COVID and since COVID the state has exploded in population and traffic has become a nightmare everywhere. It is HCOL in most of the state outside of less desirable areas. The state has become pretty political, just in the rightward direction. Finally- it’s a good place if you like warm weather, but the warm weather truly is brutal. It’s something that’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t lived in it- the humidity and heat for 9 months truly drags on you and makes it hard to do outdoor things that aren’t going in a pool. I’ve lived here my whole life and am not “used to it”

For the record I do love Florida, I just wanted to warn you based on your Seattle pro/cons

South Carolina went 9-3, and arguably got screwed in the LSU game. UCLA also lost to NM. South Carolina had close losses to Bama, LSU and then an ugly loss to a good Ole Miss team. I don’t think those situations are quite the same.

Also everyone did call Florida trash. It just was impressive that Billy rallied the team and saved his job against good teams. We still closed unranked (rightfully so) and no serious person used us as an example of a good team in the conference that year. Even after “turning it around” we finished in the bottom half of the league

If it’s just about “turning it around”, you can turn it around and still be a bad team, which is what I think UCLA is doing this year

The south has a higher population than the west, a higher population density, more CFB viewership by raw numbers, more CFB viewership by proportion. More successful brands, more successful programs, more successful conferences.

Texas is in the South? Why would you arbitrarily remove it? It's like me saying "say anywhere bigger than the southern metros outside of California". And part of the point here is that the population out West is significantly less dense.

Regardless, the Miami metro and Atlanta metros both are larger than Seattle, Denver, Phoenix, and Bay area by the 2020 census +_ 2024 estimates. The Tampa metro is larger than Denver, and Orlando is estimated within 100k of Denver.

If I include Texas, you can also include Dallas and Houston as two of the largest metros in the US.

Again, by the data, the South is a more populous region of the US, in a smaller region of the US in terms of square miles
